Please talk to your children about what they have learned. It has been Spelling Bee week! Congratulations to all the winners and especially to all of the Year 1 children who took part as it was the first time Year 1 children had entered the contest. Spellings do not get learned by magic so well done for all the amazing effort that has been put in. It is very impressive how the children really rise to the challenge! As I write this message, a spectacular collection of cakes is growing in preparation for the cake sale! A huge thank you to the PTA and all of you who have made a contribution. It looks like it will be another very successful event. I hope that the new look newsletter is providing you with a better understanding of all that is happening in school. This includes the Educational Visits to Chinatown and the Imperial War Museum as well as all the Enrichment Activities that take place to deepen children’s understanding of their topics – for example the visit from Zoolab! Wishing you all a happy and safe half term break. See you on Monday 20 th February.

Yellow and Pink classes were visited by Felix’s Grandma this afternoon to kick off our Chinese New Year celebrations. She taught us lots of phrases

in Mandarin and a dragon dance. We all got a fortune cookie and a Chinese lantern to take home.

Zoo Lab came to Hargrave Park

Nursery Pink and Yellow class were so lucky to meet the animals from zoo lab. We saw a friendly tarantula and scorpion. We held and stroked Lucy the

leopard gecko and Trevor the snake. We were calm and quiet which helped the animals feel calm too! We learnt about what they eat and where they live.

Some of the children shared which animals they have at home.

School Council

Our School Council representatives had a exciting morning at Sacred Heart Primary School learning all about internet safety.

This was designed to support School Councils in getting ready for Safer Internet Day.

Our New Art Pads

Purple class began using their Sketch Books. We began by having a chat about what they are and how we are going to use them and followed this

with a session that explored images around the theme of 'Extreme Survival', our topic next half term.

Yellow and Green classes came together this afternoon to share their e-safety activities from the week. Children from Yellow Class acted out the

story of 'Chicken Clicking' all about a chicken who is not very sensible online and Green Class presented their very informative e-safety posters.

Whilst the EYFS team were at the Early Excellence Centre taking part in a Quality Environments seminar, we were tweeted for taking part in the 'Hundred Review', a review of good practice

within Reception. The review is being undertaken by Early Excellence to find the views of all Reception teachers around

these key questions How are good outcomes secured in YR?

What is effective teaching in YR and how do we know? What prevents or secures progress and attainment in YR?
