October 15th Presentationjulia wargaski : thesis 1 fall 2012

by Elizabeth Kenney

Concept:

varied relationships (reaching an eqilibrium)

So far the concept driving my thesis is the idea of opposing relationships throughout a persons life. The different actions and reactions one person has to a great individual (Charles Fredrick Kenney) in opposition to anothers.

Who is Charlie to me in contrast to other friends and family?

How do I want the viewer to experience and get to know my big brother?

Charles Fredrick Kenney was and forever will remain a remarkable individual. I would like to introduce the public to a rare human being — who they have never met before and never will.

To whom this may concern:

this project concerns myself and others I primarily chose Charlie, my brother, to focus on for my thesis and the relationships he shared to help myself adapt and overcome from the grief. After experimenting and thinking more about what I want people to take away from my piece and how I want them to feel I came to realize something. My project is not just for myself and those who loved Charlie, it is for those who want to get to know someone who they have never met and never will. However those viewers who are unfamiliar with Charlie personally will come to know him by stepping through a complex timeline of his life.

Train of thought:

cahrlie charlie cahrlie

I am consistently thinking about the loss of my brother, however thesis has helped get me to think outside of a negative train of thought.

There are various solutions to what I am aiming to accomplish but I have not quite come to a conclusion on one set plan and execution.

I believe that the viewers will feel slightly bleak due to the fact that Charlie is no longer alive. However the overwhelming emotion should be of joy and laughter. I hope that the viewer will be inspired by Charlies good doings and accomplishments through his life and maybe take a piece of that goodness and utilize it in some aspect of their own life.

draft a questionnaire for friends and family

script a brief artists statement for friends and family to understand what I am doing.

pros and cons of utilizing a zoetrope or curio-cabinet structure?

pros and cons of having a soundtrack to the piece?

What to do next:

contact the family

begin to organize data from Charlies life into excel sheet.

what artifacts would best represent certain important instances of his life.

trends in his character

think further and brainstorm about how the infograph could best represent him and his relationships as a whole.

Questions:

what should i be questioning at this phase

what exact methods of communication I will end up employing?

how I will end up going about what I have exactly chosen to do?

what materials I will use?

how much time I will need?

for the 3D aspect who will I need to lend a hand in teaching me about building that kind of structure?

where I would like it to end up?

how the infograph will be broken up into sections?

thinking in layers?

Thank you!
