FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK�

Ever since we were excommunicated in December 2005, we have been quite ‘lonely’ in the sense that there are very few parishes that are like ours - Catholic, but not Roman. Yes, we have heard of, and even befriended some great folks from other independent Catholic groups, but since most of them are much smaller in size and rely on a rented worship space, I have felt like – at the end of the day – St. Stanislaus remains one of a kind. This is why my two experiences this past summer were such a pleasant and welcome surprise: I have discovered and visited two vibrant independent Catholic parishes with ‘brick and mortar’ churches within a few hours drive from St. Louis! On June 1st I traveled to Tulsa, Oklahoma to participate in the events commemorating the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre. I had the honor of being invited by the good people of St. Jerome Parish – located just a few blocks away from the ‘Black Wallstreet’ district – to join them in remembering the victims of those tragic events 100 years ago. We prayed in front of the newly dedicated statue of Our Lady of the Heights to lead all of God’s people to racial justice and reconciliation. I was impressed with their liturgy, hospitality, and community engagement. They have owned their church building for almost two decades now and clearly take great pride in it. Their new pastor, Fr. Joshua M. Shawnee, has introduced me to his friend, newly ordained Fr. Taylor Tracy, who at that point was organizing a brand new independent Catholic parish in Kansas City, Missouri. The three of us hit it off and became good priest-friends based on our shared values and dedication to parish ministry. The Catholic people on the West side of Missouri who support an inclusive, but truly Catholic church have a new option now too. On September 12th I participated in the Launch celebration of Christ the King independent Catholic parish in Kansas City and visited their just purchased church near the downtown area. The joy and vigor of this newly established community is truly contagious and I was so glad to be there to witness it, and to congratulate Fr. Taylor Tracy on the official inauguration of this brand new parish. Believe it or not, I even met a wonderful Polish lady who is one of the founding members of Christ the King parish! If you ever find yourself in Tulsa, OK or Kansas City, MO on the weekend – please do not hesitate to visit one of these two independent Catholic parishes. They share our vision of a better, more inclusive and Christ-like Catholicism, and will welcome you with joy in their midst! On a personal level, it is such delight to connect with two Catholic priests who are on the same page with me theologically, and who know first hand the joys and challenges of leading a congregation with a brick-and-mortar church home. It feels like we are not ”all alone” in this independent Catholic adventure anymore and that we can support, learn from, and accompany each other on this journey. Maybe we are not in the same diocese, or some other legally or financially intermingled structure, but we truly have ”sister parishes” that share the same Catholic faith while living it out in unabashedly inclusive way. Let us pray that what starts as three sister communities will inspire others to join our revival of an ancient faith in the modern world.

Od czasu naszej ekskomuniki w grudniu 2005 r. jesteśmy nieco samotni - w takim sensie, że niewiele jest parafi jak nasza: katolickich ale nie rzymskich. Tak, to prawda że poznaliśmy i nawet zaprzyjaźniliśmy się z ludźmi z różnych niezależnych wspólnot katolickich, ale jako że ogromna ich większość jest bardzo mała i opiera się na wynajmowaniu kościółów czy kaplic na kilka godzin w tygodniu, czułem że – koniec końców – Św. Stanisław jest czymś jedynym w swoim rodzaju. I dlatego właśnie byłem bardzo mile zaskoczony dwoma wydarzeniami tego lata: odkryłem i odwiedziłem dwie, pełne życia niezależne parafie katolickie z własnymi budynkami kościelnymi, oddalonych zaledwie o kilka godzin jazdy od St. Louis! 1 czerwca wybrałem się do Tulsa w stanie Oklahoma by wziąć udział w wydarzeniach upamiętniających rozruchy na tle rasowym z 1921 r. Miałem zaszczyt być zaproszonym przez parafię św. Hieronima – znajdującą się zaledwie kilka przecznic od dzielnicy „Czarna Wallstreet” – do uczestnictwa w upamiętnianiu ofiar tych tragicznych wydarzeń sprzed 100 lat. Modliliśmy się przed nowo poświęconą figurą Matki Bożej, prosząc by pomagała doprowadzić cały lud Boży do rasowej sprawiedliwości i pojednania. Byłem pod wrażeniem ich liturgii, gościnności i zaangażowania w sprawy ich osiedla. Od prawie dwóch dekad posiadają oni własny kościół i wyraźnie są z niego bardzo dumni. Ich nowy proboszcz, ks. Joshua M. Shawnee, przedstawił mnie swojemu przyjacielowi, świeżo wyświęconemu ks. Taylor Tracy, który w tamtym czasie organizował zupełnie nową niezależną parafię katolicką w Kansas City. Od razu zawiązała się między nami trzema spontaniczna, kapłańska przyjaźń oparta o wspólne wartości i oddanie posłudze parafialnej. Katolicy z zachodniej części naszego stanu Missouri, którzy poszukują Kościoła bardziej otwartego i inkluzywnego mają od niedawna nową opcję. 12 września brałem udział w uroczystej inauguracji niezależnej katolickiej parafii Chrystusa Króla i odwiedziłem ich Katolickiej w właśnie zakupiony kościół w pobliżu centrum miasta. Radość i wigor tej nowo powstałej wspólnoty rzuca się w oczy i cieszę się, że mogłem tego doświadczyć i pogratulować ks. Taylor Tracy tak ważnego osiągnięcia. Wyobraźcie sobie, że spotkałem tam nawet wspaniałą polkę, która jest jednym z założycieli tej nowej parafii Chrystusa Parafia Króla! Jeśli w jakiś weekend znajdziesz się kiedyś w Tulsa, OK lub Kansas City, MO – to szczerz polecam odwiedzenie jednej z dwóch niezależnych parafii katolickich. Podzieląją oni w pełni naszą wizję lepszego, bardziej otwartego katolicyzmu, i z pewnością radośnie was przywitają w swoim gronie! Na płaszczyźnie osobistej przynam się, że bardzo się cieszę z tej nowej przyjaźni z dwoma katolickimi kapłanami, którzy mają tak same jak ja spojrzenie na teologię i pastoralną pracę w parafiach z własnym budynkiem kościelnym. Chyba nie jesteśmy już więcej zupełnie wyjątkowi i "jedyni w swoim rodzaju” i w tej przygodzie niezależnego katolicyzmu możemy liczyć na wsparcie, rady, i wzajemne towarzystwo. Nie tworzymy jeszcze diecezji, ani jakiejś innej prawo-finansowej struktury, z radością możemy powiedzieć że mamy "siostrzane parafie", które tak jak my próbują żyć katolicką wiarą katolicką otwartą na każdego bez wyjątku człowieka. Mam nadzieję, że to, co zaczyna się jako trzy siostrzane wspólnoty zainspiruje innych do próby życia starożytną katolicką wiarą w świeży sposób, odpowiadający na wyzwania XXI wieku. Ks. Desde que nuestra iglesia fue excomulgada en diciembre de 2005, nos hemos mantenido como una de las pocas parroquias católicas, pero no romanas. Hemos oído hablar e incluso hemos hecho amistad con personas importantes de otros grupos católicos independientes, pero dado que la mayoría de ellos son mucho más pequeños y dependen de espacios rentados, nuestra iglesia de San Stanislao sigue siendo única. Esta es la razón por la que mis dos experiencias el verano pasado fueron una sorpresa tan agradable y bienvenida: ¡descubrí y visité dos vibrantes parroquias católicas independientes a unas pocas horas de St. Louis! El 1 de junio viajé a Tulsa, Oklahoma para participar en los eventos en conmemoración de la masacre de la carrera de Tulsa de 1921. Tuve el honor de ser invitado a unirme a nuestros buenos amigos de la parroquia San Jerónimo, ubicada a pocas cuadras del distrito 'Black Wallstreet', para recordar a las víctimas de esos trágicos eventos hace 100 años. Oramos frente a la estatua recién dedicada de Nuestra Señora de las Alturas para llevar a todo el pueblo de Dios a la justicia racial y la reconciliación. Me impresionó su liturgia, hospitalidad y participación comunitaria. Han sido propietarios del edificio de su iglesia durante casi dos décadas y claramente se enorgullecen de ello. Su nuevo pastor, el P. Joshua M. Shawnee, me presentó a su amigo, el recién ordenado P. Taylor Tracy, quien en ese momento estaba organizando una nueva parroquia católica independiente en Kansas City, Missouri. Los tres sacerdotes nos hicimos buenos amigos basados en nuestros valores compartidos y dedicación al ministerio parroquial. Comunidades católicas en el lado oeste de Missouri que apoyan una iglesia inclusiva, ahora también tienen nuevas opciones. El 12 de septiembre participé en la celebración de la inauguración de la parroquia católica independiente de Cristo Rey en Kansas City y visité su iglesia cuyo edificio fue recién comprado cerca del centro de la ciudad. Tal vez no estemos en la misma diócesis, o en alguna otra estructura entremezclada legal o financieramente, pero realmente tenemos "parroquias hermanas" que comparten la misma fe católica de u modo abiertamente inclusivo. Oremos para que lo que comienza como tres comunidades hermanas inspire a otros a unirse para darle vitalidad a una fe antigua en el mundo moderno.

WEDNESDAYS OF NOVEMBER: MASSES FOR DECEASED

The month of November is a special time when we remember our deceased family members and friends. One of the ways to express our love for them is to offer a Holy Mass for his or her intention. In our Parish there will be a series of five Masses in November offered for the souls of those departed whose names you wish to provide us: two Masses on November 1st, and then every Wednesday in November. If you would like to add the names of the deceased, please pick up a special envelope at the side entrance to the church and return it with the names of your beloved departed. Alternatively, you can mail us the list of the deceased with a check marked “November Masses” on the Memo line.

All Saturdays: Calling All Gardeners We are in desperate need of volunteers on Saturdays between the hours of 9:00am-12:00pm to help weed, trim and plant in the beds around our campus. All levels of expertise are needed. Bring garden gloves, hand tools, spades, shovels, trimmers, etc. Remember in this heat to bring water and stay hydrated! October 2: Blessing of the Animals The Blessing of animals is conducted in remembrance of St. Francis of Assisi’s love for all God’s creatures. Wednesdays in November: Masses for Deceased Every Wednesday in November, at 11:30am we will be offering a special Mass for our deceased family members, parishioners, and friends. These Masses are at the side altar or Our Lady of Czestochowa.

October 31: “Trunk or Treat” On the Sunday of “All Hallows Eve” (Vigil of All Saints) we invite all our young friends, ages 17 and younger, to join us for a joyful “Trunk or Treat” celebration from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. (between the Masses). Our adult members and friends are encouraged to come with trunks full of goodies and treat our youngsters with sweet generosity!

November 2: Dia de los Muertos - Day of the Dead We are adding a little ‘Latin flavor’ to our celebration of the All Souls Day! On November 2nd, at 6:00pm we will hold a special, Spanish-English Mass for All the Faithful Departed with the addition of a traditional ‘altar’ (ofrendas) with photos and memorabilia of the departed members of our families. We encourage all our parishioners to participate in this ancient, Mexican tradition alongside our Spanish speaking friends.

ŚWIĘTY MIESIĄCA�

“Open wide the doors to Christ,” urged John Paul II during the homily at the Mass when he was installed as pope in 1978. Born in Wadowice, Poland, Karol Jozef Wojtyła had lost his mother, father and older brother before his 21st birthday. Karol’s promising academic career at Kraków’s Jagiellonian University was cut short by the outbreak of World War II. While working in a quarry and a chemical factory, he enrolled in an “underground” seminary in Kraków. Ordained in 1946, he was immediately sent to Rome where he earned a doctorate in theology. Back in Poland, a short assignment as assistant pastor in a rural parish preceded his very fruitful chaplaincy for university students. Soon he earned a doctorate in philosophy and began teaching that subject at the Catholic University of Lublin. Communist officials allowed him to be appointed auxiliary bishop of Kraków in 1958, considering him a relatively harmless intellectual. They could not have been more wrong! He attended all four sessions of Vatican II and contributed especially to its Pastoral Constitution

on the Church in the Modern World. Appointed as archbishop of Kraków in 1964, he was named a cardinal three years later. On September 26, 1969 Cardinal Karol Wojtyła visited St. Stanislaus church in St. Louis. Elected pope in October 1978, he took the name of his short-lived, immediate predecessor. Pope John Paul II was the first non-Italian pope in 455 years. In time, he made pastoral visits to 124 countries, including several with small Christian populations. His 1979 visit to Poland encouraged the growth of the Solidarity movement there and the collapse of communism in central and eastern Europe 10 years later. He promoted ecumenical and interfaith initiatives, especially the 1986 Day of Prayer for World Peace in Assisi. He was the first pope since St. Peter to visit a Jewish synagogue and the Western Wall in Jerusalem. He improved Catholic-Muslim relations and in 2001, as the first pope ever, he visited and prayed in a mosque in Damascus, Syria. The Great Jubilee of the Year 2000, a key event in John Paul’s ministry, was marked by special celebrations in Rome and elsewhere for Catholics and other Christians. He began World Youth Day and traveled to several countries for those celebrations. He very much wanted to visit China and the Soviet Union but the governments in those countries prevented that. One of the most well-remembered photos of his pontificate was his one-on-one conversation in 1983 with Mehmet Ali Agca, who had attempted to assassinate him two years earlier. In the last years of his life, he suffered from Parkinson’s disease and was forced to cut back on some of his activities. He died April 2, 2005 on the eve of the Divine Mercy Sunday. Pope Francis canonized John Paul II on April 27, 2014 - Divine Mercy Sunday. His feast day is October 22.

“Otwórzcie szeroko drzwi Chrystusowi” - tak wołał donośnym głosem Jan Paweł II podczas swojej pierwszej homilii jako Papież w 1978 r. Urodzony w Wadowicach Karol Józef Wojtyła stracił matkę, ojca oraz starszego brata przed ukończeniem 21 roku życia. Jego dobrze zapowiadające się studia aktorskie zostały gwałtownie przerwane przez wybuch II Wojny Światowej. Pracując w kamieniołomach i potem w fabryce chemicznej, Karol wstąpił również do “podziemnego” seminarium w Krakowie. Święcenie kapłańskie przyjął w 1946 r. i natychmiast został wysłany na dalsze studia do Rzymu, gdzie uzyskał doktorat z teologii. Po powrocie do Polski pracował krótko jako wikary na wiejskiej parafii, a później jako duszpasterz akademicki. Po uzyskaniu doktoratu z filozofii rozpoczął wykłady na Katolickim Uniwersytecie Lubelskim. Komunistyczni urzędnicy zgodzili się na jego konsekrację na biskupa pomocniczego w Krakowie, uważając go za niegroźnego intelektualistę. Jak bardzo się pomylili! Jako młody biskup Wojtyła uczestniczył we wszystkich czterech sesjach Soboru Watykańskiego II i miał swój szczególny wkład w powstanie Konstytucji Pastoralnej o Kościele w Świecie

Współczesnym “Gaudium et Spes.” W 1964 roku został Arcybiskupem Krakowa i cztery lata później kardynałem. 26 września 1969 r. kardynał Karol Wojtyła owiedził nasz kościół. W październiku 1978 r. został wybrany papieżem i przyjął imię swojego bezpośredniego poprzednika. Jan Paweł II był pierwszym papieżem spoza Włoch od 455 lat. W czasie licznych duszpaterskich wizyt odwiedził 124 kraje, w tym kilka z bardzo małą populacją chrześcijan. Podczas podróży do Polski w 1979 r. zachęcał do życia w “solidarności” i przyczynił się do rozwoju ruchu “Solidarności”, który 10 lat później doprowadził do obalenia komunizmu i zapoczątkował demokratyczne przemiany w Europie Wschodniej. Jan Paweł II był wielkim promotorem ekumenizmu i dialogu międzyreligijnego, co najlepiej objawiło się w 1986 r. w trakcie Światowego Dnia

Modlitwy o Pokój w Asyżu. Jako pierwszy papież od czasów Św. Piotra odwiedził żydowską synagogę i modlił się przy Ścianie Płaczu w Jerozolimie, doprowadził także do nawiązania stosunków dyplomatycznych Watykanu z Izraelem. Pracował nad poprawą stosunków Katolicko-Muzułmańskich, a w 2001 r jako pierwszy papież w historii modlił się w meczecie w Damaszku w Syrii. To on rozpoczął obchodzenie Światowego Dnia Młodzieży. Zawsze pragnął odwiedzić Chiny oraz Rosję, czego niestety nie udało mu się osiągnąć. Jedną z najbardziej pamiętnych fotografii pontyfikatu Jana Pawła II to ta z jego wizyty w 1983 r. twarzą w twarz Ali Agcą, zamachowcem który próbował go zabić dwa lata wcześniej. W ostatnich latach życia cierpiał na chorobę Parkinsona, co ograniczyło nieco jego apostolską aktywność. Jan Paweł II zmarł 2 kwietnia 2005 r. Papież Franciszek kanonizował go 27 kwietnia 2014 roku w święto Bożego Miłosierdzia. Jego Święto obchodzi się 22 października.

Under the direction of our new Polish Heritage Center manager, Allen Irby, new alarm codes have been installed for the building. To further security measures, all the locks to the building are being updated and changed. Additionally, the Board approved funds for the badly needed lighting fixes and upgrades throughout the Polish Heritage Center.

Due to the more stable COVID19 cases locally, we expect that we will once again invite our parishioners and visitors for coffee and doughnuts after Sunday Masses, starting on October 3rd.

After a two month probationary period, we welcome our new caretaker/sexton, Camillo Lopez, as a permanent employee of St. Stanislaus Corporation.

Pod kierunkiem Allan’a Irby, nowego menedżera Domu Dziedzictwa Polskiego, zainstalowane zostały nowe kody alarmowe w budynku PHC. W celu poprawy bezpieczeństwa, wymieniane są również wszystkie zamki w Domu Dziedzictwa Polskiego. Co więcej, rada dyrektorów zatwierdziła wydatek na potrzebne naprawy i ulepszenia systemu oświetlenia w tym ważnym dla nas budynku.

Ze względu na stopniowe stabilizowanie się sytacji pandemicznej w naszym rejonie, mamy nadzieję że będziemy mogli już wkrótce zaprosić wszystkich parafian oraz gości do Domu Dziezictwa Polskiego na kawę i ciatka po niedzielnych Mszach Świętych.
