District Mission Statement:

"The mission of the North Scott Community School District, a unique blend of rural and metropolitan opportunities, is to produce graduates with the capacity to be successful in a changing world, by incorporating abundant resources and offering a broad-based curriculum in a respectful, safe environment."

Masterplan Process:

The North Scott Community School District is currently faced with several challenges. With continued growth of community populations, there is need for expansion or redirection of the current district facilities. The Masterplanning process has included input of District administration, building administrators, staff and school board. It was determined that Long Term growth would consist of building need in a period of ten or more years from present day. The focus group took on the challenge of reviewing current and future needs for long term growth. Through review of the needs assessment results and comments, this group structured a document that would consider all of the long term requirements for each school facility. This was treated as a “wish” list for the school facilities. In addition, the existing school facilities and property were tabulated for analysis. “Wish” list need includes both building spaces and outdoor spaces or concerns.

Senior High School

•Currently Grades 9-12•Constructed 1957•Numerous expansion, renovation, and remodeling projects•Building Population 967 students•206,000 square feet in size

Junior High School

•Currently Grades 7-8•Ed White sixth graders currently in this building•Constructed 1974•Expanded in 200 and 2008•Building Population 450 students•104,000 square feet in size




Ed White Elementary

•Currently Grades K-5, serving Eldridge•White sixth graders currently at Junior High School•Constructed 1966•Numerous expansion, renovation, and remodeling projects•Building Population 458 students•44,500 square feet in size

John Glenn Elementary

•Currently Grades K-6, serving Donahue and portion of Eldridge•Glenn houses preschool programs for the District•Constructed 1966•Numerous expansion, renovation, and remodeling projects•Building Population 233 students•30,700 square feet in size




Alan Shepard Elementary

•Currently Grades K-6, serving Long Grove and a portion of Eldridge•Shepard houses state based 4-yr old preschool program•Constructed 1966•Numerous expansion, renovation, and remodeling projects•Building Population 310 students•43,700 square feet in size

Neil Armstrong Elementary

Masterplanning Goal:

•Plan for all facilities for use throughout the entire school district. •Masterplan to serve as Blueprint for facilities for next 10-15 years.



Long Term and Short Term Goals:

•Attract and accommodate population.•Elementary sites as community center. These buildings will have continued changing use.•Update the exterior appearance of facilities. Improve aesthetic of public appearance.•Update technology in all facilities.•Provide opportunities for multiple activities.•Educational facilities to adapt with changes in curriculum, technology, pathways, etc.•Desire to provide best educational space possible.•Desire to be environmentally friendly.



Programmatic Needs of Facilities:

•Safe planning of parking and access considerations (traffic flow). Separation of cars, busses and pedestrians for safety on site.

•Green space: Maintain or provide adequate green space for aesthetic as well ascurriculum based needs.

•Provision for adequate technology. Buildings and rooms shall be capable of housing the needed technology which is required by the changing curriculum.•Improve the appearance of each building and the district for visitors. Improved entrances

and exteriors. Possibly clean up or modify the area between the District Administration and the Senior High School.•Accessibility at all facilities within the district.•Rooms to allow easier implementation of co-teaching and interactivity. Adjoining doors or proximity of classroom doors to be considered.

•These facilities potentially to serve as three section buildings.•All purpose room - Flexible space to be used for educational, meeting and other group functions. Possible to serve as cafeteria for these buildings.•Staff work/conference space - Provision for a meeting and work/task area for teachers and

staff within each building.•Media center - Library collections are reducing, and technology is becoming integral to the classrooms. Media center to adapt with changes. Media Center to have more prominent location within buildings, easy access from main entrance.•Adequate parking, safety of building access.
