Dear Parents and Carers
SAVE THE DATE…
Raising Your Child in a Digital World Tuesday 24th October 7pm At Rose Bay Public School
A parent presentation by Dr Kristy Goodwin, designed to give parents practical strategies to support your child in navigating a digital world.
Kristy dispels the myths and misinformation about how technology is shaping childhood and you’ll learn about the seven essential components that kids need to thrive both online and offline.
Kristy will be coming to Rose Bay Public School on Tuesday 24th October 2017. The talk will commence at 7pm in the school hall. There will be student sessions during the day for Years 5 & 6.
Tickets for the evening session are $10 and available through Flexischools.
Tell Them From Me – Parent Feedback Survey
This term, our school will be participating in the “Partners in Learning” parent survey, another part of the Tell Them From Me suite of surveys (student, teacher and parent surveys) on student engagement. The survey asks parents and carers questions about different factors that are known to impact on student wellbeing and engagement. Running this survey will help our school understand parents’ and carers’ perspectives on their child’s experience at school. These include: communication between parents/carers and staff, activities and practices at home and parent/carer views on the school's support of learning and behaviour. This valuable feedback will help our school make practical improvements. The survey is conducted entirely online on smartphones, ipads, tablets, laptops or computers. The survey will typically take 15 minutes or less to complete and is completely confidential. The parent survey will be conducted between 21st August and 13th October. Although participating in the survey is entirely voluntary, your responses are very much appreciated. To access the survey go to: https://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/rbps17

NETBALL
Our PSSA Netball teams had another successful season this year, with all four teams finishing in the top four of their
competitions. Senior A's, Senior B's and Junior B's unfortunately all lost narrowly in tough semi-final games. However, the Junior A team won their semi-final convincingly, 21-11,
progressing through to the final which was held last Friday. They put up a great fight against Double Bay, losing by only 4
goals. The girls are to be commended on their outstanding sportsmanship throughout the season. Congratulations to all
teams on the way they represented the school.
RUGBY
All PSSA Rugby teams represented RBPS with pride, playing extremely well throughout the season. The 8/9’s team, 10’s and Senior team all won games throughout the season, but unfortunately lost a few
games which meant all finishing outside the top 4 in their division. Well done to all players on a fantastic effort.
PSSA REPORT
AFL Junior and Senior PSSA AFL teams had a
successful winter season. Both teams narrowly missed out on the finals, but experienced many wins throughout the season. They have worked
hard to develop their skills, teamwork and sportsmanship whilst demonstrating enjoyment
for the game. All team members should be proud of their achievements.
GIRLS SOCCER Congratulations to all students who represented
RBPS in PSSA Girls Soccer. Both the Junior and Senior teams had a great season, playing against some very competitive teams. The
Junior team finished 6th on the ladder while the Senior team placed 3rd. The girls are to
commended on their outstanding sportsmanship and commitment throughout the
season. Well done to all players.
MIXED SOCCER It was another exciting year for PSSA mixed soccer with
students demonstrating athleticism, teamwork and sportsmanship. The Junior and Senior A’s managed to finish
within the top four, placing them in the championship group. The Senior A's gave it their all playing the best game as their
final game, placing fourth. The Junior A's came in a very close second, with only a few goals separating first and
second. Our Junior and Senior B’s also had a great season, developing their skills and teamwork throughout but unfortunately missing out on the top four in a tough
competition. Well done to all boys who showed commitment to each game and training session, leadership skills and team
spirit throughout the entire season.

Raising Your Child in a Digital World ESSENTIAL INFORMATION FOR PRIMARY PARENTS
Today’s kids are growing up immersed in a world of screens.
As parents we’ve been faced with the enormous task of raising ‘screenagers’. We’re bamboozled by the confusing and often conflicting information about how technology is impacting on kids’ health, learning and wellbeing. Yet we know that our kids will inherit a digital world, so banning or avoiding screens isn’t the solution!
Children’s digital wellness expert (and mum!) Dr Kristy Goodwin helps parents find the best ways to use technology to support, not stifle kids’ health, learning and development. She arms parents with facts, not fears, about what today’s kids (0-15 years) really need to thrive online and offline in a digital world.
In this practical seminar
Dr Kristy arms parents with:
// Guidance about how much screen-time is healthy and simple tips for managing screens at home (so screen-time doesn’t end in scream time & you won’t have to endure techno-tantrums!);
// Reasons why screens captivate our kids and can hijack their attention (there’s a neuroscientific reason) and simple strategies to prevent techno-tantrums;
// Facts, not fears, about how technology is changing the ways kids learn and develop (including their sleep, attention spans and relationships, physical health and development);
// Practical ideas about how families can use technology in healthy and helpful ways at home (so you can ditch the guilt and guesswork for good!).
// Practical ideas about healthy media habits (to protect your kids’ sleep habits, vision, hearing, posture and attention spans).
// Solutions to your ‘digital dilemmas’. There will be opportunity to ask Dr Kristy your pressing questions and concerns about your child’s technology habits.

STEWART HOUSE NEWS
Thank you Rose Bay!
Students wore mufti and donated a gold coin to celebrate the opening of Art by the Bay 2017- ‘Taking Shape’. Students looked wonderful in their patterns, stripes and spots. Well Done Rose Bay! $650 was raised for Stewart House.
Collection Bags! Donation bags for Stewart House have been sent home. This is a great opportunity to clear out the wardrobe and contribute to a great cause at the same time. Every year Stewart House benefits financially from collections of clothing in schools. The Smith Family generously provides bags, undertakes the collection and pays Stewart House for each kilogram received. Please return your bag to the school hall by Friday 15th September.
Thank you for your support.
