8th Grade Math with Mrs. DiRienzo . . .
We have been working on module 4 that covers linear equations and will continue with this topic more in depth. Our student teacher, Miss. Wagner, from Medaille College began and will be with us until May 11th. Think Through Math continues to be utilized and can be utilized at home as well – ask your child for their start card information. Please encourage students to complete daily assignments in order for
skills to be practiced & learned.
Mrs. Marcantonio’s ELA Class recently completed research and essays on African Americans for Black History Month in February. We also analyzed poetry and learned more poetry terms. We then began the introduction to the Holo-caust and The Diary of Anne Frank. There will be a unit test the last week of March. We will then complete a timeline
of Anne Frank’s life using annefrank.org. This unit will continue through April.
New York State ELA Testing will take place on April 5-7.
We continue to practice Literature Terms 1-4, Plot Line and Listening Terms. Poetic Devices and Anne Frank Vocab-
ulary are also terms to practice on Quizlet.
Continue to log onto my Teacher Web Page at: ntschools.org; NTMS; Teacher Pages; Marcantonio,F. Students are
encouraged to go to Quizlet and type in fmarcantonio in the search box to practice Literature Terms.
French and Spanish – In April, the Team Phoenix foreign language classes will complete their shopping unit. They will learn to describe clothing, express prices in the countries where each of the languages are spoken, read advertisements for various types of stores, fill out mail order or internet order catalogue forms, converse with a salesclerk, and identify different types of stores and what each sells. When the students have finished learning the new clothing vocabulary and shopping expressions, they will work with a small group of students to write and then act out a skit that will take place in a clothing store. In the comput-
er lab, the students will have the chance to shop at stores in France and Spain. Happy shopping!!
Mrs. Quinn’s English classes will begin The Diary of Anne Frank in April. As the students begin to read the play, they
will also be introduced to the causes of the Holocaust and its effects on the world in the 1940’s and on our world today. This was
a devastating time in world history. Therefore, parents are encouraged to take the time to discuss the events of this part of histo-
ry with their children in order to help them to better understand the time period. This unit also includes an extensive research
project about this historical time period. Students will be working both in class and at home to complete this project.
April will “fly by” for our students are NYS Common Core testing is scheduled for April 5, 6, & 7 for ELA and April 13, 14, & 15
for math.

February Student of The Month
Our 7th grade students in Ms. Feldmann’s and Mrs. Turner’s health classes decided
to participate in Jump Rope for Heart which is sponsored by the American Heart Associa-
tion. The American Heart Association has been able to work with multiple health care pro-
viders to reduce the number of people dying from heart disease and stroke by 25% and
those achievements are all because of donations made from students across the country.
Combined, our students were able to raise over $900!! Congratulations and a job well
done!!
