Congrat- ulations to Holy Cross on celebrat- ing its 118th birthday on Saturday14th September. Celebrations this year were in the form of our annual Holy Cross Spring Fair! What a wonderful fun -filled day was had by all! No. 06: 2013 21 September HOLY CROSS PRIMARY SCHOOL From the Editor’s Desk- It’s that time of the term when the teachers heads are down and reports are being written as I write this editorial. For the learners though, they have all breathed a sigh of relief as the tests and projects are well and truly over! I am sure everyone enjoyed a wonderful time at this year’s Spring fair. We thank the Lord that the weather held and everyone could get on with the job of having lots of fun! A very big thank you to the FRC, the extended Holy Cross family and staff who gave up their time to set up, serve that day at the various stalls and to clean up once the closing time came around. It was a great team effort to make the day a great success. Thanks also go to all of you who came out in support of us on this special day. A busy academic, cul- tural and sporting term is finally at a close. Have a wonderful holiday! Please read the Communicator for the most updated sporting results. Remember to book a table through Reception for the 4th Term fundraiser, the Wine Auction, Dinner and Dance on the Friday 25th October! Catherine Rutter Grade 4 Outing– Both classes went on sepa- rate days to Redberry Farm to discover more about the strawberry and the farming thereof. We were greeted warmly by Jonathan who quizzed the children on what they might know and then filled in the gaps with some very interesting facts! One fact that seems to have been remembered the most, after reading the thank you letters the children wrote on their return to school was, “Did you know that no matter the size of a strawberry, everyone of them has 200 seeds on them?” After that, off we went to pick our very own strawberries. Delicious were the comments about them once they were eaten! Then it was time for play and a break before entering the Maze! After what felt like going around in circles for many and getting lost often, being frightened in the Tunnel of Doom, most groups located all 7 stamps! What an awesome out- ing were the shouts! Best ever! A very big thank you to Mrs Askew and Mr Puttick as well as parents who helped with the outings! It was thoroughly enjoyed by all! Mrs. Jane Askew The third term has come to an end and a very busy term it has been in all are- as. I cannot believe how this term has flown by and ¾ of the year is over. From the Eisteddfod, sport, Golf Day, Spring flower arranging and our Spring Fair, life has been extremely hec- c for everyone. On that busy note I’d like to add a very big thank you to all who were involved in making the Spring Fair such a wonderful family day oung as well as being a successful fundraiser this term! Congratulaons to the children who have excelled this term. We are so proud of you! Thank you to the staff and coaches for their commitment and dedicaon and thank you to you, our parent community, for always supporng all we do. Please keep the Fuchs family in your prayers as they face an extremely diffi- cult and painful me in their lives. I would like to remind you that the budget meeng takes place on 31 October 2013 and urge you to please make every effort to aend this important meeng. A leer regarding this meeng is enclosed in the report envelope and the reply slip must be returned with your child’s report on the first day next term. Enjoy a short, but welcome break with your children. God bless you all. Healthy eating includes healthy drinking. How about buying in your fruit to make your children a good dose of homemade berry juice or a fruit smoothie. As summer approaches homemade fruit smoothie popsicles are also a hit with children! Just one of these popsicles is a super mega dose of vitamin C. I love that. There is also plenty of fibre, and other nutrients like magnesium, potassium and manganese. As they support us, please support Golden Harvest for all your fruit and vegetable needs! Never run out of electricity again! Derby Day vs Oakhill– A big thank you to all the girls and boys who participated with such enthusiasm in

Hockey, Netball and Rugby on such a cold, blustery

Saturday! There were many successes and wonderful

team sportsmanship was noticed! Congratulations go

especially to the 5 Netball teams who all won their

matches that day! Thanks go to the parents who came

    out to support our children!

Holy Cross Golf Day was a great success both socially and financially and we were blessed with perfect

weather. Our thanks to Mr Davie Cronje and

his committee for a well-organised event, fan-

tastic prize table and good food! We thank the

many present parents and friends of our school

for their support. All funds raised will be for

    the benefit of our children.

    Grade 3 Forest Walk

On Friday our class went on an

outing to the Kingfisher trail. We all heard

about what trees make when they are broken down. I saw a tree that had been ring barked and I saw quite a few alien trees.

    (Nina)

We went on our forest walk with Mr Puttick and Mrs Askew. Miss

Fuller couldn’t come because she was on crutches. When we got on the bus we

were all very excited. We got there and started walking across a bridge made of rocks. Then we crossed under a canopy of trees. (Antonia)

When we got to the forest, we started the walk and we walked under

tall bushes and Mr. Puttick told us about why the water is brown. I heard a lot of

    birds. (John M.)

Speech and Drama-The George Eisteddfod has come and

gone and Holy Cross has once again proven that they are a

talented group of individuals. A total of 69 learners participat-

ed in various categories of the speech and drama section of the

George Loerie Eisteddfod this year. Out of the 57 individual

and group items which were performed, the Holy Cross learn-

    ers achieved the following results: 2 A++’s, 20 A+’s, 23 A’s

and 12 B+’s. We thank our senior school Speech and Drama

teacher, Mrs Peck, for all the effort she put into helping our

learners during this time, Along with the time spent with Mrs

Peck, all of the learners put in many hours of hard work and

their results indeed reflect their persistent

effort and dedication. We are proud of all the

learners who participated and thank them for

representing our school with such enthusiasm

and professionalism. Well done to you all .
