Please Wait Over the years of sitting in the pew before becoming a priest, I have not heard any stern admonishments from the pulpit or altar. Going to Saint Olaf in downtown Minneapolis, Monsignor Francis Fleming (God rest his soul) would begin his homilies by reminding parents

where the nursery was to bring their crying children, emphasizing that the parish was a pilot parish geared for adults. He was not stern about it, but more matter-of-fact. I would think that maybe some families got turned off by that admonishment and went elsewhere for Mass, while others who go to Saint Olaf particularly because of the adult emphasis are thanking Monsignor for pointing it out.

I have heard about other priests who have been a bit stern to the point of stopping Mass to admonish someone or some child for whatever misdeed has been done. I really do not want to be that guy. It is my hope that the parents will have enough common sense to take care of the distractions without me having to say anything.

However, there is one particular behavior that happens from time to time that gets under my skin that I kind of wish I was that guy to admonish when it was happening. This particular behavior is more obvious at Saint Pius than at Saint Joseph, mainly because of the way worship space and the building as a whole is set up. The behavior I am referring to is when folks come in and out of the worship space, especially during the Eucharistic prayer. Yeah, I understand that nature calls at inconvenient times, the need to use the facilities is real. I get that. If one needs to walk out while I am preaching, I can live with that. But that Eucharistic Prayer is the most important part of the Mass, the holiest thing we do at Mass. That is why we kneel during that time. In our kneeling, we show our reverence in the knowledge the substance of the bread and wine are transformed into the Body and Blood of Christ. Our focus should be nowhere else, even if nature is calling. Walking in and out during that time disregards what should be at our core. The prayer is only a few minutes. One can wait until we stand to answer the call. And one can wait until the prayer is done before reentering the worship space. It is

easier to spot this at Saint Pius because of where sanctuary is and where the bathrooms are.

Again, I do not care to be “that guy”, but I felt it was something I needed to get off my chest.—TB

2017 APPALACHIA CHRISTMAS MISSION &

PAPAL FOOTPRINTS St. Paul and Minneapolis Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women is again sponsoring our Appalachia Christmas and Papal Footprints (Shoe Box) Missions. Our Papal Footprints mission started in 2013, and over 1000 shoe boxes were sent. They said they were very grateful for this additional mission. All the gifts were so great and the youth really appreciated their own personal gift. Thank you.

The generosity of our Minnesota parishes and families, for 40 years, have brought Christmas Joy to the families in Kentucky. A semi-trailer donated by Terminal Transport Company of Roseville was filled from the very back to the front, way to the top of the 53 foot semi trailer. It is just amazing the generosity of our Minnesota families. What a blessing. The parishes service over 600 families each. A SPECIAL REQUEST: PUT THE NAME OF THE PARISH AND TOWN ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE BOX, REALLY DON’T NEED WHATS IN THEM. BOXES SEALED SHUT!!! Our gifts are now delivered to the Appalachia Mission Center and it is harder for the volunteers to divide the boxes when they come off the semi. Thank You. Do not send money in the boxes but monetary donations are always welcome. Send the money to the parish priests:

St. Louis de Montfort taught that praying the Rosary as part of a group multiplies the effectiveness of our prayers calling down the graces of conversion and peace to our world.

The month of October is dedicated to the rosary. As a parish family, we renew our efforts to pray the Rosary together before Mass.

Please come 15 minutes early and join in this powerful intercessory prayer.

Our Lady of the Rosary, pray for us.

During the October 13th Miracle the children saw: St. Joseph with the child Jesus blessing the world Our Lady of Sorrows with Our Lord as a young man blessing the world Our Lady of Mount Carmel - representing the victory of Christ and the triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary The 70,000—100,000 people standing in the pouring rain who witnessed the miracle saw the clouds part and the sun as a ball of fire falling to the earth. They saw it change colors and move all around the sky. After the miracle all was dry even though it had been raining hard. “I am the Lady of the Rosary. Continue always to pray the Rosary every day.” Our Lady of the Rosary, pray for us
