Mere teachings and commands ofdos and don'ts do not form thefoundation of good moral charac-ter in a society, because only thesethings are not sufficient for devel-oping good qualities in human na-ture. The teachings of good con-duct to be fruitful, requires long
training and constant watchful-ness.
The training cannot be on the rightlines if the example is not shown
before the society, because a per-son having a bad moral charactercannot leave a good impression onhis surroundings.
The best training can be expectedonly from such a man whose per-sonality, by the force of his moral-ity, would create a sense of admi-ration in the society. The worldwould spontaneously feel the urge
to follow his footsteps.
For nourishing more and more ex-cellent character among his follow-ers it is necessary that the leadermust possess higher and noblercharacter and attributes than hisfollowers.
The holy Prophet himself wasthe best example of good moralcharacter. Before advising his fol-lowers to adopt a moral life by giv-ing sermons and counsels, he wassowing the seeds of moralityamong his followers by actuallythat kind of life.
Some teachings of the HolyProphet and extracts from his life
regarding morality are given in thisedition.

MUSAB BIN UMAIR was a very handsomeyoung man. He was the son of Umair, a wealthyperson. He brought up his son in quite a luxuri-ous fashion. Musab enjoyed the best of food, fin-est dresses and the best perfumes. Whenever Mu-sab passed through the streets, dressed in costlyclothes and profusely perfumed, the sweet smellscented the atmosphere all around and the peoplegazed at him with amazement and appreciation. His beauty and charm was the talk of the town.
Due to his charming personality and being alovely son of wealthy parents, everyoneyoungor oldhad a great regard for him. When he
embraced Islam he was given a respectableplace in Muslim society . But it was not due tohis beauty, charm, good dress or wealth, butdue to his piety and fear of God.
Musab accepted Islam at a time when life had been made unbearable for Muslims. When heembraced Islam he was put severe hardships andtorture. All the affection of his mother vanished. All the love and care of his father changed intoanger and grief. He was turned out of his home. The beauty and charm of his person faded. His
parents admonished him. But, when they knewthat he was firm, they tied him with ropes andthrew him in a dark cell. He was kept in prisonfor a long time, but his belief in Islam was sofirm that the torment of prison did not change hismind. He was no more inclined towards costlycosmetics and perfumes. He sacrificed every-thing and remained steadfast and devoted him-self whole-heartedly to serve the noble cause ofIslam.
During the course of time, many people of Madi-na had accepted Islam. They requested the HolyProphet to send them a preacher for teachingthem the fundamentals of Islam. The HolyProphet selected Musab for this purpose. Onreaching Madina, Musab began to perform theduty entrusted to him. He went from door to doorto convey to the people the message of Islam.Initially he talked to each person in terms whichthe person could understand, and then presentedto him the message of Islam at the right moment. He recited before the people selected verses of
the Holy Quran which had a profound effect ontheir minds. He had a natural gift of soft speechand people who approached him instantly be-came his friends...One day Musab was explaining
some Islamic principles to a group of Mus-lims. On seeing this an elite of Madina sentUsaid to turn Musab out of there, as he was
preaching Islam and turned many personsaway from their ancestral faith. Usaid at oncetook his spear and went to Musab and said fu-riously: Who has called you here to lead thepeople astray? If your lives are dear to you, goaway from this place at once. To this Musabreplied very gently, Please sit down and lis-ten to us calmly. If you like what we say, thenyou may accept it otherwise we shall leavethis place. Usaid stuck his spear in theground and sat down to listen to what Musab
had to say. Musab recited some verses of theHoly Quran. He explained to the audience theidentity of Allah as the Creator, the Masterand the Merciful, in such an impressive man-ner that in a short time Usaid was filled withthe light of faith. Soon after all the inhabitantsof Madina except a few, embraced Islam.
Musab was also a brave soldier, a fearlesswarrior and an able general. It was becauseof his bravery that the Holy Prophet had en-trusted him with the honour of carrying thebanner of war, in the battle of Badr andUhud. In the battle of Uhud, the nonbelieversattacked the Muslims from the rear and thusdisorganized the Muslim army. At that criticaltime Musab kept the Islamic banner flyinghigh. He attacked the forces of the enemy allalone. He could not think of acting against theorder of the Prophet and making a retreat. Atthat time many nonbelievers attacked theMuslim warrior simultaneously and surround-ed him. There were countless attacks on him
by swords and spears. At last he fell a martyr.
After the battle, the Holy Prophet addressedthe body of Musab and said; When I sawyou for the first time in Makkah there was nobody more handsome and well-dressed thanyou. But I see you today your hair uncombedand only a sheet of cloth covers your body.Musab had only a sheet of cloth over his body; if the head was covered the feet werebare and when the feet were covered the headwas left bare. At last his head was coveredwith the shroud cloth and the feet were cov-ered with grass.Such was the shroud of Mu-sab bin Umair the great martyr.

The history of the purpose of ed-
ucation is as old as the history of
the human civilization. But the
system of education has been
changing through ages.
Knowing the purpose of educa-
tion is very important in systema-
tizing the process of education.
Without it education would be-
come a directionless journey.
The purpose of life is to please
our Creator and live being obedi-
ent to Him. When we understand
this purpose of life, then educa-
tion on this lines will help us toachieve the ultimate purpose of
life.

Education - the process of acquir-
ing knowledge - begins when we
are born and continues throughout
life. For instance, learning to speak
is a basic skill we acquire at an ear-
ly age by imitating and repeating
the sounds produced by the family
members. As we grow older, vari-
ous activities help in increasing our
knowledge. Schools also help in
recognizing and nourishing the tal-
ents and skills that one has and
guide to use to benefit ourselves
and the society on the whole.
Education provides light and
guides towards success.
An ideal education system
Which not only provides Information but also cre-ates Human Beings.
Which not only enables man to earn money but al-so keeps him active to serve humanity.
Which fulfills the needs of the societynot of themarket.
Where the education is not sold as a Commoditybut provided easily to all citizens as a Value.
Which makes the students curious to know theTruth of Life.
And the most important is that
Which leads him towards his Creator.
EDUCATION
The purpose oflife plays a decisive
and important rolein determining
system of education

Education is the process

The act or process of im-

T
he aspect of life regarding character and
morality of the holy Prophet isundoubtedly more prominent than all other re-formers of the world.
He was a model of his own teachings. What hesaid before the general public he acted upon.He was the true embodiment of virtues andmoral conduct which he preached.
One of the most important aspect ofones character is that one
should do an act so
constantly that it be-comes ones secondnature. The HolyProphet used to ob-serve this principle inall his actions. He said: The acts most
pleasing to Allah arethose which are donecontinuously.
An account from hislife displaying his un-paralleled character:
One disbeliever wom-an hated the Prophet
for his message. TheProphet walked down the street
where she lived. She decided that she was go-ing to give him trouble. The woman swept hereveryday. She started saving all the garbage, and she threw it on the Prophet whenever he
passed her house. Doing this made her feelvery good. Now I have taken revenge for ouridols, she thought.
But she expected Muhammad( )tobecomeangry at what she did. Perhaps he will shoutat me, she thought, then people will see Mu-hammad( )getting mad. That will be a greatthing.
However when she threw the garbage on theProphet, he did not say anything and he justcontinued on his way.
The disbelievers thought that the Prophet was
too afraid to shout at the woman. They did
not realize that he was too gentle to do that. The Prophet continued to walk down thesame street every day. He did not want to dis-appoint the woman. He hoped that Allahwould guide her to the truth.
One day as the Prophet walked down thestreet, there was no garbage. The Prophet wassurprised. He asked the people whathad happened to the woman. She is vey sick.,
they told him. Shecant get up to do herown work.
The Prophet was sadto hear this. Since itwas his habit to visitthe sick and pray forthe health, he went tothe womans houseright away. Peopletold her that theProphet had come tovisit her. He hascome to show his an-ger, she thought, today Im sick, and Icant talk back to him. butshe decided to let him come in.
The Prophet entered her house. He looked atthe woman kindly. He spoke to her gentlyand asked how she was. Then he prayed to
Allah that she might get well.
The woman was ashamed of what she haddone to the Prophet. Now she realized that hewas not an ordinary person. Anyone else inhis situation would certainly have been happyabout her sickness. But the Prophet was sokind that it made him sad to see her suffer.
She now understood that Muhammad( )wasAllahs Prophet. She begged him to forgiveher, and she did so with great kindness. The
woman who had been Prophets enemy andwho had thrown garbage on him day afterday now accepted Islam!

it.(10) Pass a fine thread through
this hole and tie a knot in itsend.
(11) Tie the other end of thethread to the frame so thatthe needle hangs centrallyover the compass card. Theneedle should now turn to

points on the compass card.
Nearby iron or steel objects will
tend to attract the compass nee-dle, causing an error called devi-ation. To avoid this error, alwaysensure that you are well awayfrom metal objects when usingthe compass for direction find-ing.
Because iron and steel objectsdeflect the needle, the compasscan be used to find such objects
buried under the ground.
Centuries ago, ships used primitivecompasses. A magnetized needle,
placed on a float in a bowl of water, pointed approximately north. Theinstructions below explain how tomake such a compass and how to
build an improved version with asuspended needle. You can also usethe second type to locate iron orsteel objects buried in the ground.
Construction:(1) Get a metallic needle or cut a
strip(8x80mm) metal from a tincan.
(2) Magnetize the needle by re- peatedly stroking it, in one di-rection only , with one pole ofa strong magnet.
(3) Cut a thin disk of cork
(wooden piece).
(4) Float the cork disk onwater in a plastic bowl.Don not use a steel bowl asthis will prevent the com-
pass from working proper-ly. Place the needle on thecork. The cork should nowturn slowly until the needle
points approximately, in anorth-south direction.
(5) When you have foundwhich end of the needle-
points northward, paint itred for identification.
(6) Now use the sameneedle to make a moreelaborate compass. First, make a compass card, asshown in the diagram, from a cardboard.
