CHAPEL NOTESTwo big events occurred in chapel earlier this month. Thank you to everyone who participated in our St. Fran-cis of Assisi Eucharist on October 2. Everyone looked so handsome and pretty in their dress uniforms. Spe-cial thanks to The Rev. Jim Haney, Rector at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, and The Rev. Dr. Jennifer Holder, Cantebury Chaplain at Texas Tech, for joining us on this special day. It was great to spend time with these two school friends and to meet Mtr. Jennifer’s dog, Margot! On October 1, I had a great time before school with the annual Blessing of the Animals. We had a wonderful menagerie of dogs, cats, birds, hermit crabs, snakes and a few stuffed friends, too. Thanks to all of the parents who helped transport these creatures to and from school! We are all called to be good stewards of God’s creation, and the nurture and care of our pets is a big way to live out the call.

Tuesday during chapel, the 8th grade students shared with the community reflections on their time at MO Ranch earlier this month. It was great to experience the trip through their stories!

God’s blessings to each of you as we move into Fall. It is a great time to be a part of God’s creation as we watch it transform before us daily!Peace, Chaplain Paige+

SECOND GRADE THANK YOUSecond grade wants to thank all the parents who drove to Safety City for our recent field trip. A special thank you to Mrs. Long for driving the van. It was a very informative and fun time. An added treat was had when a couple of our thoughtful parents bought pizza for the entire grade to have when we got back to school!

TECHNICALLY SPEAKING with Dr. Penny CarpenterAre you struggling to understand (or work with your student) a cer-tain concept? It may be that a homework assignment needs more clari-fication. Kahn Academy can help. Learn concepts by watching short instructional videos and participating in interactive practice. There is something for every grade level, even SAT test preparation and college admission guidance. Subjects such as Math and Science are listed, but other topics are available if one uses the search box. For example, while using the keyword ‘grammar’ I received many links under a Reading & Writing category. Access the website at https://www.khanacademy.org or download the app to a smart device. Create a free account and begin your personalized learning or assign concepts to your students.

HIGH SCHOOL ALL REGION MIXED CHOIR RESULTSCongratulations to the following three high school students who competed and were named to All Region Mixed Choir: senior Keely Umstot, along with sophomores Anna Arnett and Kenyan Mortensen.

These students will be performing in the All Region concert and competing at Pre Area auditions.

ART NEWS FROM MS. MCCARTNEYOver the summer, All Saints was awarded a grant through the Lubbock Area Foundation for our Weaving for Warmth project. This grant provides the opportunity to purchase two weaving looms and a small assort-ment of yarn for the art department. Middle school and high school art students will be learning how to knit and weave on the looms. The homeless at Grace Campus (formally known as Tent City) need items to keep warm in the cold winter season in Lubbock. We are going to address this basic need of others while learn-ing about textures, weaving and knitting. This is a practical application of fiber art to create end products such as scarves and blankets to be donated this winter season.

Weaving for Warmth gives us the opportunity to create something that will impact those who are less fortunate in our community. If you would like to help out with our project, we are looking for yarn donations. Any color of yarn will work as well a variety of yarn, including: acrylic, cotton, wool, and blends. High School Art has already started working on the project, and middle school students will begin in a few weeks. There are boxes for donations near the art studios. Thank you so much for your consideration as we get started on this wonderful project!

As of Tuesday, October 13, leaders in each division are Kindergarten, Second grade, Seventh grade, and the Seniors. Keep cutting those Box Tops!

UNITED WAY DRIVE UNDERWAYThe student drive for United Way officially kicked off last week. After the first week of change collec-tion during morning announcements, the students have raised $288.73.
