CAMP PROGRAMS TERM 4 In order for parents to plan well ahead, below are details with estimated costings for all our camps this year. As in past years we are happy for parents to start making small payments each week and set up a payment pan with Suzi. We’ve found this makes things much easier for everyone when camp time arrives.

Grade 4/5/6 Melbourne Urban Camp November 23, 24, 25 This is a city camp with lots of great activities and fun educational experiences for the students. This year the estimated camp cost per student is $290.00. This covers 2 nights’ accommodation, bus, all meals and activities for the 3 days.

Grade 2/3 overnight camp Warrnambool Surfside November 8, 9 proposed dates The cost for this camp will be about $100.00 per student which includes, bus, accommodation, all activities and meals.

The Prep/1 sleepover is in Term 4 and will be around $15.00. The sleepover is at school with a dinner, activities and a movie night.

NEWSLETTER Can I please remind all parents of the importance of reading the newsletter every week. Our newsletter is a key way of communicating between home and school.

SCHOOL UNIFORM A reminder from School Council, that all students must wear full school uniform at all times. If for some reason this isn’t possible on the odd occasion, please send a note. Our School Council Dress Code is as follows. Please note - Navy Blue is our school colour not black.

STUDENT ACCIDENT INSURANCE Parents are reminded that the Department does not provide personal accident insurance for students. Parents and guardians are responsible for paying the cost of medical treatment for injured students, including any transport costs. Student accident insurance policies are available from some commercial insurers. These cover a range of medical expenses not covered by Medicare or private health insurance. Ambulance cover is something that needs to be considered. Our policy is that an ambulance will be called when injury is deemed serious.

Roses may seem like high maintenance plants, however with a few simple steps throughout the year, it’s surprisingly easy to keep them looking fabulous. During winter, there are 2 important rose jobs, which will reward you with healthier roses and more flowers during the warmer months. Winter pruning, when the roses are leafless, is the ideal time to completely remove any dead stems (which are usually grey) and then cut all the remaining healthy stems down to around knee height. If you have time, prune each stem to just above an outward facing bud. If you’re time poor or a bit unsure, then take no notice of the buds! You can even use hedge shears rather than secateurs. It’s better to prune roses than not at all. If you’ve noticed small yellow spots appearing on your citrus leaves, it could be scale. Turn the leaves over and look for small brown raised bumps. Scale insects are tiny creatures that hide underneath a protective covering and suck the sap out of leaves. Scale can occur in large numbers and affect plant health, as well as discolouring the leaves oil. Regular spraying with white oil on the undersides of the leaves (so it comes into direct contact with the scale) will help bring scale insects under control. Competition winners for June were:

Bloom 1st Marita Smith equal 2nd A. Fowler, T. Loomes & B. Uebergang Produce 1st Margaret Lehmann 2nd Janet Shalders Special 1st Janet Shalders 2nd Lorraine Schefferle Next meeting Tuesday July 14th at the Penshurst Hospital Shephard Centre at 10.00am. Competition “A Camellia”
