Years ago, the first thing I did after starting my automobile was check out what was playing on the radio. My taste in those days was strictly rock with a little roll; nowadays it is talk radio. However, I will find myself having a flashback to the past when I tune in and listen to music. For instance, this morn- ing while driving my car I heard on the radio a favorite from the past titled "Danger Zone" by Kenny Loggins. A few words from "Danger Zone": Highway to the danger zone, gonna take you right into the danger zone. While I was listening to that song I thought about how I need to get to the office and write this weeks church bulletin arti- cle. After giving it some thought, I decided to ask you, "Is the modern day church facing any danger zones?" The answer is, yes of course, the church from the beginning has encountered danger zones. Take the time to read the first three chapters of the Revelation. The Lord Jesus sent seven letters to seven churches analyzing their condition. The seven churches mentioned in the Revelation were much the same as the modern-day church. They were confronted with various danger zones such as false teachers (Revelation 2:2-3), persecution (Revelation 2:9-10), and im- moral behavior (Revelation 2:14). The Lord revealed to them the solution to all of those problems. I failed to mention another danger zone, and according to what the Lord said about it you could easily see how it could be considered the most dangerous danger zone. It is an attitude that can be summed up with these words: I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot; I wish that you were cold or hot. So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth(Revelation 3:15-16). My opinion, for what it is worth, is that indifference and apathy are insidious problems that often confront the church. The Adventure of Little Willie Little Willie was in his kinder-garten class when the teacher, Miss Happy, said to little Ma-

ria, “Go to the map and find North America.” Maria walked to the map and pointed, “Here it is, Miss Hap-py.” Miss Happy said to the class, “Correct.” Miss Happy turned to the class and said, “Who discovered North America?” Little Willie raised his hand. Miss Happy asked, “Little Wil-lie, who discovered North America?” Little Willie replied, "Maria.”

BIRTHDAY & ANNIVERSARIES

Continued from inside . . .

that if the church was embroiled in a problem created by a false teacher or someone such as a preacher behaving im-morally, church members would be more inclined to do something about it. On the other hand, a local congregation can be controlled by an apathetic attitude and the folks consider it no big deal. (I heard the story about several college stu-dents' desire to start on their college campus an apathy club. A time, place, and date was decided for their first meeting. The day came but no one showed up. When asked why no one came to the meeting, someone said the mem-bers were too apathetic.) Well with all joking aside, apathy is not a laughing matter because it will hinder and perhaps kill a local church. I have been involved in full-time church work since May 1982. I have had the pleasure of working with five congregations. After years of experience, I can say an attitude on the part of the members that can be described as indifferent or apathetic is the worst possible problem. Does the Westvue Church of Christ have struggles and areas that need improving? Of course! Yet, all the areas of this congregation can be fixed as long as you the mem-bers refuse to give in to apathy. The answer, according to the Lord Jesus, “19 Those whom I love, I reprove and disci-pline; therefore be zealous and repent” (Revelation 3:19). I am thinking about the remodeling taking place at Westvue and how beautiful and encouraging it will be when finished. If all goes as planned, we will be back in the auditorium in a week or so. Let us all if necessary make a new commitment to give ourselves more fully to the church and the cause of Christ. Have as your goal the desire to be an asset to the congregation. You can easily do it through your prayers, faithful attendance and offering, and a will-ingness to encourage others to visit the church. Rick

Directory - A church directory is a valuable tool. It is how we get to know one another. As we approach the fiftieth anni-versary of Westvue Church of Christ at 1710 Mooresville Hwy. it is a most appropriate time to publish a new directory. We are going to create this new directory totally in house. We will not use an outside photography company. You will

not be pressured to buy pictures. Each family will come to the building and have their picture made (it should take approximately 10 minutes). Your help is needed to create this new directory

Pictures will be made on the following days: August 26 – 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.; August 27 – 2:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.; September 2 – 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.; September 3 – 2:30 – 4:30 p.m.

If you are willing to help in any way, please sign up at the bulletin board or call the church office and let Su-san know that you are willing to help (359-2571).

No birthdays this week.
