PRINCIPAL’S REPORT WELCOME BACK Welcome back to term 3, which marks the half-way point of the school year. I hope everyone had a good break, although the weather may have dampened some plans. Over the holidays works on the PFA shed were done by school council (water and power). The veggie garden also got a new sprinkler system installed ready for another busy semester of kitchen garden.
With the current wet and cold conditions please remind students about the need to be careful at bus stops and school drop off and pickup times. All students should be supervised when crossing roads and walk at all times. Please use the car parks.
This term we have a number of fantastic programs planned for students. Staff, as always, are looking for new ways to engage our students in different and fun learning experiences. Swimming and our Annual Speech Program take place in term 3. Our Kitchen Garden Program starts week 4 and there are many more exciting programs.
Enrolment for 2017 Prep students is the first 2 weeks of term 3. If you know of any families interested in visiting our school, want to enrol students or would like information please encourage them to contact the school for an enrolment pack. Enrolment forms are due now.
Term 3 Learning Snapshot • The Kitchen Garden program starts next week and goes from

• Grade 4/5/6 Speech Program
• Science STEM Showcase - Week 6
• Swimming Program for all students - the last 2 weeks of term September 5th - 15th
SCHOOL REVIEW As previously mentioned our school is undertaking its review this year. This will happen mainly in term 3 with days planned in August. A school review is the process of reflecting on past performance and establishing future directions for our school. Last term we conducted a parent survey for our review. Thank you to all the families who did the survey. The winner of the Coles/Myer voucher will be drawn and announce on Friday via Tiqbiz.

SCHOOL UNIFORM A reminder from School Council, that all students must wear full school uniform at all times. If for some reason this isn’t possible on the odd occasion, please send a note. Our School Council Dress Code is as follows. Please note - Navy Blue is our school colour not black.
STUDENT ACCIDENT INSURANCE Parents are reminded that the Department does not provide personal accident insurance for students. Parents and guardians are responsible for paying the cost of medical treatment for injured students, including any transport costs. Student accident insurance policies are available from some commercial insurers. These cover a range of medical expenses not covered by Medicare or private health insurance. Ambulance cover is something that needs to be considered. Our policy is that an ambulance will be called when injury is deemed serious.

Roses may seem like high maintenance plants, however with a few simple steps throughout the year, it’s surprisingly easy to keep them looking fabulous. During winter, there are 2 important rose jobs, which will reward you with healthier roses and more flowers during the warmer months. Winter pruning, when the roses are leafless, is the ideal time to completely remove any dead stems (which are usually grey) and then cut all the remaining healthy stems down to around knee height. If you have time, prune each stem to just above an outward facing bud. If you’re time poor or a bit unsure, then take no notice of the buds! You can even use hedge shears rather than secateurs. It’s better to prune roses than not at all. If you’ve noticed small yellow spots appearing on your citrus leaves, it could be scale. Turn the leaves over and look for small brown raised bumps. Scale insects are tiny creatures that hide underneath a protective covering and suck the sap out of leaves. Scale can occur in large numbers and affect plant health, as well as discolouring the leaves oil. Regular spraying with white oil on the undersides of the leaves (so it comes into direct contact with the scale) will help bring scale insects under control. Competition winners for June were:
