Inside the National Office

I have been asked many times over the past three years, “just where is the National Office?”.

The Phi Delta Chi National Office is located in the offices of my pharmacy, Specialty Medicine Compounding Pharmacy. Our most recent remodel made space available for my office, Becky’s office as well as a shipping station. Becky’s office is also where we keep most of the commonly ordered

jewelry and supplies. The shipping station also houses the Pitney Bowes (envelope folder, stuffer and sealer) machine. From our offices inside my pharmacy we are able to fulfill most orders and do all of the mailings.

When you call the National Office you are actually calling an extension of my pharmacy’s phone system. In fact, if

you are placed on hold, you will hear my pharmacy’s on hold messaging service.

All of the warehoused items, like old Communicators and supplies for LDS and Grand Council, reside in my basement. Besides the PDC work, our offices handle all of the PLEI mailings and the phone system also receives many of the PLEI phone calls.

COLLEGIATE AFFAIRS GOALS 2011-2013

I wanted to take the time to announce the goals I have set for myself and the office of GVPCA. I made a few promises in my candidacy at Grand Council that I would like to reiterate as well. I feel it is important that you know what my team of RDCAs and I are working on and welcome your ideas and thoughts along the way.

Collegiate Expansion

We have seen our organization blossom with new chapters and new life come to some of our oldest Phi Dex chapters. With this growth comes great responsibility. The GVPCA must ensure each new chapter is chartered when ready and able to function on its own and continues to strengthen itself with each new pledge class. I am taking three vital steps to ensure that solid foundations are being laid and continued fostering is taking place after a new chapter joins the Brotherhood.

STEP 1 Formalize and Compile an All-Inclusive Chapter Chartering Process

While serving as the NERDCA, I was charged with completing a “how-to” Chapter Chartering document to assist colonies and their coordinators in the founding process with a promise of completion by February 2012. In my new position, I recognize the importance of it’s completion and have set an earlier deadline. I will have the guide completed and ready for review by the Policy and Procedures Committee three months ahead of schedule! Once in place, we will have an all-inclusive resource to refer to and use to educate

future Collegiate Affairs Officers on the Chapter Chartering Process.

STEP 2 Increase Communication with New Chapters

During my time as GVPCA, I have made it a point to ensure continued personal follow-up with each new chapter. Whether in person or by phone, I feel that the Collegiate Affairs Team must go over basic operations, the AA Program, and our sacred Ritual with our new chapters. I will be re-introducing the Follow-up Program to the Collegiate Affairs Team at our Strategic Planning Retreat later this month. The Program will be back on track this December and will be integrated into the Chapter Chartering document as the final step in the process.

STEP 3 Select a Brother to Help Oversee Expansion

I will be appointing a Director of Collegiate Expansion and hope to introduce that Brother to you in the December E-Communicator. I am currently interviewing knowledgeable candidates for the position and developing a complete job description should any future GVPCA wish to utilize this additional help. Some of this Brother’s main responsibilities will be to assist me and the Regional Directors with the follow-up for each of the recently founded gamma chapters, closely monitor and communicate with any current colony coordinators as they work through the new Chapter Chartering Process, and conduct thorough information gathering sessions with colleges of pharmacy who are

interested in bringing Phi Delta Chi to their campuses. I look forward to working with this Brother and know that they will be of tremendous help in ensuring our Fraternity’s healthy growth and stability.

Vision and Values

Many of us made the life changing decision to pledge Phi Dex because of the high value it places of Service, Scholarship, Leadership, and Brotherhood. I am very proud of the Brotherhood’s decision to adopt new Vision and Values statements at the 68th Grand Council that continue support these values and positive professional direction. My vision for the office of GVPCA is to echo and help bring to truth the new Vision of our Fraternity:

Phi Delta Chi will be the pharmacy fraternity of first choice for:

• Students seeking professional develop-ment and leadership skills,

• Faculty and administration seeking a respected student organization to de-velop students, and Employers seeking pharmacists with skills and experi-ences that set them apart.

• Phi Delta Chi will strengthen its Brothers in serving the commu-nity and driving the evolution of the profession of pharmacy. Each Brother will exemplify responsibility for sus-tained involvement in Phi Delta Chi throughout their lifetime.

More specifically, I would like to focus on providing our Brothers will skills and tools that with “set them apart” as they begin applying for jobs and residencies. As GVPSA Ryan Costantino announced

GRAND VICE PRESIDENT FOR COLLEGIATE AFFAIRS LEXIE TURNER (ALPHA IOTA)[email protected]

Page 5: October 2011 e-Communicator

e-Communicator September 2011Page 5www.PhiDeltaChi.org

in the September E-Communicator, we are working together with a fabulous team of Brothers to develop a CV writing/interviewing skills workshop. The workshop will include a set of helpful accompanying documents and questionnaires for Brothers to utilize and share with their chapters. To dovetail on what Brother Costantino stated, I feel Phi Delta Chi must do more to prepare our Brothers for the competitive job market that awaits them. Providing our members with these professional development tools will not only give them the competitive edge they need to secure top jobs and residencies, but it will also make Phi Delta Chi the “first choice for students seeking professional development” when deciding to pledge a pharmacy fraternity. We have strong hopes of integrating this new CV/Interviewing workshop into our Leader Development

Seminar, Grand Council, and Regional Conferences beginning next summer.

Chapter Operations

The last goal I have while in office is to have smooth Chapter Operations on a day-to-day basis. I couldn’t do this without my Team of Regional Directors; they truly are my eight right hands. I hold my Team to the same expectations that I hold myself: provide prompt positive feedback, assist chapters when and wherever possible, meet deadlines, and communicate with the other Regional Officers. I hope that Chapters continue to utilize the Regional Directors for advice, help, and information whenever they may need. I too am here to serve you, so please feel free to contact me with your concerns. In all things relating to Chapter Operations, communication is the key and getting your chapters the knowledge is power!

You have my word that I will strive to do my best in accomplishing the goals set forth for Collegiate Expansion, bringing to life the new Vision of Phi Delta Chi, and keeping the day-to-day Chapter Operations running efficiently.

I am looking forward to spending time with Brothers on Founder’s Day next month. I hope everyone takes a moment to reflect on our Brotherhood and thank our Founding Father’s for everything we have in Phi Delta Chi!

AAAE,

Lexie
