    Psalm 19:6

    (The Message translation)

He could see the effect of God on the

    Thoughts/ Prayers/ Thanks

    We thank Wayne Rosenboom for

donating part of his weekend helping

install a small amplifier and speakers

into the IT room as well as repairing

the larger amplifier in the Valley of

Hoe Centre. Your efforts are much

    appreciated.

    Congratulations to Rochelle Semmler

and big sister Leticia on the arrival of

    a baby boy, Braxton.

Prayers are with Deb Wilson and

Teena Nicholls for a return to health

    and to our school community.

Prayers are with Pastor Jim as he

    concludes his services with the

Lyndoch Parish and here at St Jakobi

with thanks giving for all his support.

    Fri 19th – Smith, Archie

Last term a survey was conducted to find out the school community‟s

wishes in relation to having a canteen back at St Jakobi. The following

    was found:

60.7% families provided feedback about the canteen.

91.1% of respondents were in favour of having the canteen

The most favoured days to have the canteen were Friday

    followed by Monday

Respondents favoured lunches as a higher priority than recess

    foods

44% were in favour of a parent café, 51% were not.

41% said they would be prepared to help voluntarily to support

the canteen, 25% said they were unable to help, and 29% said

they might help if the date was suitable

In response to this feedback from our school community School Council

has decided to re-introduce the Canteen to St Jakobi, as a service to

school families. Mrs Sherree Hoffmann, a parent of the school, will be

the Canteen Manager. It will run from the Doecke Kitchen in the new

building, offering this exciting service on Mondays and Fridays. The

Canteen will operate under the South Australian Governments Right Bite

healthy eating system. Mrs Hoffmann is currently updating the necessary

qualifications, and visiting other canteens, finalising policies and working

out menus. The canteen will definitely be ready for Term 4, 2011, but it

is hoped it will be ready for operations before the end of Term 3. At this

stage the idea of a Parent Café is on hold. Stay tuned for further

announcements from our new Canteen Manager, Sheree!!

    Headlice Check

Many thanks for your support once again for the School Managed

Head Lice Program. It is wonderful to be able to share with you that at

    the last check, we were down to 1.07% evidence of head lice or eggs;

we are winning the battle together! Don‟t forget to notify the school if a

bout of head lice occurs in between school checks, so that we can alert

other parents to check hair, and let school hairdressers know that any

eggs found at the next check are old, treated eggs.

Airshow T-shirts need to be in to the Front

Office by this Friday, 12th of

    August, for the date

    adjustment. Thank you

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY

The Premiers Reading Challenge ends Friday the 9th of

September. Please encourage students to get busy

reading. If you need some book ideas please visit the

    After School Sports

After School Sports begins this week with Athletics this Tuesday followed by Tennis on Wednesday. Children may bring clothes

and sneakers to change into on Wednesday (Tuesday is sports uniform) and meet by the old computer room after school with

    their schools bags.

If your child is not able to join in for any of the sessions can you please either let their class teacher know or Mr Lange so that

they can be marked off the roll.

Parents who have not yet returned their medical form and/or help roster notice should do so as soon as possible so that a roster

    can be finalised.

We look forward to some great skill development and fun in the next 7 weeks of this term‟s program.

    Ian Lange, AASC coordinator

In Week 2, students across the school completed art

activities with their siblings. Artworks will be made into

Christmas cards and sold as a fundraiser later in the

    year.

    2/3 Miss Juers Class News

Year 1/2 and Year 2/3 students conducted an

experiment within their unit of inquiry about water. They

used evaporation to make „clean‟ water from salty

    water. Wow!

Year 2/3 visited the Southern Barossa Community Child

Care Centre in Week 2. School students worked with

the children to create their own version of Mem Fox‟s

    “Where is the Green Sheep?”.

any aspect of your child‟s report, please do not hesitate to

After 10 years of service to the Lyndoch parish, Pastor

Jim will be farewelled this Sunday. It is fitting that we

too, at the school, farewell Pastor Jim, and thank him

for the loyalty and support that he has shown the

school during that time. Pastor Jim will be farewelled

during and after Worship on Friday, 26th August,

followed by a morning tea in his honour. We do

hope that you are able to join us whilst we recognise

and acknowledge Jim‟s contribution to and advocacy

    for St Jakobi Lutheran School.

Reports & Portfolios Pastor Jim’s Farewell

Hi everyone and welcome to term 3!

Firstly I would like to say a big thank you to all those

wonderful people who have been cooking meals

and making goodies for our families. There have

been so many grateful people; words cannot say

what your kindness and support means to those

    families who have received goodies.

However, having said that, don‟t give up cooking

yet! There is still two terms to go and our current

freezer stocks are low. If you have some spare time it

would be great if you could drop a meal into our

freezer, located in the kitchen in the Valley of Hope

Centre. Please ensure that your meal is labelled with

its name, the date cooked and the ingredients used –

    thankyou.

If you would like to help us out and are unsure as to

what to cook or where to leave it, please speak to

either myself or your Class Carer.

Once again, thanks for your support.

This term we are asking families from Miss Juers and

Mr Lange/Mrs Ahrens‟ class to donate meals.

However, you can still donate a meal even if your

child isn‟t in either of these classes, basically the

more meals the more help we can offer!
