CHRISTINE RIES: COLORSCAPESChristine Ries’ continu-ous exploration of color transcends subject mat-ter and medium.  She moves from landscapes to still-lifes to figurative works fluidly, maintain-ing her recognizable style in each.  She in-corporates her interest in textiles into many of her compositions, sometimes using a shapely mass of pattern to indicate the human form within.com). De-tails and entry form @BAYarts.net

STILL LIFE STILL HAS LIFE

The Goal with this body of work was

to create a dynamic based on the juxtapo-sition of patterns and a bold, complementa-

ry palette-- resulting in a synergy of texture,

animation and optical effects. Some of the titles are ‘’tongue in

cheek’’ and some are a sardonic take on the

imagery. Of course, viewer interpretation

is always welcome.

An intensive ARTS program designed for MIDDLE SCHOOL students

CERAMICSInsturcotor Mallory Tulcewicz received her BA in Sculpture and Ceramics from Xavier University in 2014. She joined the BAYarts staff in the fall of 2019 as a Ceramic Assistant Studio Manager and instructor for children and adult classes. Mallory will share her knowledge of wheel-throwing and sculpture in a positive and nurturing environment. Students will learn how to successfully incorporate their hand-building skills and new wheel-throwing skills to create one-of-a-kind sculptures and utilitarian pieces. Each session within the course will focus on a specific theme, helping students to really explore their ideas and imagination culminating in a unique body of work at the end of the course.

CARTOONINGTake your drawing and cartooning skills to the next level with Jim Giar. Jim attended CCAD, studying illustration and photography. There is where he adopted advice also from his illustration instructor as a lifelong mantra: “every illustration should tell a story.” Recently he has contributed to several anthologies, including the Harvey Award nominated Once Upon A Time Machine published by Locust Moon & Dark Horse Comics, as well as the New York Times best seller FUBAR: Empire of the Rising Dead. He shares his love of comics with kids, looking to motivate the young storytellers of the future to continue telling stories through the use of sequential images… A talent, Jim feels, exists in all children.  In this course, Jim will teach basic drawing skills, showing how to give figures form and incorporating storytelling while helping you find your own personal style. Open to any skill level, this class will leave students with a cartooning portfolio to be proud of and tools to apply to any discipline of art.

DRAWING & PAINTINGEric Dull is a 1997 graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Art with a BFA in Illustration. He has worked as an illustrator, graphic and product designer as well as a production artist for a variety of Cleveland area companies. This intensive program will provide young teens with a creative and supportive artistic environment for portfolio preparation. Students will hone their technical and observational skills, work with a wide range of media, and develop a portfolio of personal work.

GRAPHIC DESIGNProfessional artist Michael Adams (BFA Illustration 1984 Washington University St. Louis), Senior Designer Hallmark Cards and American Greetings, Art Director Zack Designs, Owner at MAdesigns will share his knowledge of problem solving through design. Students will be encouraged to explore their ideas and imagination to create pieces that communicate their ideas in the graphic medium. This program will encourage students to combine drawing and painting with typography, photography and digital media. We will be using Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop on MAC laptops (provided).
