This has been our rallying cry since the beginning of the pandemic and how we saw it affecting our local business community. They have been impacted with restrictions, guidelines and other directives like no other time. We have seen struggles to stay open, changes to business plans and in some cases clo-sures. As we look forward to this holi-day season now, more than ever, we are asking you to join us in making sure our business community will prosper and enter the new year of 2021 ready to continue the road to recovery.

Here are reasons to support our local businesses and bring them the spirit of the holiday season.1. Money Spent Local Stays Lo-cal. By shopping locally, you simulta-neously create jobs, fund more services through sales tax, invest in neighbor-hood improvement and promote com-munity development.

2 Local Businesses Contribute to the Community. Ninety-one percent of local business owners contribute to their community, including schools, nonprofits and community groups, by volunteer-ing and making donations.

3. Local Businesses Provide Jobs. Small local businesses account for a large share of new jobs created each year and locally based businesses provide some of the most stable em-ployment opportunities in a commu-nity. These employees in turn spend in the local economy.4. Supporting Local Business Sup-ports Your Neighbors. Local busi-nesses are generally owned by people who live locally and are part of our community.5. Small Businesses Offer Unique Choices. Local businesses offer shop-pers unique products and services. Independent shops create distinctive shopping experiences and respond more quickly to the need of local cus-tomers, stocking products to meet the changing population needs.6. mean reduced sprawl, congestion, habitat loss, and pollution.9. Entrepreneurship. Local entrepreneur-ship fosters economic innovation and pros-perity. The success of locally owned, indepen-dent businesses provides real-life inspiration to our young people, proving that they can stay here and prosper on their own terms. Start here for your holiday purchases. Visit our local retailers who would value your business. Gift cards also make excellent gifts and can be purchased for services such as hair or massage; activities such as the Zoo or Highlands Center; events at the Findlay Toyota Center who has nu-merous concerts and sporting events scheduled for 2021 and my favorite, our restaurants for a fun night out. We do have something for every-one and this year let’s all make it a holiday sea-son to remember for our local businesses.

Coming EvEntsFeeling thankful. Thankful

to live in this wonderful com-munity, thankful for family and friends, thankful for a wonderful board of directors and staff and thankful for the opportunities I have with the Prescott Valley Chamber of Commerce. (And thankful for Gloria’s pumpkin pie!)

November is a time for appreciating what we have and sharing it with others. On November 11 we thank and honor our Veteran’s. We cannot value and be grateful for their service enough. We should do this every day.

On November 23 it is our turn to help those less for-tunate in our community. Please join me for the Flying High Turkey Drive at Fry’s in Prescott Valley on Mon-day, November 23 between 12 and 6pm and donate a turkey so that others may enjoy a traditional Thanks-giving dinner. We partner with Yavapai Broadcast-ing, Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority, the Prescott Valley Police Department, the National Wild Turkey Federation, Yavapai Food Bank and our Cham-ber board, ambassadors and staff to make this a fun and truly giving event.

We are thrilled to be celebrating our 21st year with Valley of Lights. We have a new display this year as well as updates on some of the older ones. Valley of Lights opens on Thanksgiving evening and is open Sunday - Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m., Friday, Saturday and Holidays 6 to 10 p.m. until December 30. We will once again have our Holiday Stroll through Valley of Lights on December 1 from 6 to 9 p.m. This is a one-night walk through event that is not to be missed.

So many reasons to be thankful we just have to look around and find them.

Wishes for a Happy Thanksgiving. And if you are venturing out to do your Christmas and holiday shop-ping...remember to shop local.
