october 2013 newsletter - meriden public library
TRANSCRIPT
Remember when you listened, sang, and danced to the great old tunes of the 1920's through
1940's? Has it been a while? Come to the Meriden Public Library on Friday, October 4 at
2:00 pm and let the Survivors Swing Band revive those memories for you. A 7-piece professional jazz band, based in Connecticut, the Survivors Swing Band plays the
classic melodies from an era gone by--hot tunes and soothing ballads of the Swing Era-- plus
many of the wonderful melodies from the two decades that followed. The "Big Bands" played
this music with a high degree of rigid orchestration. The Survivors render it with a greater
tilt towards improvisation, thus giving each pass at a tune somewhat of a new flavor while still
keeping true to the original melodies. Funding for this program is provided by the Meriden
Foundation and the Friends of the Meriden Public Library.
This program is free and all are welcome.

plain-talk personal accounts
of premonitions and psychic
dreams, and encounters with
spirits of family, friends, and
even pets returning from the

Library Directors Report: A suggestion box in the lobby revealed that our library
patrons really appreciate the varied programs offered here. Some complained that they
didn’t get the newsletter soon enough to learn about early programs in the month. Karen
suggested the newsletters also include a box promoting the next month’s
upcoming programs. In addition the newsletter editors will work on getting the combined
newsletter out earlier.
