How it WorksParticipants develop strategies and skills to be more effective collaborators, communicators, negotiators, and personal advocates. They also benefit from a community of peers and senior colleagues.

What Makes OASIS Different? The OASIS program is more than a series of workshops. For maximum impact, it is important to connect all the components. The program is structured so that the peer mentoring exercises build on the skills and content from the workshop. The coaching sessions allow the participants to set goals related to workshop topics as well as overall program goals. The OASIS methodology is based on the adult learning principles of providing opportunity for reflection; encouraging taking action and; allowing for self-direction.

Participating in OASIS activities also strengthened my grant applications to NSF and I was

able to write concretely and specifically about how OASIS helped me in mentoring women

students/colleagues in my lab in the STEM fields. I believe that these experiences contributed

to my receipt of the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers.”
