FEDERAL PROGRAMS • SBA (Small Business Administration) 7 (a) This is a loan

program; funds can be used for any business purpose. The borrower begins the process at any bank, and negotiates rate and term. The SBA guarantees a portion (typically 75%) of the loan, so this is most useful in borderline cases, or to negotiate a better rate.

• Additional details: applicant must be a for-profit business; the maximum business size for SBA loans is determined by annual sales or # of employees, depending on NAICS/SIC Code.

• Contact: Local banks

STATE PROGRAMS State of Ohio Treasurer’s Grow Now Maximum loan amount is $400,000: • One job must be created or retained per each $50,000

borrowed. The borrower begins the process at any participating bank and negotiates the rate and term. The bank then approaches the State; if approved, the State deposits a like amount in the bank. Interest rates to the borrower are reduced by up to three percentage points (depends on the original rate) vs. the original rate, for two years. There is an opportunity for renewal beyond two years.

REGIONAL OHIO 166 • Application is made both to the company’s bank and to Growth Capital

Corp. (GCC) our area’s Certified Development Company. The bank provides 60% of the project costs, at rate and term negotiated by the borrower. The State of Ohio/GCC provides 30% of the project costs, typically at 3% rate, and a term to match the bank – up to ten years for machinery and equipment and 15 years for real estate. The owner provides a 10% equity contribution to the project. Loan sizes can range from $25,000 to $500,000; larger loans proceed directly to the State via the Direct 166 Program, where loan size is capped at $1.5 million.
