section one - people, place and environment 1 Lesson Plan Code PPE/E/1 Curriculum for Excellence: Social Science/People, Place and Environment Theme: Adopting my Local Park Year Group: Early Time Requirement: 1hr Park, District or School Visit: District or School Experience and Outcome: SOC 0-08a I explore and appreciate the wonder of nature within different environments and have played a part in caring for the environment. Related Outcomes: I will be able to look after and conserve a green space within my local park Overview: After identifying a local park, ranger led activities will teach the pupils necessary identification and conservation skills to protect and enhance their local environment. Activity Successful Learner Effective Contributor Responsible Citizen Confident Individual Habitat Improvements Planting of wildflower seeds or trees to create a wild area within the local greenspace (with follow up) Participation in a practical activity which will result in a real improvement to the environment which will encourage motivation and enthusiasm All pupils will plant trees or seeds and contribute to an improved habitat The pupils will carry out habitat improvements which will have a direct benefit to nature Carrying out a task to improve a local habitat will allow the pupils to feel important in the role they play in conserving nature Bark Rubbing Activity showing the differences in barks of a variety of tree species (with follow up) Art will be incorporated into this activity The opportunity to produce a bark rubbing will be give to all pupils Pupils will gain an appreciation of diversity within the natural world Pupils will be encouraged to present their work and express their thoughts about the diversity of species Other activities Alternatives could be bird watching, bird boxes, bird feeders, hibernation homes, tidy- up Participation in a practical activity which will result in a real improvement to the environment which will encourage motivation and enthusiasm All pupils will contribute to an improved habitat The pupils will carry out habitat improvements which will have a direct benefit to nature Carrying out a task to improve a local habitat will allow the pupils to feel important in the role they play in conserving nature
