RFID in Practice

In India, over a decade we can see quite a lot of changes in the retail market. Upcoming super markets, increased number of malls in and around the city that focuses out lot of variations in sales, setting new trends, enhancing security with Electronic Article Surveillanceimprovise & bring in delight to the customer’s shopping experience.

Of course, the aim is to automate the business processes, meet the expected ROI. This isn’t possible without the footmark of a technology!!

When we visit a retail outlet our first point of notice are the barcodes, stuck on packed products /durable goods or the apparel. Each of which is getting scanned with an opticascanner (for Identification, Stock take, Inventory and Management). Oh Goodness!! , this is tedious for both the staff to manage work and the customer who wait queue) at the POS.

Even though barcodes are cheaper and has been successfully Implemented at various retail outlets, they have their own drawbacks of getting ripped off/ damaged easily, make the process labour intensive and have no read/ write capabilities as they do not contain any informationsuch drawbacks, retailers may opt to Itechnology that is always Unique - AUTO ID Frequency Identification).

More over from the sales and business, they customers. But we notice that when peopleshowroom : not only women but all have lot of mind before making a purchase.

What product/Item are we looking for? What brand it is? Is it of the brand same as the item (of interest) put

in display? What is the detailed information about the product? Any reviews about the product? Whether the Item/ product are fast moving? Whether the product is in stock, if not when we can

avail them...and lots more!!

Finally after a long interaction between the customer, sales staff would just say “ You can for reviews or ask your friends”, Peopleblank, as the barcodes speak nothing.
