Reason and PrerequisitesYou have read SAP Note 73606 and already decided which languages you wantto support on your SAP system.

SolutionTo configure a system to process required languages, follow steps below:

< Unicode System > For 620 SP29 or higher*

* For older SP level, please see 'Additional Information' section >'Unicode configuration for 620 SP28 or lower'.

1. Go to transaction I18N > I18N Menu > I18N Customizing > I18N SystemConfiguration. Or call the report RSCPINST directly via transactionSE38.

Page 2: Note 42305 - RSCPINST (I18N Configuration Tool)

2. Select the languages you require (Or delete languages you do notneed).

If F4 Help of the Key field does not include the language you wouldlike to add, proceed to the section, [How to extend the language list]below.

Attention!

Before you activate the new configuration with one of these newlanguages, it is recommended to contact SAP to evaluate your systemlandscape. Please refer to SAP Note 73606 for further information.

[How to extend the language list] For 620 SP43 or higher*

* For SP 40-42, please start report RSCPISOLA and follow belowsteps from b).

a) Press Extend Language List.

b) Press F4 to select the 2-letter language code that you would liketo add.

c) Press Execute (F8).

d) Return to RSCPINST. Your selected language is now available in F4Help of the Key field.

3. Select the country code.

If there is an existing entry, it displays the country in the fieldsnext to the 'Choose' pushbutton and also all possible countries in thelist.

If it is a new installation or no previous entry is found, it justdisplays 'Unicode' in both the field and the list. If there is a needto select the country, you can make the country list available byfollowing: Menu > Goto > Select Country (Unicode)

The country code reflects to a default encoding for the ABAPstatements

"OPEN DATASET ... IN LEGACY TEXT MODE" and

"OPEN DATASET ... IN TEXT MODE ENCODING NON-UNICODE"

(SAP Note 752835) and also the "IMPORT ... FROM DATABASE" statement ina system which was configured as an MDMP system prior to its Unicodeconversion (SAP Note 588451).

The country code 'Latin-1' is the standard Unicode system setting.

4. Select "Simulation" from the toolbar

5. Read the output and correct as indicated, if any.

6. Return to RSCPINST and select "Activate" from the toolbar

Page 3: Note 42305 - RSCPINST (I18N Configuration Tool)

7. Manually update the DEFAULT profile parameter zcsa/installed_languagesto include all of the languages installed (use the 1-letter LanguageKeys, such as, "E" for English, "D" for German, or "3" for Korean.Case sensitive!). Some languages uses 1 Korean letter. You can copythe new value from Simulation / Activation results screen and paste itinto the field in transaction RZ10, for example. You need to restartthe system after the profile parameter modification.

Standard Unicode system settings should be as followings:

o TCP0D: COUNTRY DBLANGU

New installation -> <empty> E

Upgraded from Non-Unicode -> <same entry as before upgrade>

o TCPDB: CPTRANSFLD CPPOOLCLUS

<empty> <empty>

o TCP0I: NAME ACTIVE TIMESTMP VALUE

processed_languages X <yyyymmddhhmmss> <languages>

< Non-Unicode System >

1. Go to transaction I18N > I18N Menu > I18N Customizing > I18N SystemConfiguration. Or call the report RSCPINST directly via transactionSE38.

2. Select the languages you require (Or delete languages you do notneed.)

3. Select the country code

Select a country code from the list and push "Choose" button. Thedefault selection, right after calling RSCPINST, does not reflect thecurrent value. See "Current NLS Settings" for the currentconfigurations.

Note: the "Country Code" in fact determines whether the system willuse MDMP and the code page that is associated with English. See SAPNote 73606 for more details.

4. Select "Simulation" from the toolbar

5. Read the output and proceed as follows:

a) Install the operating system locales listed in the output. OnLinux, shorter Locale lames then those listed in the output may besufficient; see SAP Note 187864.

Known Problems

o Runtime Error "WRITE_TO_OFFSET_TOOLARGE"

This problem occurs when trying to configure a Unicode system withmore than 60 languages. Accordingly, we have extended the maximumnumber of languages allowed in a Unicode system to 200.

The problem can be corrected by applying:

- SAP_BASIS 700 SP15 or SAP_BASIS 710 SP 6 and

- New version of R3trans -> SAP Note 80727 Transportingnon-LATIN-1 texts

o Country code 'HK' does not appear in the country code selectioneven when language is selected.

This problem occurs when following conditions meet:

- System: SAP_BASIS 700 SP7 or lower

- Configuration: Non-Unicode system

The problem can be corrected by applying:

- SAP_BASIS 700 SP8 or Correction Instruction 470375

o Error message "Error retrieving component information" (RIN42)

This problem occurs when following conditions meet:

- System: SAP_BASIS 640 SP13 or lower SAP_BASIS 700 SP04 or lower

- Configuration: MDMP

- Components: SAP_BW exists but not active

This behavior can be corrected by applying:

- SAP_BASIS 640 SP14 or Correction Instruction 744001

- SAP_BASIS 700 SP05 or Correction Instruction 749692

o Error when configuring MDMP system with SAP_BASIS 620 SP54

This problem occurs with SAP_BASIS 620 SP54. Configuring a non-MDMPsystem to an MDMP system is not allowed in RSCPINST. For SAP_BASIS620, this restriction should be a warning instead of an error.

Page 6: Note 42305 - RSCPINST (I18N Configuration Tool)

24.04.2012 Page 6 of 13

SAP Note 42305 - RSCPINST (I18N configuration tool)

This behavior can be corrected by applying SAP_BASIS 620 SP55.

o 'Latin-1 or MDMP' is not available from the country list

This problem occurs between SAP_BASIS 620 SP29 - 32 and when logonlanguage is not 'EN'. As a workaround, please logon as 'EN' andproceed regularly. The fix is included in SAP_BASIS 620 SP33.

o HR Message SF 603 "Object not found" or Transaction SE92 MSG 00 629"Language environment cannot be..."

This is due to a malfunction of FM SCP_LANGUAGES_IN_INSTANCE whentable TCPDB is empty. Perform the following steps in order to filltable TCPDB:

1. Verify that table TCPDB in your system is empty. If not, createa OSS message on component BC-I18 describing your situation.

2. Write down the current contents of table TCP0D in your system.

3. Run report RSCPINST, verify that your required languages arelisted in the upper left hand list, enter the current contents oftable TCP0D in the upper right hand "Step 2" list.

4. Press "Activate". This will add appropriate entries to tableTCPDB. When TCPDB is empty you get Syslog message CP9 at systemstartup time. Please fill table TCPDB in this case as describedabove.

o Error message, 'TCP0C database is not consistent! Note 73606' for46C

When above error message issued and RSCPINST aborts on 46C system, please apply the correction instruction (370453).

Additional Information

o Emergency operation (R/3 kernel cannot be started)

1. Set the profile parameter "zcsa/system_language = E"

2. Make sure that English is installed on the operating system

3. Start the kernel

o Content of field DBLANGU of table TCP0D

The field DBLANGU of table TCP0D is always filled with entry 'E'.

o Unicode configuration for 620 SP28 or lower

1. Execute Report RSCPINST.

2. Popup will ask you if you want to setup a Unicode configurationor tell you the setup is already ready for Unicode.

3. In transaction SE16, maintain TCP0I table to ensure all requiredlanguages are included:

- NAME = processed_languages

- ACTIVE = X

- TIMESTMP = <yyyymmddhhmmss>

- VALUE = <languages in 1 character representation. Casesensitive!>

For the ACTIVE field, please make sure that there is only one entrywhich is marked with 'X' by deleting an old entry which was with'X'.

4. < For SAP_BASIS releases lower than 620 SP26 >

Clear the Code page Converter Cache (CCC) by following stepsbelow:

- Transaction SNL1 > set the "Operating Mode" to "Set"

- From the menu, select "Character Sets" > "General ConversionProgram (CCC)" > "Invalidate CCC"

o For Basis Release 4.6C or lower

It is required to select a country by highlighting it from thecountry list and push "Choose selected country" button. This actionis required to register the correct country code.
