Preparing for 3-way Conferences At Newtown we learn and flourish together. Learning is process in which your child is an active participant rather than a passive recipient. 3-way conferences bring all 3 stakeholders together: 1. the child—as an active and essential stakeholder, can demonstrate their understanding of their
own learning. They can explain their goals and show examples of their progress. They will also ex-plain how they arrived at their new goals. This is an exciting contrast to what you may recall of your own experience as a learner
2. the carers—you can ask questions, express ideas and help make plans to support your child’s learning at home.
3. the teachers—will support students and parents by clarifying, elaborating and responding to spe-cific questions and concerns.
Consider how you can engage in the 3-way discussions. Here are some sample questions that will help your active participation. What has been the achievement which has made you most proud? What did you do that helped you to achieve this goal? Where have you used that skill recently? What is a new goal for you? What is the first thing you will do to achieve a new goal? Is there something you used in past achievements that can help with new goals? What ways can I support you in reaching your goals? Where do you see this being useful in the future?

Lego, construction, sketching, knitting, board games, nature play, singing group. If you are interested or would like to find out more please contact Ms Smith. Please note: all volunteers must hold a current Working with Children card. In response to this call, a group of parents plan to run a lunchtime Soccer Clinic for students for the Junior and Middle part of the school. For those who have regis-tered their child’s interest, more information will follow shortly. Nature Play Space
Our Nature Play Space will
officially open on Friday at
1pm.
Thanks to the families who
have donated timber, rope
and rocks.
These have helped to create a
space that will provide endless
possibilities for imaginative play.
WE WANT OUR PARENTS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK!
Our school is conducting a survey to find out what parents
think of our school. The Parent Opinion Survey is an annual
survey offered by the Department of Education and Training
that is conducted amongst a sample of randomly selected
parents.
It is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of
parents’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour and
student engagement. Our school will use the survey results to
help inform and direct future school planning and improve-
ment strategies.
This year the Parent Opinion Survey will be conducted from
Monday 23rd July to Sunday 26th August.
The survey will be conducted online, only takes 10-15
minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient
time within the fieldwork period on desktop computers, lap-
tops, tablets or smartphones.
All responses to the survey are anonymous.
The online survey will be available in a range of languages
other than English.
Please speak to your child’s teacher if you would like more
information.

NPS sCOOL Kids
The Newtown Heroes were busy at work late in
Term 2 to create a far more appealing and stable
garden area near the new portables. The Heroes – a
group of students from across our school that work
with Butters – first cleared the area before creating
the new garden alongside the classrooms that house
Middle Ashkanasy and Middle O’Meara. The
Heroes’ first job was to clear the area, removing
trees and former plant waste before adding some
new soil. Then the group established some key ele-
ments including wooden sleepers and cemented in
stones. The plants in the new garden are “baby” ver-
sions of other plants that feature in gardens across
the school. The feature is a pink plant called the Oc-
tober Glory. It can grow up to 12 metres high. The
Heroes are continuing to maintain the garden with
the vital job of watering.
NPS sCOOL kids is news from our
students for our community.
