One of the most remarkable firms that exited the mobile device market was Nokia. In September 2013, Microsoft acquired Nokias mobile device business, as well as patents and brands (Lumia and Asha). According to Anssi Vanjoki (former Nokia executive), the Microsoft deal was inevitable due to the failed strategy of Stephen Elop (current CEO). In October 2014 Nokia name on smartphones was replaced by Microsoft Mobile. In February 2011 a major business partnership was announced between those companies, where Nokia adopted Windows Phone as its primary platform on future smartphones. Following the announcement of the partnership, Nokias share fell 20% and market value 75% since 2007. At that time, problems were evident, given that Nokia continues to show no signs of recovery in the US market. High investments, high expectation; however, low results.Nowadays, this old juggernaut of mobile market has purchased Alcatel-Lucent (French telecommunications Equipment Company) in order to create a stronger competitor to Ericsson and Huawei.Another remarkable company which does not exit the market but had its revenue drastically reduced is Black Berry. Originally, this company was known by being innovative in corporate and governmental smartphones, in 2010, it dominated 43% of this area. Besides the smartphones, the company has their own Operational System, exclusive for their devices. With the growing of companies such as Apple and Samsung, Black Berry lost its space and market (nowadays approximately 4%) and its market value is basically their patents.Analyzing this merge, it was very beneficent to Microsoft. It has given to them knowledge and experience from one of the biggest companies in that field. They assume the control of all the product, hardware and software (Windows Phone).Microsoft Corporation is one of the biggest companies in the world, and it is impossible if they do not be innovative. First of all, Microsoft was founded by Bill Gates and Paul Allen on April 4, 40 years ago; at a time when of technology (computers) were not popular as they are today. In other words, they have been innovative since the beginning. The flagship product is the most used operation system worldwide: Windows, an efficient OS which reached almost all personal computers.
