NZTC STUDY ADDS PROFESSIONAL EDGE AFTER 18 YEAR ECE CAREER
Mona Verma feels empowered to further her teaching journey in New Zealand since studying a Graduate Diploma in Teaching (ECE) with NZTC.
For Indian graduate Mona Verma, early childhood teaching has never just been a job.
“This profession is something that is deeply connected to my heart. I feel nourished at the end of each day because I’ve interacted, created, and shared my heart with the children,” she said.
Now 18 years into her early childhood education career, Mona has added a “professional edge” to her teaching practice by completing a Graduate Diploma in Teaching (ECE) with NZTC.

“I always knew in my heart ‘what to do’, but ‘how to do it’ has only come from my NZTC study. I now feel much more empowered to practice as a professional kaiako in New Zealand.
“I think it’s very important to give yourself a background in study for your profession. Now that I have the tools and knowledge, I can be confident that I am doing the right thing for the children.”
Despite taking some time to adjust to her new life as a student in New Zealand, the mother of two has thrived with the college’s support and is now employed at an early childhood centre in Auckland.
“As a mature student, it wasn’t easy for me to make a new start. But with a lot of support and encouragement from my lecturers, I was able to finish my study in the allocated time,” she shared.
“I have felt so supported by NZTC along this whole journey. There was always someone available to help. If I ever struggled to make sense of something, I knew I could call somebody.”
Mona believes early childhood teaching is a great career for anyone with a true passion for children.
“This is not just like any other job, we are here to make a difference in children’s lives. You need a lot of stamina, patience, and strength but at the end of the day, it really is a beautiful profession.”

NEW ZEALANDERS’ PERCEPTIONS OF INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION
New Zealanders are increasingly recognising the benefits of international education, according to the latest international education perceptions research.
New Zealand’s Education Minister recently released the survey results, which show that New Zealanders’ perceptions of the benefits international education brings to the country are improving over time. The majority of Kiwis agree that international education contributes positively to:
A New Zealand that is multicultural
A New Zealand that is open-minded, friendly and welcoming to all people
The opportunity for international students (and their friends and family) to learn about New Zealand cultures and ways of life
One respondent stated, “By bringing a global perspective to our educational facilities, international students increase New Zealanders’ understanding of global cultures and perspectives.”
