TERM TWO APRIL 2012 ISSUE SIX Nhulunbuy Christian College News An ANZAC reflec+on from our Y3 Teacher, Mrs Moya Dunlop. “With this being ANZAC week and the virtue of HONOUR and HONOURABLE being used to describe the many courageous men and women who have been involved in military campaigns, it’s Gmely to reflect on the definiGon of the word. What is Honour? Honour is living with a sense of respect for what you believe is right. It is living by the virtues, showing great respect for yourself, other people, and the rules you live by. When you are honourable, you don’t have to feel ashamed of who you are or what you are doing. You are worthy of respect. You set a good example. When someone is honourable, other people trust them to do what is right. Their word of honour means they will do exactly what they promise. People respect and look up to someone who is honourable. When you act with honour, you do the right thing regardless of what others are doing. Honour is, therefore, the exact opposite of thoughtlessness and neglect. It conveys a sense of enormous importance. It is an expression of value and worth. You honour your elders by speaking respecPully to them You honour yourself by being your best; pracGsing your virtues every day. When you act with honour, you set a good example, not to be admired, but just because it is the right thing to do. You pracGse honour when you Keep your word Respect rules you want to live by Do what you believe is right no maUer what Set a good example for others Avoid doing things which make you feel ashamed “If you keep yourself pure, you will be a special utensil for honorable use. Your life will be clean, and you will be ready for the Master to use you for every good work”. Timothy 2:21 (New Living TranslaGon). School Captains Alicia Wong and William Stockley on ANZAC day

Yet another sad farewell for NCC! We are sorry to be losing Mrs Woody and family to PNG. We shall miss her endless enthusiasm, her straight-talking/no nonsense approach and wonderful smile. We wish them every blessing as they embark on their new adventure!

We are a British Christian family - now

proudly Australian - serving God in Gove

with Mission Aviation Fellowship. Hubby

I have worked at NCC in Transition as a

Teacher Aide and as Library Tech since

mid 2007 and loved every minute of it. The warmth of a Christian work

environment is very special. As a

registered nurse, usually working in a busy, understaffed hospital, it is a work place like no other. I thought I would stay forever! God has other plans for us and with great regret we will be saying a sad farewell to NCC & moving to Goroka, PNG at the end of May. We take only our youngest son, Tristan, with us. Aaron is at boarding school in Cairns. It is a great challenge to move to another country with

only one of your four teenagers! We could not do it in

our own strength, but by the Grace of our Awesome

God.

Having to re-home our lovely dog, Spaghetti & kitty cat has been especially hard, we love them so much.

We would ask you to uphold us in prayer in this challenging transition time.

Best wishes for the rest of 2012 We’ll miss you guys!Mrs Woody.

Chess Club has started!

Tuesdays at lunchtime with Mr Terpstra in the library. While we wait for new chess sets to arrive, check if you can bring a set from home!

Demystifying  the  matchbox!

Wondering   why   your   child   has   come   home   with   an   empty   matchbox?   Didn’t  receive  the  all-‐explanatory  accompanying  note?  This   exciting   fundraiser   is   geared   speciLically   for   our   students   –  especially   those  with  a  keen  eye  and  lots  of  imagination.  The   idea   is   to   Lill   the  matchbox  with   as   many   tiny   items   as   possible.   No   repeat  items   are   allowed   (e.g.   a   box   of   sand/rice   does   not   count   –   however   one   grain  does!)  and  nothing   too  gross  please  (bear  in  mind,  we  have   to   count   these  when  they’re  handed  in!).  Find   as   many   sponsors   as   you   can   (10c/item   is   a   good   base   rate!),   Lill   in   your  sheets   and   get  collecting!  A   rough   Ligure  of  $20  per  student  would  be   fantastic  &  make  this  a  resounding  success.Matchboxes  need  to  be  handed  in  with  the  sponsor  sheets  and  money  collected  to  your   teachers   by   Friday  May  18.    Prizes   will  be   awarded   per   class   for   the   most  items  collected  AND  the  most  unusual  item.  Parents,  please  encourage  your  child/ren  to  get  excited  about  this   initiative  –  not  only   is   it   a   fun   activity,   it   has   the   potential   to   raise   some   money   for   our   school  community!

WANT TO SPOIL MUM??

Come   along   to   our   cake   and   gift   stall   on  Friday   May   11.   Open   before   and   after  school,  there’ll  be   lots  of   goodies  on  offer  –  so  don’t  forget  to  bring  along  your  money!
