TRANSCRIPT

Cut out a shape like a medicine bottle and paste the prayer onto it, to show that God is the source of all healing.

Thy name is my healing,

O my God, and

remembrance of Thee is

my remedy. Nearness to

Thee is my hope, and

love for Thee is my

companion. Thy mercy to

me is my healing and my

succor in both this world

and the world to come.

Thou, verily, art the All-

Bountiful, the All-

Knowing, the All-Wise.

-Bahá'u'lláh

If it be Thy

pleasure,

make me to

grow as a

tender herb in

the meadows

of Thy grace,

that the

gentle winds

of Thy will

may stir me

up and bend

me into

conformity

with Thy

pleasure, in

such wise that

my movement

and my

stillness may

be wholly

directed by

Thee.

-Baha'u'llah

Cut out the flower shape to create a “tender herb” which your child can decorate. Or you can cut out the words and paste the quotation onto green paper, cut out like a stem with a leaf, and then attach your own flower shape (cut out of colored paper) to the top. You may like to add your child’s picture on the heart to show that they are a “tender herb” protected by God.

Devotional on Gentleness

One word may be likened unto fire, another unto light, and the influence which both

exert is manifest in the world. Therefore an enlightened man of wisdom should

primarily speak with words as mild as milk,

(Baha'u'llah, Tablets of Baha'u'llah, p. 172)

Be ye kind to the human world, and be ye compassionate to the race of man, deal with

the strangers as you deal with the friends, be ye gentle toward the outsiders as you

are toward the beloved ones, know the enemy as the friend,

(Abdu'l-Baha, Tablets of Abdu'l-Baha v1, p. 42)

If they oppose you be gentle with them, if they contradict be firm in your faith, if

they desert you and flee from before you, seek them out and treat them kindly. Do

harm to nobody; pray for all; try to make your light shine in the world and let your

banner fly high in the Heavens. The beautiful perfume of your noble lives will

permeate everywhere. The light of truth kindled in your hearts will shine out to the

distant horizon!

(Abdu'l-Baha, Paris Talks, p. 118)

These ailing ones must be tended by spiritual physicians, these who are the lost need

gentle guides -- so that from such souls the bereft may receive their portion, and the

deprived obtain their share, and the poor discover in such as they unmeasured wealth,

and the seekers hear from them unanswerable proofs.

(Abdu'l-Baha, Selections from the Writings of Abdu'l-Baha, p. 272)

If thou wishest to guide the souls, it is incumbent on thee to be firm, to be good and

to be imbued with praiseworthy attributes and divine qualities under all circumstances.

Be a sign of love, a manifestation of mercy, a fountain of tenderness, kind-hearted,

good to all and gentle to the servants of God, and especially to those who bear no

relation to thee, both men and women. Bear every ordeal that befalleth thee from the

people and confront them not save with kindness, with great love and good wishes.

(Abdu'l-Baha, Tablets of Abdu'l-Baha v3, p. 619)

O ye loved ones of God! Is there any giver save God? He singleth out for His mercy

whomsoever He willeth. Erelong will He open before you the gates of His knowledge

and fill up your hearts with His love. He will cheer your souls with the gentle winds of

His holiness and make bright your faces with the splendours of His lights, and exalt

the memory of you amongst all peoples. Your Lord is verily the Compassionate, the

Merciful.

(Abdu'l-Baha, Selections from the Writings of Abdu'l-Baha, p. 186)

My Book About Gentleness

Gentleness is being considerate of the

feelings of other people. Our bodies

and our voices should be gentle.

When we play we make sure our touch

is not too rough.

We use nice voices so we don’t hurt

anyone’s ears or feelings.

We are careful not to harm the

things around us, too.

We should also be gentle with ourselves.

We all need quiet time sometimes.

Being gentle means using self-control

so that we respect everyone and

everything around us. It helps us all

feel safe and cared for.

Gentleness

If it be Thy pleasure,

make me to grow as a tender herb

in the meadows of Thy grace,

that the gentle winds of Thy will may stir me up

and bend me into conformity with Thy pleasure,

in such wise that my movement and my stillness

may be wholly directed by Thee.

-Baha'u'llah

This month our family is learning about Gentleness.

If it be Thy pleasure,

make me to grow as a tender herb

in the meadows of Thy grace,

that the gentle winds of Thy will may stir me up

and bend me into conformity with Thy pleasure,

in such wise that my movement and my stillness

may be wholly directed by Thee.
