Before School Reading

The Before School Reading Program will start

Monday 17 Feb running Monday to Thursday

mornings. Children attending the program will

be able to read to an adult and will be provided

with a healthy breakfast with a choice of cereal,

baked beans, spaghetti, toast, fruit juice and hot

Milo.

The program will be in Room 36 in Block 3 and

will operate between 8am – 8.50am. All children

must read before eating breakfast and then may

remain enjoying the warm environment that has

been created. Each year visitors would often

comment on the positive atmosphere of the room.

Happily, we were able to measure literacy

improvement for the children attending last year

and the program is commented on most

favourably by staff. For some children this is the

only opportunity that they have to read to

another adult other than the classroom teacher.

Teachers have provided feedback that indicates

children who regularly attend the program

concentrate better in class due to eating a healthy

breakfast.

If you would like to volunteer to help out with

this program please contact Mrs Lidia James

through the school office.

 AFL Eagles Visit

Some Yakamia students were

lucky to be part of a visit from

Eagles players Darren Glass,

Shannon Hurn, Brad Shepherd

and Adam Selwood on

Thursday.

Students really enjoyed the

opportunity to talk with the

players and ask questions.SCHOOL BANKING EVERY: THURSDAYSCHOOL BANKING EVERY: THURSDAYSCHOOL BANKING EVERY: THURSDAYSCHOOL BANKING EVERY: THURSDAY

BEDWETTING (ENURESIS) PROGRAM

Do you have a child who wets the bed and would like to be dry? Bedwetting is a common childhood

problem and it can be resolved. Children will not necessarily ‘grow out of it ’ and left untreated,

bedwetting can continue into adulthood.

In the past 30 years, 1000’s of WA children have become dry through the Princess Margaret

Hospital’s (PMH) enuresis program. This program is available locally through the Great SouthernPopulation Health (Community Health) and provided by school health nurses.

The enuresis program is available for your child if:

• They are aged 6 years to 13years but not older than 13 and 9 months

• Have 2 or more night occurrences of a wet bed in a week

Child wants to become dry

Please contact Great Southern Population Health on 98427500 or alternatively contact the

Community School nurse on 98427564 for more information.

Do you have a child starting school this year?

Starting school is a big event for children and a change for the whole family. For useful information

and tips to help your child make a good start to school, go to the KidsMatter website to watch the

new videos made especially for Australian parents

Growth and Development

Uncomfortable broaching the subject? A useful guide for parents developed by the WA Health

Department is ‘Talk Soon Talk Often’. Find it at public.health.wa.gov.au/2/1276/2/parentgiver.pm
