ST PAUL’S PRIMARY SCHOOL, MT LAWLEY - FROM DARKNESS INTO LIGHT - 1 NEWSLETTER TERM 4 WEEK 8 December 3 2015 PRINCIPAL’S PERSPECTIVE Dear Members of the St Paul’s Community Reconciliation We are very grateful to Father Tim, Archbishop Barry Hickey, Fr Tom Smith and Fr David Watts, for giving of their time today to offer the children in Years 3-6 the Sacrament of Reconciliation, in preparation for Christmas. I’m sure the children experienced a sense of peace from this healing sacrament. Kindy Concert Well done to the Kindy children, Mac Callisto, Connie Mezzatesta and Mary Kerrigan for the very cute Kindy Christmas Concert held for the parents today. There was much fun and laughter and the children performed joyfully for their very proud parents. Pre Kindy (3 Year Olds) Orientation Session This week, the 2015 Pre Kindy class participated in a successful orientation session with the Pre Kindy team, Michelle Sims and Helen Chatzimichail. The children had a wonderful time! Year 6 Graduation There is much anticipation in the school this week as the Year 6 students prepare for their Graduation Mass, Awards Ceremony and Dinner Dance tomorrow night, commencing at 6.30pm in the church. The Year 6 students have been attending social dancing lessons with Kaye Gilkison and practising their special farewell song, in readiness for this exciting event. Thank you to Stephanie Trestrail and the Year 5 parents who have been working so hard to organise the dinner for the Yr 6 students and parents. We are very proud of our Year 6 leaders and will be sad to see them go at the end of the year. We wish them every success in secondary school and will follow their progress with interest. Parish / School Mass This Sunday, 6 December, the Pre Primary students and parents will be hosting the 9.30am Parish Mass and morning tea. Everyone is encouraged to attend this last Parish/School Mass for the year. Seeing the children carrying out the ministries at Mass is always a jheart - warming experience. End of Year Concert The students from Pre Primary to Year 6 are excitedly practising for the concert next Tuesday 8 December at 6.30pm. To ensure that the evening runs smoothly, we are asking the children to assemble in their classrooms beforehand. Parking will be a challenge and we would ask as many people as possible to park at the church and walk to the school. We need to be thoughtful of the neighbours on these occasions and avoid parking across driveways or on verges. Thanksgiving Mass Next Thursday, 10 December at 9.15, the end of year Thanksgiving Mass will be held at St Paul’s Church. At the Mass, we will give thanks for the year and farewell outgoing staff, students and departing families. All members of St Paul’s community are warmly invited to attend our last gathering in prayer together. St Paul’s Primary School is committed to Christ-centred education, inspired by the vision of the Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions and the teachings of St Paul, empow- ering us to seek the truth and grow in knowledge from darkness into the light of Christ. OUR VISION STATEMENT REFLECTION A D V E N T P R A Y E R Lord God, people waited a long time for the coming of Jesus, your Son. They longed for peace and joy in the world. People still long for the peace and joy that Jesus brings. As we await the coming of Christmas, may Jesus prepare a place in our hearts. May Jesus be present among us. Parish/School Mass This Sunday 6 December, we have our Parish/School Mass which is being hosted and lead by the Pre Primary. This will be held at 9.30am in the St Paul’s Church followed by morning tea in the undercroft. We hope you can all make it to our final Parish/School Mass for the year.

This is also the Feast of St Nicholas, who was a Christian bishop. St Nicholas provided for the poor and sick, and is the basis for the popular character of Santa Claus. Over the years, stories of his miracles and work for the poor spread to other parts of the world. He became known as the protector of children and sailors and was associated with gift-giving. Feast of the Immaculate Conception 8 December The Feast of the Immaculate Conception celebrates the solemn belief in the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, who was conceived free from original sin. Year of Mercy (8 December 2015 to 20 November 2016) Pope Francis has declared that from 8 December 2015 until 20 November 2016, the Catholic Church will celebrate an ‘Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy.’ The document which outlines the ‘spirit’ of the year, its intentions and outcomes uses the image of the door as a powerful symbol. The Year of Mercy will begin with the opening of the Holy Door in St Peter’s Basilica in Rome on 8 December. Pope Francis has declared that for this year it will be a ‘Door of Mercy’ through which anyone who enters will experience the love of God who consoles, pardons and instils hope.
