St. Kieran Catholic Church Twenty-sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time September 29, 2019 [K]eep the commandment without stain or reproach until the appearance of our Lord Jesus Christ. — 1 Timothy 6:14 Notes from Fr. John T oday we celebrate the Twenty- Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time. In the piece of Paul’s letter to Timothy that we have this week we are re- minded of the faith that we have professed in the presence of God and each other. We may be wondering when did I profess that faith as my own. I think each and every week that we gather and celebrate the Eucharist we are making that profession of faith. And often during our liturgies and prayer we recite the Nicene Creed or the Apostles’ Creed. Our real profession comes though when we actually live out our faith in the world. Does our faith show in our families and Home, our workplaces, our schools, or in our nation? Paul asks his followers to come up with actions. The Gospel gives us one example in the story of Lazarus and the rich man. Do we even see those who are in need and do we respond? Slowly but surely, we are being reminded that fall is coming. In the parishes we have been busy looking at the coming seasons and months. This year there seems to be some excitement around the Halloween, All Saints, and All Souls celebration. So please mark your calendar for some upcoming events. On Halloween, October 31st, St. Kieran will be hosting their annual Trunk or Treat in the west Church parking lot. It is a safe evening for the children to wear their costumes and receive treats from parishioners. On All Saints we celebrate those men and women who went before us in faith. Like our readings today describe they lived that faith out. On All Saints Day we celebrate with masses and this year we will be having a celebration of the Days of the Dead at St. Kieran. A number of St. Agnes families asked to do an evening presentation, dinner and celebration on All Saints and so every- one will be invited to that event as well. Finally, on Saturday November 2nd we will have our Masses of Remembrance at both St. Agnes and St. Kieran. This is a time for all of us to celebrate Our family members who have gone before us. It is also a special time to remember those who died this past year. We do not forget! They live on in each of us. Our tables of remembrance at both parishes remind us of how important they were to us. More infor- mation will be coming in the month ahead. This month we are beginning joint baptism classes for St. Agnes and St. Kieran. Parents are required to attend an evening class before they have their children baptized. Beginning in October There will be one class on the first Wednesday of the month. One month the class will be held at St. Agnes, and the next it will be held at St. Kieran. When you call to schedule the class and baptism you will be told where the class will be held. The deacons at both St. Agnes and St. Kieran will continue to host these evenings. This is just another way that the parishes will work together as we go forward. Baptisms will still be scheduled at both St. Kieran and St. Agnes. The Deacons of the Archdiocese

g{tÇ~ lÉâ4

Many thanks to all of the parishioners who purchased raffle tickets for the Diaconate Community’s St. Francis Day Dinner Raffle, which will take place October 6, 2019. Deacons Dave Dutko and Emil Vasek personally thank you for purchasing tickets and supporting the work of the Deacons of the Archdiocese of Chicago. We would also like to publicly thank the Knights of Columbus, Chicago Heights Council #997, for helping the deacons by selling tickets at all the Masses for the last two weekends. You are the best! Thanks for your help!

We have donated books in our library to other organizations and libraries in the area. We have made them available in the Narthex for our parishioners to select each week. Now we would like to invite you to come to the Parish library one more time. Bring your family and friends on October 6th from 8:30 – 11:30. Check out the remaining books and take any of interest to you; by the armful, box, trunk or truck. After this day we will dispose what remains. This space will then be a welcome addition, available for meetings and parish gatherings.

ATTENTION PARISHIONERS!!! WE ARE UPDATING OUR

PRAYER LISTS FOR THE SICK AND THE TROOPS!!!

We are in the process of updating our prayer lists for both the sick and the troops that appear in our bulletin every week. If you have a name or names that you wish to remain on the list, or if you have a name or names to add to the list, please send us written notification of (1) the name or names, and (2) to which list the name or names should be added. We are asking for written notification so we have accurate spelling of the names. This written notifi-cation should be put it in the weekly collection basket or sent/dropped at the Rectory Office by Monday, October 28. Please remember that names may be added to either list at any time during the year by notifying the Rectory Office either in writing or by tele-phone.

Parish News & Events

A meeting for parents of children who will receive First Communion in the Spring will be held on Tuesday, October 15, at 6:30 p.m. at St. Agnes. This is a mandatory meeting, and at least one parent from each First Communion family must attend. Children are not required to attend, but are certainly welcome at the meeting. All other students have the evening off!

An Opportunity to Help

There are three teams of parishioners who help clean the church. Once every six weeks, for 2-3 hours, a team

spends time vacuuming and dusting the church and washing the windows. We need your help. For various reasons, some of our members have become unable to continue in this effort. Can you make the time to become part of this group? If so, please call Roe at 708 758-5404. Thank you.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS SPONSOR

THE BABY BOTTLE FUNDRAISING PROJECT!

The Knights of Columbus and St. Kieran Parish will be participating in the Baby Bottle Fundraising Project for the month of October. Empty plastic baby bottles will be available in the church vestibule beginning the weekend of September 28/29 for parishioners to take home and fill with spare change. Bottle filled with change may be returned to the church anytime during the month of October. The Baby Bottle Fundraising Drive will formally end with the recitation of the Rosary on Sunday, October 27, following the 10 AM Mass in the church. Donations from this project will go directly to the Women’s Center of Chicago to help in their mission of saving babies from being aborted. In the thirty-two years this organization has been in existence, they have saved over forty thousand babies. The Women’s Center provides financial, material, and spiritual assistance to women who might otherwise seek abortions because they cannot take care of a newborn. They also provide counse-ling for those women who have experienced abortion and are seeking healing. All of their services are free of charge and, so, they depend on the generosity of others to continue their mission. We ask our parishioners to be as generous as possible in the effort to help those who cannot help themselves. Our thanks to all who participate in this project!
