Essentially all five Wan- derer models are designed for the sheltered inshore environment, but the 5.8m flagship of the fleet has the proven pedigree and struc- tural integrity to extend its versatility to fishing open offshore waters. The combination of a wide 2.44m beam and the ability to replace the com- fortable bow-rider cushions with a casting platform has made the 5.8m Wanderer a popular choice with boat- ing families who prefer offshore fishing when the weather is right. The model’s excellent sea-handling character has been tried and improved over many hours of testing and research in both calm and rough conditions, with the features of the Sure Trac and ultimate-edge transom providing a calm- ing effect in a lumpy sea- way. The 5.8m Wanderer’s hull weight of 625kg, complemented with 16 floor ribs, presents a super- stiff underbody. This, combined with a sea-calming fore-peak and spray-deflecting chine, as- sists to deliver a better- than-average performance. There was plenty of power from the 130hp engine to suggest the 5.8m Wanderer could also add skiing and wake-boarding to the list of aquatic activi- ties.
