YUP...it’s headlice seasonin schools. Every year at thistime, we hear about cases in publicschools & preschools. Please checkyour child’s head regularly, andremember not to share hats or combs. Believe it or not...headlice can happento anyone in anyplace. My first caseoccured in a waiting room in ahospital. No fun...so be agressiveabout prevention & treatment. Someover the counter med shampoosworked in the past, but I think docsare recommending dosing hair witholive oil & covering with shower capovernight. If you’re wondering whatto do, please call the city countyhealth office for more up-to-date info. Also, use the nit comb, as it removesthe eggs to prevent re-infestation. Not my favorite thing to report, but
gotta say it...so you’re warned!(PS...headlice has nothing to dowith cleanliness...just contact withthe lice at some point.)

Super TIE DYE Saturday review:
Mrs. Lien & Mrs. Schoenknecht welcomed approx 30 guests fortie dye fun on Oct 2nd. Many additional shirts were tie dyed bythe participants for TLC’s Mission Jamaica trip in the spring. Iheard the colors of the rainbow were beautiful...and differentkinds of clothes were tie dyed. Ella B was very interested inlearning about this mission project on tie dying Saturday, and hassome good ideas to start working on before the mission trip inMarch. I hope she keeps us posted!
Here’s what some of the Noah’s Ark children
have been saying:
“If God asked you to build a boat, what would you say?”One childsaid, “I’d be delighted to!” Another said,“No...it would be too hard!”
“Have a dream about it once in yourlife!”...a comment to a teacher to help herfigure something out
“That’s not an apple, it’s a pumpkin!”...acomment about one of the cut out papersfor painting made by a teacher
“Can you figure it out?”...a question from one child to another
“Holy moly...that’s a BIG potato!”...a great observation
“We’re getting ready for the wedding party...and I’ve got themusic!”...a playtime comment
“I have dried apples...they’re ‘hy-de-drated’!
“I just peed in my pants!”
“It’s clean-up time, Mrs. Knickerbocker! Just so you know!”
“My Grandma would be so proud of me!”
“There’s yucky stuff on the wet paint cart and I don’t want mypicture to get yucky!”
The EauClaire LEPhillipsPublic Library
visits Noah’s Ark on the secondWednesday morning of eachmonth. During their visit, theyshare story time with the M-W-Fam group, and also bring a bin ofgreat materials all the teachers usethroughout the month. Mrs. Lien& Ms. “C” also share any newbooks/finger plays with the otherclasses. It’s great to have themcome! We appreciate ShellyCollins-Fuerbringer & her team oflibrarians. (I’ve also heard thatAltoona has an awesome libraryfrom a special friend, Taylor!)
Recently at our staffdevotions &planning on aTuesday morning,we were remindedof the 8th
Commandment(You shall not bearfalse witnessagainst yourneighbor... you must not tell liesabout your neighbor.) I’ve beenthinking about it’s meaning in my life. It’s easy to quickly pass judgement &thinking unkindly sometimes, butmuch harder to remember to “speakwell of others & explain the actionsof others in the kindest ways”. Jesusalso said, “Love your neighbor asyourself.” Good words for all of us asthe heated debates fire up this season
& into the next year! My daily devoalso reminded me to pray for eachother in all ways.

loveandlogic.com From an on-line July excerpt:
“Teaching kids to follow directions!” (By Dr. Charles Fay)When you’re asking your children to do things for you, do you ever feel like you’re
talking to a cat? I love my cats, even though they never listen to a thing I say.
Fortunately, children, unlike cats, respond well to the following strategies:
i When asking your child to do something, don’t forget to say “Please.” Since
want our children to use this magic word, doesn’t it make sense that we model
it’s use?
i Get close to them and use a pleasant, calm voice. Few people respond
favorable to being hollered at from across the room. Besides, do I want to train
my kids to need yelling at, or would it be better if I taught them to respond to a
calmer, quieter tone?
i Ahead of time, have a plan for how you’ll respond to noncompliance or
defiance. If they refuse to comply, or they dawdle about, reply, “I love you too
much to fight with you about doing this. I’m going to have to do something.
We’ll talk about this later.” Delay the consequences so you don’t have yourself
in an unwinnable power-struggle.
i Resist the urge to threaten, lecture, or give repeated warnings. This is a
tough tip for most of us! Just remember that when we use threats, lectures, and
repeated warnings, we train our kids to need threats, lectures, and repeated
warnings.
i Allow empathy & consequences to do the teaching. On Loveandlogic DVD
about “Simple Parenting Strategies”, it talks about applying appropriate
consequences when it’s tough to think of them....& how to replace energy
drained from you by their noncompliance. Good stuff!!!
