Problem/Question stated as a question ? Come from observations.

Qualitative: use the five senses to describe

    Quantitative: Use numbers to describe

Dissect the Problem to find your variables.

Independent variable: What might cause a change?

Dependent Variable: What might change because of the independent variable?

Control Variable: It is the variable that stays the same.  It is not changed!

Hypothesis: Written as an “if…then…” statement

    If (IV) then (DV)

Supplies: List all materials used in the experiment!

Procedures/Experiment: That you write every step of the experiment

    Conclusion

    Remember!!!

To find the Independent variable ask:

    What might cause a change?

To find the Dependent variable ask:

What might change because of the Independent variable of your problem?

When deciding the control variables: Think of all the things that should be constant so it won't alter your experiment.

The Control Group: is the group that nothing is done to it.  It is not tested.  It stays as it always was!

There can be several (many) controlled variables in an experiment.  If an experiment is to be useful, only one variable at a time can

be manipulated (tested) intentionally.  All other variables must be controlled throughout all part of the experiment.  If more than 1

variable is altered at a time, the results of the experiment are invalid.

    ReviewIndependent Variable

The independent, AKA manipulated variable, is a factor that’s intentionally changed by the experimenter.

    Dependent Variable

The dependent, AKA responding variable, is the factor that may

change as a result of changes made in the independent

    variable.

Select one person from the group to be the holder of the paper towel.3. Select one person from the group to place pennies onto the center of the paper towel.  4. Select one person from the group to count the pennies at the end of each trial.5. Select one person from the group to record the data and have him/her fill in the data table.6. Gently hold one sheet of paper towel A by two ends so it lies flat (horizontal) above the desk. 7. Slowly place pennies onto the center of the paper towel (make sure that each time you place a penny on the paper towel you do it in exactly the same manner) counting as you go until the towel rips.  It doesn’t have to rip in the center; it might rip where you are holding the towel.8. The recorder now writes the number in the data table.9. Repeat steps 79 four more times for paper towel A.10. Repeat steps 79 five times for paper towel B.11.       Repeat steps 7  9 five times for paper towel C.11. NEVER change jobs throughout these tests!

Sep 13-7:30 AM Behavior How many of you would like to be able to start fresh from class to class - just because you had a bad day in Mr. Osborne's class - you wish you could start fresh in my class? Well here is your chance. I am (along with a couple of other teachers) are going to try something new this year and I really need your help with it.

    page4.svg

Sep 13-7:30 AM Instead of having your conduct chronicle follow you from class to class, I am going to keep track on my own on a form just like you see below...This is just in my class. So you get a fresh start from class to class. I will tell you when you make a behavior violation. You won't see it - it's in my records. But at least you know about it. Violations will be kept separated by the type of violations.

    page3.svg

Sep 13-7:30 AM Now for the best part!!!! REWARDS!! If you have 0 violations for a week - you will be given a weekly reward (list to follow). Then if you have 0 violations for a month - you will get a monthly reward (list to follow). If you have made a violation - let's try again next week. It starts all over - weekly. But if you make more than 3 violations in a month - a phone call will be made. More than 3 violations will result in some type of consequence (lunch dt, after school dt, conference, etc).
