Research findings –Beaufort School Survey •
• Understand the overall importance of employer engagement to schools.
• Examine any barriers to effective employer engagement. • Understand whether schools value work experience and how
this gap has been filled after Careers Wales no longer has a remit to fulfil this.
• Examine how schools react to potential new methods of delivery, including webinars, virtual reality, augmented reality and instructional videos that exemplify employment sectors.
• Understand which Careers Wales services were of most value to schools.
• Examine school’s opinion of two recent Careers Wales products – Education Business Exchange database and Business Class.
• Understand whether schools prefer to have relationship with lots of different employers or just one or a few.
• Understand what ideal employer engagement would look like to schools.
Potential new technology to help deliver employer engagement activity was in principle well received. Virtual reality software was viewed most positively
with 7 in 10 describing it as extremely or very appealing.
However, schools did point out a number of practical reservations about using such technology including whether they would have technology in-house and sufficient internet access to make full use of these
options as well as being able to timetable it.
In addition, the use of technology in delivering these activities was seen as supplementary to face-to-face
activities rather than a replacement of it.
