AN INSIDE LOOK INTO THE AURORA SOLAR PROJECT

While there’s no doubt Faith is involved in a lot of really great projects, we wanted to discuss the Aurora solar project this month as it has proven to be a great example of a One Faith effort – with employees throughout the organization coming together and clearly demonstrating what it means to live our core values.

    A CLOSER LOOK AT AURORA

The Aurora solar project is the largest solar project in Minnesota to date, and the largest solar energy facility in the Midwest. It is a 100 megawatt AC [150 MW DC] utility-scale solar (photovoltaic) farm. To help put that in perspective, one megawatt equals 1,000,000 watts! The solar farm is comprised of nearly 476,928 solar modules (panels) spread across 16 sites surrounding the Twin Cities area, covering approximately 800 acres. Upon completion, the solar farm is expected to produce enough energy to power 20,000 – 25,000 homes, which is the equivalent of a modest-sized traditional power plant.

    AURORA: THE FINAL WEEKS

Before the December 1-4 weekend push, approximately 80,000 solar modules across two sites remained. With the help of more than 200 employees, we were able to safely and successfully install 35,000 modules, well positioning us for the December 18th completion date. Thank you to all of the employees who came onsite, and all of the employees who helped fill in for fellow coworkers while they were away. This is a truly remarkable accomplishment for Faith!

    THE FUTURE OF UTILITY-SCALE SOLAR

According to the U.S. Department of energy, the solar industry is here to stay. Solar is recognized as the cleanest, quietest, and most abundant energy resource we have. Additionally, over the past eight years, the cost of utility-scale solar has fallen by more than 60 percent. This can be attributed to advances in the solar technology, realized installation efficiencies, and reduced installation costs. As a result, the solar industry in the US is expected to grow to a 20 gigawatt [GW] annual market by 2021!

It’s clear that utility scale solar projects like Aurora will continue to have a growing presence in the US over the next several years, and the success of this project will only aid in Faith’s ability to compete in this expanding market.

Each solar module is approximately 6 ½ feet long by 3 ½ feet wide, and weighs nearly 60 pounds.

  • Winter drivers will benefit from stocking up with a snow shovel, ice scraper, sand, and kitty litter, and keeping them in the trunk. Stow warning devices such as flares and folding reflective triangles, jumper cables (include goggles to use when jump starting your battery), gloves, a first aid kit, one or two water bottles, and windshield wiper fluid in your vehicle. A working flashlight, blanket, old clothing to protect what you are wearing during repairs, duct tape for temporary patch-up jobs, maps, matches and nonperishable food items like high-energy trail mix or granola bars round out a basic supply list.

    2

Winter is nearly here again and for many drivers, winter driving brings about the dreaded thoughts of snow, sleet, ice, skidding, and digging the car out. However, through careful planning and some good old-fashioned common sense, anyone can ease the uncertainty of potentially dangerous travel conditions and reduce transportation accidents.

    SAFETY STATS - OCTOBER 2016

    Avoid Procrastination

Winter preparation of your car should begin before the first snowfall. Get a tune-up. Check the brakes, exhaust system, and make sure the front and back wipers, heater, defroster and rear window defogger are all in good working order. All-weather tires will perform well under most conditions, but you should buy winter tires if you expect to be on the road daily.

Inclement weather can turn a normal trip into a driver’s worst nightmare

Anticipating problems before they arise should aid drivers in maintaining control of their vehicle. This is important because winter driving requires an adjustment for every driver and makes accelerating, braking, and turning more challenging due to the weather conditions. Thus, poor road conditions require better judgment, patience, and adjusting to slow speeds. You do not need to drive at the limit.

    Maintain Control

If you do get stuck in drifting snow, keep snow and ice from blocking your exhaust pipe. Lower your window slightly to avoid asphyxiating carbon monoxide fumes from entering your vehicle. Run the engine and heater about 10 minutes per hour. Adjust this accordingly depending on your available fuel level. Don’t leave the car unless you know your exact location and the time and distance required to get help.

Finally, check weather and traffic reports prior to and during your trip. Be patient, flexible and adaptable. People taking long trips should leave a travel itinerary with colleagues, family or friends with anticipated arrival and check-in times.

    ASK MIKE

    Q. WHEN DO EMPLOYEES RECEIVE MERIT INCREASES?

    A. This is a great question, and a timely one too as we prepare for our annual field and office evaluations. Merit increases are considered during Faith’s annual evaluation process. The field evaluation

process for leaders has already started as they work to complete online evaluations. Face-to-face evaluations with your PM will follow. This is an important part of the evaluation process as it allows employees and their leaders to celebrate strong performance, identify areas of improvement, develop goals for the upcoming year, discuss opportunities for merit increases, and review and ask questions regarding any other company related matters. The office evaluation process will begin in January 2017, but follows a similar process. Watch for more information, including specific timelines in the weeks to come. For more information regarding your specific merit increase, please contact your HRBP.

    Q. WHAT IS THE EXPECTED RESPONSE TIME REGARDING PAYROLL QUESTIONS?

    A. Our goal is to respond to any employee inquiries within 24 hours, but on high volume call days like when paystubs are available or timecards are due - it may take up to 48 hours. Employees with payroll related questions are encouraged to call 920-751-9834 to reach one of the three members of our payroll team. If your call is not answered, please be sure to leave a voicemail with your name, employee ID, phone number and the reason for your call to ensure the quickest response time. Your patience and understanding is appreciated.

    Q. EARLIER THIS YEAR WE LEARNED THAT FAITH WAS EXPLORING ONLINE TIMEKEEPING SOFTWARE. CAN YOU PROVIDE US WITH AN UPDATE?

    A. You are correct. A cross-functional taskforce was created earlier this year to begin exploring timekeeping software options. We’ve researched many, and even piloted a few on jobsites, but until recently, were unable to find a platform that worked with the nuances of our business (e.g. kickers, mileage), and offered the high functionality necessary to successfully deploy across Faith. I’m pleased to share we recently began testing a new timekeeping system on a jobsite in September, and are in the process of incorporating it on a second jobsite to further test its capabilities. The taskforce will continue to work with these jobsite crews for the remainder of 2016, before rolling it out to additional jobsites in 2017.

Employees have two ways to submit their questions:

AskMike Email: All emails sent to [email protected] will be reviewed and answered in one of two ways – via email or during the next M3 meeting.

Anonymous AskMike Submission: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/RQXFRDP This submission option is intended for questions that impact a widespread audience only. Anyone with questions that require additional clarification or 1:1 follow up should be directed to the AskMike email.

Questions will be addressed via email with the specific individual and/or shared during the next M3 meeting on December 15th at 11:30 AM CST.

    PROJECT OVERVIEW

Completed in 2014, Agropur invested $100 million to expand and modernize their Luxemburg facility. The expansion included the development of a 120,000 sq. ft. building, new equipment and improved whey processing and wastewater treatment plant.

Due to Faith’s success on the Luxemburg project and close relationship with Agropur, we were awarded the Weyauwega project. Without having to go through the traditional bidding process, this was a huge success for Faith and our relationship with the client.

In 2016, we completed work on the Weyauwega facility’s expansion to increase their feta cheese production capacity. The same project team who completed the work at the Luxemburg facility, also completed the work at the Weyauwega facility. Their knowledge and experience was significant to completing another Agropur project quickly, safely and successfully.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this project a success!

FOX VALLEY TECHNICAL COLLEGE – FAITH TECHNOLOGIES INTERNAL ELECTRICAL APPRENTICESHIP PARTNERSHIP

We are excited to announce that Faith Technologies and Fox Valley Technical College (FVTC) have recently signed an agreement to allow our internal electrical apprenticeship courses to transfer toward a Technical Studies Journeyworker Associate’s Degree at FVTC! To earn this degree, an internal electrical apprentice is required to complete 21 credits of general education courses through FVTC, as well as complete the company’s apprenticeship program. While Faith Technologies does not require a completing apprentice to earn an Associate’s Degree, this opportunity was made available as a direct result of interest and feedback from our internal electrical apprentices.

Please know that while this opportunity is only available through FVTC in the Fox Valley region of Wisconsin right now, the L&D team is actively working with other technical colleges in the company’s major markets with the intent to create similar partnerships. Once additional information is available regarding other partnerships, L&D will communicate this to apprentices and leadership.

Individuals who are interested in this program would be responsible for all program costs. Some costs such as tuition and textbooks may be eligible for tuition reimbursement under the company’s Tuition Reimbursement Policy.

If you are interested in learning more about this opportunity, please contact one of the following individuals:

OUT OF STATE WORK ON CHECK STUBS

As we near the end of the year, we would like all employees to please review the state withholding information on their check stubs. If you see withholding tax noted for a state that you did not work in during the year, please contact Payroll at 920-751-9834 or email [email protected]. We can adjust those wages/withholdings to the correct state prior to the end of the year, so that your W2 is correct when you receive it. Having the correct information will be extremely important when filing your state taxes for the year. Thank you for your assistance.

‘TIS THE SEASON FOR… TAX FILING?

While many of us are planning for our upcoming holiday activities, just a reminder that this is also a great time to begin planning for your end-of-year tax filing. Through the use of electronic W2s, Faith has made it even easier for you to get a jump on the process.

As you may recall, Faith made electronic W2s available through Doculivery last year, the same easy-to-use, secure website you use to access your online check stubs. If you opted-in or opted-out last year and have no changes to your choice, you’re all set.

If you haven’t tried electronic W2 access yet, some of the great features include:

    • Earlier access to your Form W2; you can download it as the Doculivery system notifies you that “an important tax document is available”• W2 access even if you are not presently at your home residence• No risk of your W2 being lost, stolen, delayed, or misplaced in the mail

Not a fan of electronic media? We understand. Many of you may choose to still receive your W2s via the US mail, and we’re happy to do so. All you have to do is ‘opt out’ of the electronic delivery via the same process, by logging in to Doculivery. Once you make a choice on the site, you’re finished, and you won’t need to do so again unless you want to change your delivery option.

For instructions to set up your W2 delivery preference, follow the instructional document on SharePoint or head to the Doculivery website. Please email Payroll Specialist, Judy Peschke-Frank, or call 920-751-9833 if you have any questions. Thank you for your cooperation.
