CHRIST, KING OF ALL On this, the final Sunday of the liturgical year, we celebrate the solemnity of Christ the King. By concluding the year with this feast we are proclaiming our faith that Jesus Christ is the one and only king over all seasons, all peoples, and all of creation. At the end of time as we know it, Christ’s work of restoring all things to unity and harmony with their Creator God will be completed. This Sunday, when we claim Christ as both our Shepherd and our King, we recognize our own calling to participate in Christ’s saving work by caring for those whom Jesus calls “the least ones” (Matthew 25:45).

Pope Francis: A New Call to Stewardship We are called to Respect and protect all of creation. It means protecting all creation, the beauty of the created world, as the Book of Genesis tells us and as Saint Francis of Assisi showed us. It means respecting each of God’s creatures and respecting the environment in which we live. -Pope Francis March 19, 2013 Pope Francis tells us that Saint Francis, his namesake, stresses the celebration and protection of God’s marvelous creation. We are called to care for our planet through recycling, planting vegetables and trees. We are also called to keep our communities and neighborhoods clean. We need to be thoughtful and responsible consumers. By doing our part to protect our planet and all that live on it, we are living as good stewards to ensure life for future generations to come. PROTECTING CREATION

Do I try to stop wasteful spending and live more simply?

Am I content with what I have instead of striving for more?

Do I take proper care of my body? Do I recycle and conserve natural resources like

food, water, electricity and gasoline? Do I share my possessions with those who have

less than I?

From “Leadership is Stewardship” by Bill Peel 4 Principles of Biblical Ownership (cont.)

4. The principle of reward.

In Colossians 3:23-24 Paul writes: Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. The Bible shows us in the parables of the Kingdom that faithful stewards who do the master’s will with the master’s resources can expect to be rewarded incompletely in this life, but fully in the next.

We all should long to hear the master say what He exclaims in Ma hew 25:21: Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!

As Chris ans in the 21st century, we need to embrace this larger biblical view of stewardship, which goes beyond church budgets or building projects, though important; it connects everything we do with what God is doing in the world. We need to be faithful stewards of all God has given us within the opportuni es presented through His providence to glorify Him, serve the common good and further His Kingdom.

Every faculty you have, your power of thinking or of moving your limbs from moment to moment, is given you by God. If you devoted every moment of your whole life exclusively to His service, you could not give Him anything that was not in a sense His own already. – C. S. Lewis, Mere Chris anity

Stewardship Financial Report for Oct 29 will be printed in the next bulle n.

Youth Group Selling

White Crosses Our Youth Group is selling small white crosses that can be placed in your yard or garden. The small white crosses are a statement in answer to an atheist’s complaint about two crosses on a bridge in a Michigan town. He requested that they be removed, and the town removed them. He then decided that since he was so successful with that, the city shield should also be changed since it had a cross on it along with other symbols that signify the city’s Lutheran beginning. At that point, the residents decided they had had enough. Hundreds of residents made their opinions known by placing small crosses in their front yards. Seeing this quiet but powerful statement from the community, the man removed his complaint. Thanks to the St. Joan of Arc Knights of Columbus they are making the crosses. The Youth Group is painting them and gets to keep the proceeds. The cost is $5.00 each. The cross is 12 inches high and 6 inches wide. At the bottom is a 6 inch rod that will go into the ground. If you would like to order one or many, please contact Nancy Lovelock, Youth Minister at: [email protected] or by calling 686-7864. We will be selling them all summer long ...and longer.
