Term 3 - Week 10 24th September 2018 letter sounds he hears and Thor can count by twos and fives. Ethan can count forwards and backwards from 10 to 100 and Isaac has also achieved his goal. Congratulations to all of these hard- working KC students. NAPLAN Assessments Last week, each participating Year 3 and 5 student was provided with their NAPLAN Assessment results. The graphs, and other information included, provides families with some general information about Literacy and Numeracy achievement. If you have any queries regarding your child’s assessment, please see their class teacher who is best placed to discuss the results from this one day of testing, as well as a wide range of other assessments done in class. Year 12 Shoalhaven Aboriginal Graduation This evening our local Shoalhaven Aboriginal students, who have successfully graduated Year 12, will enjoy a special celebratory dinner event at Bomaderry Bowling Club. Congratulations to all of the students. We are proud of your achievements, and look forward to hearing about your futures beyond school. This event has been running for many years, but this year our Bomaderry PS students are involved. It was a great honour to have the organising committee ask us to invite Stage 3 students to assist as ushers and also for some of our Aboriginal Dance Troupe to perform alongside the BHS dancers. Congratulations to Aaliyha, Abby, Brayden, Lateisha, Katie, Mitchell, Kahlia, Larna, Phoebe, Shyanne, Maddison and Kalissa who will represent us tonight with Aunty Allison. We look forward to hearing about the night. School Arrival Times Please remember that no staff are on duty, or providing supervision, until 8.40am. Prior to this time, students should not be on the school grounds unless they are leaving on an early excursion with staff. In some circumstances, 8.30am could be a reasonable arrival time, if children attend the school breakfast club at the canteen, where staff are on duty. Please ensure that they do not arrive prior to 8.30am as we cannot provide duty of care. This is the parent’s responsibility until 8.30am. New Building Works We are thrilled to finally have major works in progress to support our Autism Classes and Early Intervention Unit. These classes will enjoy access to an additional deck and breakout area as soon as the works are completed. This space will provide covered outdoor learning, flexible play spaces and opportunities for parents to drop off and pick up at EIU. We have had to wait patiently until the Depattment's contractors could provide these facilities, but we are very excited the time has finally arrived! Personalised Learning Pathway (PLP) Meetings Congratulations to our entire school community. The participation in our Semester 2 round of PLP meetings has been encouraging. We are committed to providing Dear Parents and Carers Thank you for an amazing Term 3. It has been a whirlwind of events and learning – but we wouldn’t have it any other way! We enjoyed Book Week, Leisure Sports, Canberra Excursion, Swim Scheme, Trivia Night fundraiser, and we will finish off this week with our annual Jump Rope For Heart event. Term 4 HATS Please remember that next term students are required to bring a school hat (broad brimmed, navy blue) to school EVERY DAY. The weather is warming up and there are areas in our school playground where students will require a hat to play. Remember: NO HAT – PLAY IN THE SHADE. We encourage all students to enjoy the playbreaks, sport and outdoor lessons whilst being sunsafe. Please pack a hat in your child’s bag every day. ‘Kicking’ our Learning Goals Every BPS student has individual learning goals and they strive to achieve these every day. It is with great pride and excitement, that students visit the Principal’s office to celebrate the achievement of these goals. Students talk about how they achieved their goals, who helped them, and what they plan to achieve next – it is a very special time. Miley, Tanesha, Taylah, Aurelia, Lilyana and Debbie from 3/4G achieved their learning goals last week. All girls achieved the reading level they had been striving for. Well done, girls. Kush and Finn from 3/4G achieved their Numeracy goals. Kush can count forward and backwards by 10, both on and off the decade. Finn can multiply decimals. Lateisha in 5/6S knows one hundred high frequency words which is helping with her reading. KC students were busy celebrating some goal achievements last week too. opportunities for our students to set goals with their parents and carers and teachers present. This team-setting, encourages us all to be aware of the goals our students are working on and give the opportunity to discuss aspirations for our kid’s futures. If you are trying to find a time to catch up, together with your child and their teacher, please call by the classroom at home-time or call the office and leave a message on 44216577. We would love to catch up with our last few families this week and achieve our goal of having 100% of students with a PLP meeting attended by parents/carers.

Have a fabulous holiday break. Enjoy the Spring weather and our beautiful local area. Consider a walk down to spectacular Bomaderry Creek, or Ben’s Walk. Maybe head to one of our 100+ local beaches or an excursion out to a National Park. We certainly are spoilt for free, outdoor choices in the Shoalhaven!

Aim high, Achieve high – keep striving for your goals. Remember to continue your home reading over the holiday break. Or – enjoy a story read to you by a family member. As Roald Dahl said, “Children are made readers on the laps of their parents”. Enjoy. Dionne Hanbidge
