Reflection Statement (NUTR 302) Taking the Advanced Nutrition Class provided me with the information a professional in the nutrition field needs to know. This course covered the detailed processes happening in the body and the products and byproducts of these steps. For example, understanding the processes of energy production, storage and breakdown will create a strong knowledge base for the students who are interested in learning more advanced nutrition information. This will help the students understand why and how certain things happen in the body. This course also educated the students on anatomical and physiological aspects of foods and nutrition. For example, we learned about the importance of adequate amounts of vitamins and minerals in the diet and the diseases and health concerns that may arise from lack of or excessive amounts of intake. We also were introduced to different food sources providing these nutrients. In this class, we learned about the anatomy and physiology of the entire digestive tract and specific functions of each site. We were introduced to different food groups such as fats, carbohydrates, proteins and alcohol and how they are processed in the digestive tract. We learned about the different absorption sites for these nutrients and were introduced to the locations each nutrient gets mainly digested in. We also learned about the variety of digesting enzymes and their role in aiding with digestion of food and the organs producing them.

Reflection Statement (NUTR 302)Taking the Advanced Nutrition Class provided me with the information a professional in the nutrition field needs to know. All the information I learned in this class gave me the knowledge to move on to learning higher levels of nutrition information. It deepened my perspective on human body and all the complicated yet efficient reactions and processes happen. The one activity that really stood out for me was the interactive who wants to be a mineralare? game as a class. A lot of the information that I learned for that game, I can still clearly remember. Professor Hooshmand used a great tool to make the information stick with the students: she drew all the detailed steps of reactions on a board using different colored pens. She was very organized and clearly enjoyed drawing the detailed charts. For a person who learns visually, this was a great method to learn.
