PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

Dear Parents and Staff This morning our Year 3 to 6 classes celebrated Mass for All Saints Day along with the upperclasses of children from St Maria Goretti’s school. The Gospel from Matthew was taken fromthe Sermon on the Mount and the Beatitudes. I like to adopt a small play on words and ratherthan the Beatitudes, which give us a guide as to how we should live our lives, I like to seethem as the Be Attitudes, which call us to action not merely words and thoughts.

Blessed are the poor in spirit,

for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn,

for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek,

for they will inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,

for they will be lled. Blessed are the merciful,

for they will be shown mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart,

for they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers,

for they will be called children of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,

for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.(Matthew 5: 3-10)

SOCIAL MEDIAMany of the Year levels have established Facebook pages through the P&F to shareinformation that may assist parents in ensuring that they are aware of school events andissues such as lost uniform etc. It has come to my attention that some of these pages havebeen used by parents to vent about situations that occur at school. This is unhelpful and onlycauses unnecessary angst rather than addressing the concern. Should parents have issues orconcerns regarding the happenings at school these are best addressed by contacting eitherme or one of the other members of our school Leadership Team. SCHOOL BOARD AND P&F AGMsThese will be held on Tuesday 27 November commencing at 6.00pm. Details regarding P&Fpositions are in their section of the newsletter. We are seeking nominations from members of our School community to ll ve vacancies toserve on the School Board for a two-year term commencing in 2019. Two current members ofthe Board are nominating for re-election. Criteria for membership of the Board is:· possession of special skills that will be an asset to the Board;· a deep interest in the welfare of all students and staff;· a desire to give service to the Catholic School Community;· a keenness to promote Catholic schooling;· an ability to work cooperatively and constructively with all other members of the Board; and· a suciency of time to devote to Board duties. Nominations should be on the form which follows this article and be handed to the schooloce by no later than Friday 16 November 2018.Please contact me if you would like clarication of the duties of Board membership.

INTERSCHOOL ATHLETICSLast week, students from Notre Dame represented the school at the annual Field and TrackAthletic carnivals held at Gerry Archer over two days (Tuesday & Thursday) The year 4-6students participated in the eld events on Tuesday with the year 1-6 students participating inthe track and team game carnivals on Thursday. The senior year groups had the school wellplaced in 3rd position with some great individual performances in the Turbo Jav and Shot putevents. It was great to see the Year 1 participate in their rst Interschool Athletics Carnival, with some fantastic running performances across the year group. The big improvement forNotre Dame was in our team games, with consistent top places throughout the year group, which has been a goal on improving from last year. I would like to congratulate the Year 6leaders over the two days for the way they fought it out in each race, team game and assistingthe junior groups in preparation for their races and relays. Notre Dame nished up in 6th placeoverall, with some very athletic and impressive runners from the other schools proving just abit too strong for us this year. St Joseph’s led from Tuesday to the end of the Thursdaycarnival and were deserved winners. Many thanks to all the teachers, EA and parents whoassisted with training over the last couple of weeks. I’d also like to thank Mrs Gilmour, MrsDavidson, Mrs Tomasini, Mrs Sheehan, Mrs Lawrie, Miss Rognetta and Mr Tyrell for theirassistance helping out on the two carnivals. We look forward to next year's challenge andimproving on the foundations set by our junior year groups.

Do you know why it's important to set boundaries for your kids and tell them no? Dr VanessaLapointe explains this in an excellent analogy.

This is such a great analogy from Dr Vanessa Lapointe, R Psychon why it's important to set boundaries with your kids and sayno!

Vaneesa_Setting Limits_Bri… apac01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com

We can all be prone to negative thinking, and children are no exception with their often blackand white perspective on things. If a child struggles or fails at something it can lead to blanketstatements like: "I'm dumb", "I can't do anything right", "I'm a failure". Here are some tips onhow to respond to your child's negative self-talk.
