Obstacles in Learning English

However, there are two possible problems found when Indonesians decide to learn English: internal and external factor.

Obstacles in Learning English

They are many countries in the world. Almost all of them have different language. In this globalization era, there is no barrier between us with people out site our country. Therefore, we need one language to link us with each other. One of the most popular languages is English. So, we need to learn English to help us survive in this era. But as we know that English is not our mother language. It makes some of us difficult to learn it. There are two obstacle factor for us to learn English, internal factor and external factor.

The internal factor that makes us difficult to learning English is motivation. Motivation is the most common of internal factor that the student may discourage and lazy to learn English. There are some reasons that make people give up learning English because they make their own barrier to learn English with lack of motivation. For example; they think, it is too difficult to learn but they never try before, even some of them stop in the middle of the process when they face new problem and maybe some of them do not know the advantage and the important to learn English so it makes them lazy to learn. The other problem for students is they are too shy to speak with English because English is not used for daily life. But if we have strong motivation to learn English we will never give up and face the problem without worry to make mistake. Some of us also can make a goal to learn English so we will never forget our purpose. A lot of practices sometimes help encourage us to speak English.

The external obstacles factor is a factor that comes from out site of our self. There are many external factors in learning English. The first is the learning method. In most English school, the learning material and the method are difficult to understand and sometimes they left alone the student to study their own so it makes them confuse. And the other makes the student just watching the teacher teach them and reading the textbook without any interaction. It makes student feel bored. It is good to make the lecture more fun with some innovation and make good interaction between student and the teacher. The second is grammar. Sometimes English has different grammar with our mother language. It makes us difficult to learn English because the different structure in each different function of sentence. And it is take a long time for first learner to understand it. Maybe in this case we can do a lot of practice with reading article or practice make good sentences and use it in daily life. The third is pronunciation. It is difficult to use good pronunciation because we seldom speak or hear direct from native speaking. Sometimes some words have different pronunciation depend in situation such as “the”. Maybe to improve our pronunciation, we can watch movie and listening music. The fourth is vocabulary. It is difficult to understand every single word because English have a lot of vocabulary. To face this problem, we can watch movie or reading book so it will enrich our vocabulary. And the last is slang word. There are so many slang word and phrase make us confuse and hard time when they mix together.

In conclusion, there are two obstacle factor when we learn English, internal factor and external factor. But if we love English and have strong motivation we can pass our problem easily. So, keep practice and never give up learning English.
