IamexcitedtopresentthefirstannualreportforNewLifeChristianSchool.Theannualreportlooksbackonthepastyear,butalsodemonstratestheworkyettobedone.BytakingtimetoreflectonourABCs(Accomplishments,BlessingsandChallenges),wegainapictureoftheworkaccomplished,seetheblessingsofGodandconfrontourchallenges.Whenall3oftheseitemsarereviewedtogether,ithelpsustocelebrateoursuccesses,whilecreatingaplanfor improvement.

For30years,manypeoplehavededicatedtheirtimeandresourcestobuildaschool that prepares our students for college and career; while instilling in them an integration of the Christian faith and learning. Faith and learning go hand in handandgivesourstudentsabasisonwhichtoevaluateinformationandmakedecisions. Our teachers are daily models as they demonstrate a joy for learning andadedicationforseekingTruth.

Weasteachersandstaff,guidedbytheBoardofEducationarecommittedtothevaluesandtothemissionofNewLifeChristianSchool.Wearealsocommittedtotheworkaheadtomakeimprovementstoouracademicprogram,spirituallifeandphysical facilities. Our desire is to equip our students to be Christian leaders who can impact the world for Christ. I invite you tojoinusthroughprayerandfinancialpartnershipaswelooktothefuture.

SinceNLCSfirstopeneditsdoorsin1983,thechallengehasbeentoprovideaquality,Christ-centerededucationwhilebeingfinanciallyresponsible.Throughtuitionsandregistration,aswellasfinancialsupportofRandallsvilleNewLifeChurch,otherchurchesandindividuals,wehaveerasedtheprojected$30,000deficitforthe2013-2014schoolyear.

Currently,tuitionsandregistrationfeesonlycover61%ofouroperatingexpenses.Therestofouroperatingexpensescome from individual and church donations. We are blessed to have generous supporters. The long-term goal is to identify additionaldonors,corporatesponsorsandotherstreamsofincome,whileincreasingenrollment.

The generosity of the NLCS community plays an important part in continuing the mission to ensure a Christ-centered education for ourstudents.Duringthe2013-2014schoolyearwereceivedmanygenerous donations from individuals and churches. Through these donations,NLCSwasabletomeetitsbudget.

Westrivetokeepourtuitionatanaffordablelevel,andwedonotturnanyfamilyawayduetofinances.Tocontinuethispositionwefaceafinancialgapbetweentuitionincomeandouroperatingbudget.

Westartedthe2013-2014schoolyearwitha$30,000deficit.Ninety-threepercentofouroperatingexpensesgotowardsteachersalaries.Wefeltthatcuttingadditionalstaffmemberswouldadverselyaffectourstudentsandtheirabilitytolearn.SowetrustedGodtoprovidethedifference.Throughtwogenerousdonationsof$25,000and$5,000,thebudgetdeficitwasmet.WearethankfultoGodforhisprovision.We have witnessed this type of provision throughout the 30 years of operating the school.

Forthepast13years,golfersandnon-golfersalikehaveenjoyedourfun,well-managedgolftournament.Duringthese13years,over$103,311hasbeenraisedtosupportNLCS.

Thispastyear56golfersparticipated,andthankstoourcorporatesponsors,flagandteesponsorsandindividuals,$6843was raised to support NLCS.

WewanttothankMarjorieMoxleywhohasbeenoureventcoordinatorforthepast4years.Startingthisyear,alumnusandBOE member Stephanie Barnes will be coordinating the event thatwilltakeplaceAugust23rdatBarkerBrookGolfCourse.

Truetoitsname,operationImpactismakinganimpact at our school and in the community. as the largestfundraiserforNLCS,operationImpacthasraisedover$59,000thelast3years.

Throughthisevent,ourstudents,teachersandparentstakeoneschooldaytoservedifferentindividuals and organizations within our community. ourstudentsfindjoyinservingothersandsharingthe love of Christ. The report we hear from those we serve is that our students are so helpful and very hardworkers.

The majority of the planning for Operation Impact comes from parents who dedicate their time to createafunandeffectivecampaign.Thankyouto the parents who generously give their time and talents to direct this event.

NLCSstrivestoeducateourstudentstobepreparednotonlyforlife,butforcollegeandcareer.ourhopeistoinstillinourstudentsaloveoflearningandskillsforlifethatreflectChristtothosearoundthem.AstheBoardofEducationandteachershavereviewedtheprosandconsofthecommoncore,weseethebenefitsandthepitfallsofthestandards.

TheCommonCoreStateStandards(CCSS)identifywhatstudentsshouldbelearningateachgradelevel.Theyareasetofstandards,andnotacurriculum.BecauseNLCSincorporatesaBiblicalWorldviewintoouracademicprogram,NLCScouldnotandshouldnotadopttheCCSSasasinglesourceforinstructionalstandards.However,thestandardsmustbeconsidered,alongwithNewYorkStatestandards.ourteachersneedtoknowwhattheCCSSare,alongwiththeNewYorkStatestandardsbecauseourstudentsparticipateinNewYorkRegentsexams.Additionally,standardizedtestsforcollegeentrancearebeginningtoreflecttheCCSS.

AstheBoardofEducationandtheteachersevaluatedourcurrentcurriculumagainsttheCCSS,weconfirmedthatinmanyareas,ourstandardsareequaltoorexceedthoseoutlinedintheCommonCore.WearealsointheprocessofcomparingourcurriculumtotheNewYorkStateStandards.ItisourbeliefthattheCCSSandNewYorkStateStandardsshouldbetheminimumstandards,whilemaintainingourcommitmenttoourmostimportantresource,theWordofGod.TheBoardofEducation,PrincipalandtheStudentDevelopmentTeamcontinuetoworktostrengthenourcurriculumtomakesureourstudentsarewellpreparedastheyleaveNLCS.

TEST SCOrESEachyearstudentsinKindergartenthrough8thgradetaketheStanfordAchievementTestandour9-12thgradestudentstakethestateregentsexams.Thesetestsprovideavalidandreliabletoolneeded to objectively measure the achievement of our students. The following charts display our 5-year results in total math and reading fortheK-8thgradeStanfordscoresandthescoresfromtheJune2013regentsexams.

Throughthisdata,wecanbegintoaddressareasofweaknessinouracademicprogramandcelebratetheareaswhereweareexcelling.TheBoardofEducation,teachersandstrategicactionteamsareanalyzing this data to create an action plan for improvement.

Planningandcarryingoutthefirststrategicplanoftheschoolisalargetask,butonethatisestablishedandmovingforward.

SincethelaunchofthestrategicplaninSeptember,Godishonoringthehardworkofouractionteams.Theyarelayingastronggroundworkandfoundationtobuildupon.Whiletheresultsoftheplanmaynotbeeasilyobservedatthispoint,thereisextensiveworkbeingaccomplished.Justafewhighlights:•GrantthroughNewYorkStateEducationDepartmenttoaddresssecurityatschool.•Developmentofacomprehensivemarketingplan.•DevelopmentofourexpandedInternationalStudentProgram.•Writtenteacher/stafforientationprogram.•GuidelinesforthePAGE(ParentActionGroupforExcellence),which will be a parent-led group to support our teachers and classrooms.•Giftacceptancepolicyandverificationofour501(c)(3)statuswhichconfirmsourabilitytoacceptlargerdonationstotheschool.

Many improvement plans are already underway for the 2014-2015 school year. here are a few of the highlights:•Additionalcourseofferingsthatincludedualenrollment for college courses and more elective choices.•Anewteacher/stafforientationplanwillbeimplementedinthefall.Throughthisorientation,ourteachersandstaff will be better prepared for the start of the school year.•TheParentActionGroupforExcellence(PAGE)isbeing formed. This group will be comprised of parents with the intent of supporting our teachers and classrooms.•AwrittencomprehensivefundraisingplanthroughMr. Slabaugh’s partnership with the Van Lunen Center for ExecutiveManagement.•Addressmathandsciencescoresinthemiddleandhighschools.
