On this day, the children will take part in lots of fun maths based activities which in the past have included: making and sharing maths games, a number disco, making digit biscuits and playing 'Who wants to be a mathionaire?'. The NSPCC funds Childline which is a really valuable resource available to all children (nation- ally) when they might need free and confidential advice from a trained adult/ therapist. To help raise funds for this fantastic charity and have fun with maths, we are inviting children to 'Dress up for Digits' on this day (football shirt, cap, netball shirt, onesie, tutu); we are asking for a suggested donation of £2. Mrs Castell This Sunday there is a big farewell service for Rev Azariah France-Williams at St Peter and St Paul church at the 9.45am service - please do come along, everyone is very welcome. Rev Azariah will soon be moving on to lead a pioneering church initiative in the diocese of Manches- ter. We are hugely thankful for his commitment and contributions to our school and wish him all the very best. Justine Bateman REV AZARIAH’S LEAVING SERVICE 100 BOOK LISTS The children have been loving finding books from their 100 book lists in the library this term! We are delighted to hear children talking about the books they are reading and making recommendations to each other. We have asked the children to take good care of their book lists as they will be asked to bring them in to school from time to time. They are also expensive for the school to replace. If you need to see the list/print a new copy, they are now available on the school website under the English section. Can we also remind you that this is not a challenge! The children do not have to work their way through all the titles. It is simply a fun guide for finding new titles to enjoy and to broaden their reading habits. Happy reading! Ms Winter BBC RADIO 2 500 WORD COMPETITION The BBC Radio 2 500 words competition is back again! 500 Words is an open invitation to the wide world of imagination, so it's time to get those creative cogs turning! 500 Words is one of the most successful story-writing competi- tions for kids in the world. Nearly half a million pupils have written a story for the competition; that’s over 277 MILLION words! The 2020 competition is now open for entries! There are two age groups in the 500 Words competition - one for children aged 10-13, and another for children aged 5 -9. There are Gold, Silver and Bronze prizes up for grabs in each age group! 1st Prize - Chris Evans' height in books! The Gold winners in each age group will win a pile of books as tall as Chris - that's 1.88 metres! - and 500 books for their school library. 2nd Prize - HRH's height in books! The Silver winners will be awarded a stack of books as tall as our Honorary Judge, Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall! 3rd Prize - Your own height in books! There is also a BRAND NEW Prize for 2020 and it doesn’t matter how good your story is just that you enter one. One entrant will be selected at random to receive a fabulous book bundle and an invite to the final (for child plus a parent or guardian). They will also win 500 books for their school – so the more pupils a school has that have entered, the more chances they have of winning a brand new library.
