Communicating Foreign Currency Services

Start the Conversation!

Are you tired of the same old small talk with every customer, client or member? Does anyone really care to comment on

the weather or traffic? No! What does EVERYONE get excited about? VACATION! You are in an interesting and exciting

position as you have the opportunity to better serve your customer/member and win a prize at the same time - all you have

to do is up your small talk A-game!

Determining whether or not your customer/member is traveling is EASY - all you have to do is C.A.R.E. Try opening the

foreign currency conversation with a question such as, “Do you have any exciting travel plans this summer?”. Even if your

customer/member is not traveling soon, this question can often lead to open and easy conversation about past travels and

plans for the future. If your customer/member is not traveling soon, this is not a loss (please see Business Development

Suggestions). If your customer/member confirms that they have plans to travel abroad, be prepared to continue on into the

next phase of the conversation by following the C.A.R.E. process:

COUNTRIES - Determine where your customer/member is traveling to, and make sure they purchase every currency

they need while abroad. Your sales will increase, and your traveler will thank you for helping them arrive prepared!

AMOUNT - How much currency is your traveler planning on bringing with them? It is common for travelers to

underestimate the amount of currency they will use while abroad. A tip here and a tip there adds up fast!

REASON - Business travelers may require a small amount of cash for taxis and tips where a family trip may require

more cash to support a larger group of people and the costs of multiple activities and additional incidentals.

EXTRA - How does your traveler plan on handling extra spending? Many travelers assume that credit and debit cards

are accepted everywhere. However, new Chip & PIN card technology adopted by many European countries can make

payment with a credit or debit card overseas inconsistent. Make sure your traveler has enough local currency to account

for train tickets, bike rentals and shopping.

Serve your customers/members and beyond! As customers/members continue to line up at your till, it is easy to forget to look past the initial transaction request. Aswe discussed in the “Communicating Foreign Currency Services” piece, it is important to initiate conversation that maylead to the sale or purchase of foreign currency. However, what happens when your customer/member tells you that theydo not have any upcoming travel plans? Is it a loss? Of course not! The odds are in your favor that even if your currentcustomer/member does not have upcoming travel plans that they know someone that does. Also, this will keep you andyour organization in the forefront of this customer/member’s thoughts when it comes to future travel money needs. Thishas the potential to not only increase foreign currency sales (getting you closer to the winning prize!) but it also gives youthe chance to acquire new clients for your institution.

Try the following tips to ensure that you are serving your customers/members... and beyond!

• We know you are ready to sell foreign currency and win this year’s campaign - but what about the rest of the members at your branch? Be sure to communicate that you are in the midst of a competition with a prize! Missing one foreign currency transaction could be the difference between winning and losing!

• Are you standing at your till waiting for a customer? When was the last time someone came through the door? If your organization permits, try calling local businesses, churches and schools to find out if there are any plans for future international trips. Let the travelers in your community know that your institution offers foreign currency services. One group of travelers could add just the right competitive edge to push your branch into first place!

• Get noticed! Are there physical indicators at your branch that show that you offer foreign currency services? Travelex offers window clings, posters and counter cards that advertise foreign currency sales. Contact us for details at: [email protected].

• The account manager for business at your location is also a great resource. This manager may have knowledge of clients planning to travel for business, as people frequently contact their financial institution when they plan to travel abroad so that credit and debit card usage does not get flagged as fraudulent. Make sure these travelers arrive with local currency in hand!

Know Your Product!

Knowledge is power! Take a moment to refresh yourself on foreign currency products - knowing your product is key to winning! The more

confidently you explain your products and why your traveler needs these products, the more likely you are to close a sale.

Please note, your financial institution may not offer every product or service on this sheet.

Foreign Currency Banknotes:

As a partner of Travelex, you have access to over 80 foreign currencies. It is important for your traveler to purchase their

currency prior to departure. Travelers can become stranded in an unfamiliar country if they do not arrive prepared with local

cash on hand. Landing with local currency in hand will ensure that your traveler can immediately begin enjoying their trip

as soon as they land instead of searching for ATMs or a foreign currency bureau. Also, business travelers frequently land

and have to quickly collect their belongings and attend a function or a meeting. Landing with cash on hand allows these

business travelers to quickly and efficiently pay for a taxi, grab something to eat and still arrive at their destination on time.

CashPax™:

CashPax™ are a pre-packaged wallet of local currency containing a range of

banknote denominations. This product is designed to provide travelers with a

particular set of foreign currency denominations necessary for taxi fare, tipping

and other incidentals. CashPax™ are available in Euros, British Pounds,

Japanese Yen, Australian Dollars, Canadian Dollars, US Dollars, Mexican Pesos

and Dominican Pesos (Canadian market only). As it becomes more important

to use local currency abroad, CashPax™ ensures a smooth experience from

arrival to departure –especially for low value payments.

Having local currency on hand upon arrival expedites the travel experience by reducing time at airports and reduces

unnecessary stress caused from searching for a bureau de change. Purchasing CashPax™ prior to departure also

provides travelers with confidence in becoming familiar with unfamiliar banknotes and coins.
