WAITING FOR THE RESURRECTION RON ROLHEISER, OMI
If there's an all-knowing, all-powerful, and all-loving God who is Lord of this universe, that presence isn't very evident on the evening news.
It's fair and reflective to wonder: Where is the resurrection in all of this? Why is God seemingly so inactive? Where is the vindication of Easter Sunday?
What the resurrection teaches is that God doesn't forcibly intervene to stop pain and death. Instead he redeems the pain and vindicates the death.
Good and truth will always triumph, but this triumph must be waited for, not because God wants us to endure pain as some kind of test, but because God, unlike ourselves, doesn't use coercion or violence to achieve an aim. God uses only love, truth, beauty, and goodness and God uses these by, structurally and non-negotiably, embedding them into the universe itself, like a giant moral immune-system that eventually, always, brings the body back to health.
The immune-system eventually does its work, even if, in the short term, there are pain and death. But always, in the end, the universe rights itself.
Simply put: Whenever we do anything wrong, anything at all, it won't turn out right. It can't. The structure of the universe won't receive it and it comes back to us, one way or the other. Conversely, whenever we do something right, anything that's true, good, loving, or beautiful, the universe vindicates that. It judges our every act and its judgement allows no exceptions.
But, eventually, without a single exception, evil is shamed and good triumphs. The resurrection works.

Strait Islander peoples’.
The institution of the feast was inspired by a desire of Jesus which was conveyed by Sister Faustina. The Lord Jesus told her: I desire that the first Sunday after Easter be the Feast of Mercy (Diary 299). I desire that the Feast of Mercy be a refuge and shelter for all souls, and especially for poor sinners. On that day the very depths of My tender Mercy are open. I pour out a whole ocean of graces upon those souls who approach the Fount of My Mercy. The soul that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion shall obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment. On that day all the divine floodgates through which graces flow are opened (Diary 699).
At a prayer vigil on the eve of Divine Mercy Sunday last year, Pope Fran-cis thanked Pope John Paul II and St Faustina for their response to Christ’s request for the Divine Mercy.
“God never tires of showing us mercy and we should never take for grant-ed the opportunity to receive, seek and desire this mercy,” Pope Francis said. “It is something always new, which inspires awe and wonder as we see God’s immense creativity in the ways he comes to meet us.”
And just as Christ told the young Polish nun, Pope Francis echoed the words of the Divine Mercy in his closing words:
“Let us open our hearts so that the Spirit can transform us; thus forgiven, reconciled, and sheltered in our Lord’s wounds, we will become witness-es to the joy that brims over on finding the risen Lord, alive among us.”
An additional Mass will be celebrated this afternoon at 3.00p.m. The Sacrament of Reconciliation will be available from 2.00p.m. and the Divine mercy Chaplet will be prayed at 2.45p.m.

Dear Sisters and Brothers,
Please carry in your prayers members of the Sri Lankan Community in the
aftermath of the terrorist attacks which killed and wounded so many.
It is hard to conceive of the mentality that deliberated organisers, the murder of
the innocent, for purposes that are indefensible. Nothing justifies mayhem.
There are numbers of Sri Lankan families in our South Australian Community
who have relatives afflicted by these recent actions.
Please include them in your Masses and reach out to them.
Yours in Christ,
+ Gregory O’Kelly SJ

Thought for the Week

PRISON MINISTRY
“The Lord is compassion & love,
slow to anger & rich in mercy.
He does not treat us according to our sins,
Nor repay us according to our faults.”
By the grace of God our Parish Prison Ministry Team continues to grow...we are now a
team of 15 comprised of 11 writers who each write to a pen-pal in prison, a chaplain &
visitor who visit prisoners in the local prison, a mentor who gives moral support to those
who have been released & a supporter who supplies Rosary beads & a study Bible
each year for use by the prisoners.
As we celebrate the season of Easter may we look at ways we can bring “new life &
hope” into our community. Please give thought to joining our Prison Ministry Team as
this is one way of showing the “Face of our Loving & Merciful God” to those who are
incarcerated in our prison system.
Out team will be hosting the Prison Ministry Reflection Day here in Port Lincoln this
year on Friday 20th September. If you would like to find out more about the ministry or
would like to be involved you would be warmly welcomed over a cuppa at our next team
meeting with Father Khalid will be held in the Parish Hall at 10.30am Saturday 18th
May.
MOTHER’S DAY BREAKFAST
Sunday 12th
May after 9am Mass.
We hope you can join us for a cooked breakfast to celebrate the wonderous gift of our Mothers.
If you have chooks and they lay us a few for the breakfast that would be great. Just bring them along on the morning before Mass.
HOSPITALITY GROUP: No meeting is planned but we will communicate with each other to make sure we have the necessary stuff in place.
If a few helpers are able to help set up the hall at 8.15am on the morning that would be most appreciated.
