King. We hear Jesus telling Pilate:
“My kingship is not of this world.”
Jesus admitted that He was a
King, but not the kind of king this
world knows. He was not a
political or military leader. He was
not a king of wealth or glamor or
power.
What kind of King is He then?
Where is His kingdom? What is
His kingdom? The Preface of
today’s Mass answers these
questions: “… that by offering
Himself on the altar of the Cross …
He might accomplish the mysteries
of human redemption … and he
might present to Your Majesty an
eternal and universal kingdom, a
kingdom of Truth and Life, a
kingdom of Holiness and Grace, a
kingdom of Justice, Love and
Peace.”
Every time we work for these
precious things – Truth, Life,
Holiness, Grace, Justice, Love,
Peace – we are working for Christ,
we make Christ our King.
Truth. Like St. John Cantius,
tell the truth, no matter what it
costs, and you serve Christ, the
king of all truth.
Life. Christ came that we
Christ the King
St. John Cantius
was born in Poland
in 1390. As a boy,
he was bright and
good. As a priest,
he taught Sacred
Scripture at the University of
Krakow, and also served as a
pastor for several years ,
remembered for his learning and
his devotion to the poor. He made
four pilgrimages to Rome, on foot,
carrying his luggage on his back.
On one of the trips a gang of
robbers took his purse and then
asked him if he had any more
money. The saint said that was all
he had. They sent him on his way.
He had not gone very far when he
remembered that he had several
pieces of gold sewn in his clothes.
He hurried back and gave the gold
to the robbers, begging their
forgiveness for having told a lie.
The thieves were so dumbfounded
and impressed that they returned
all the money they had taken from
him.
Today we honor Christ as our
might have life. His followers must
promote life, for example, do
everything possible to prevent the
murder of millions of innocent
babies by abortion.
Ho l i n e s s a n d g ra ce .
Whatever we do to increase God’s
life in us, for example, assisting at
this Mass, is a service to Christ,
the source of all holiness.
Justice. When we try to be
honest in our dealings with God,
our neighbor, and ourselves, we are
casting a vote for Christ as our
Leader, our King.
Love. Every time we try to
please God and to help our
neighbor we are showing the
outstanding mark of a subject of
Christ the King.
Peace. Make every effort to
promote peace – everywhere – and
you show that you belong to
Christ’s kingdom of peace.
“Thy Kingdom come,” we pray in
the Our Father. On this feast of
Christ, our King, we will all pledge
to promote in our personal lives
and in our communities these
inner, spiritual qualities that
really make Christ our King. God
bless you!

Stewardship Thoughts
Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe
For the Solemnity celebration of
Christ the King, today’s Scripture
readings profess Jesus’ kingship.
In St. John’s Gospel, Jesus makes
clear to Pilate that His kingdom
does not belong to this world. In
Revelation, the Lord God proclaims
that He is the Alpha and the
Omega — the “first and the last” —
and will reign for eternity. The
Prophet Daniel tells of his vision:
one like a Son of man coming, on
the clouds of heaven verifying
Christ’s dominion and glory. How
should we venerate our Lord and
King? As Christian stewards, we
acknowledge Christ’s true Body
and Blood, Soul and Divinity,
present in the Most Holy
Eucharist. During Mass, we strive
to partake of Him in a prayerful,
reverent, and respectful manner.
The Eucharist is the “source and
summit” of our faith. Through
consumption of the Eucharist, we
encounter Jesus in a personal way,
and we a re hea l ed and
strengthened to do our Lord’s
work, especially for our needy
brothers and sisters. As we
internalize our Lord and Savior,
may His joy and peace reign in our
hearts, and may that joy and peace
overflow to everyone we meet.
Please take time to attend the next
Eucharistic Adoration and
Benediction at your parish.
9 am to 11:30 am

Enlisting Witnesses for Jesus Christ
This weekend we celebrate the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, the King. It is
more commonly known as Christ the King Sunday. It was added to the liturgical
calendar by Pius XI in 1925. It is a fitting celebration to the end of Ordinary Time
and transitions nicely into the Advent season’s call to prepare for the coming King.
This solemnity gives a preview of the coming fulfillment of the reign of Christ,
which we will then spend Advent preparing for. It serves as both the fulfillment of
the story as told throughout the liturgical year and as a transition back into
Advent.
It is also a time for adults that have not already been confirmed, but have already
received their other sacraments, after preparation classes, to gather at our
Cathedral and be confirmed by a Bishop on this day.
With the end of Ordinary Time begin the new liturgical year with the beginning of
Advent. Next Sunday is the first week of Advent, so get out your Advent wreath to
use at your home with your family. There will be Advent wreaths in all our
classrooms to use each week.
Joyce Hansen, DRE
Sharing the Gospel Today is Christ the King Sunday.
Instead of using his power selfishly
to get whatever he wanted, Jesus
used his power to free people from
sickness, from death, and from evil.
Jesus came to tell us the truth
about God. Now we need to listen
to the voice of Jesus and follow his
example.
Prayer
Dear God, thank you for sending
Jesus to be our loving king.
