Bay Crest Sidewalks getting fixed!

Late last year the Bay Crest Park Civic Association began a project to document all sidewalk issues in Bay Crest. This project culminated in sending documentation and photos of 233 issues to Hillsborough County in February of 2020. Upon following up with the county this month, we were told that they are implementing the following action plan. 1. Uneven sidewalk joints that are less than 2” high will be ground down. This work began last week and is expected to resolve the majority of our issues. 2. Uneven sidewalk joints that are more than 2” high and sidewalks that are cracked will require replacement of that section of the sidewalk. The county has identified funding to begin sidewalk replacements in 2021 – approximately 1500 linear feet. This work will be completed in three phases with phase 1 (one) being completed in 2021 and all phases completed by 2023. The Bay Crest Park Civic Association will work with the county to prioritize the sections to be completed first. We will keep you posted on the progress through our quarterly Bay Crest newsletter. If you have any other questions or concerns about sidewalk and roadway issues, they can be reported to the county at the following website: https://www.hillsboroughcounty.org/en/residents/property-owners-and-renters/roads-and-sidewalks/action-folder/report-sidewalk-and-roadway-damage. Sidewalk Repairs in Bay Crest

Political Candidates in Bay Crest At the time this newsletter went to print, we did not know the outcome of the elections, however, we do know that Mike Perotti lives here in Bay Crest. Mike is running for State Attorney in the 13th district.

Also, Scott Levinson is a Bay Crest resident running for County Commissioner, as Sandra Murman is termed out.

Additionally, State Representative, Jackie Toledo was seen here on Stolls Ave. walking precincts door to door with Bay Bay Crest residents Tiffaney Tom, and her mother, Terry Castro. If I missed anyone else from Bay Crest who is (or was running for office my sincere appologies. Written by JjJyJj

Keeping It Clean!

Hillsborough County offers help to residents who are wanting clarification on property building codes, as well as a wide variety of violations for property owners to review. If you see something that is unsightly, or detrimental to you and your neighbors, you should consider asking the homeowner politely if they do not mind your input on an issue in the neighborhood. The link below will help to keep you informed as to what is and what is not a code violation.. https://www.hillsboroughcounty.org/en/government/departments/code

Halloween Came Anyway! Some people are afraid of Covid-19 (we all should be) but Bay Crest residents will not let the Grinch of Covid-19 stop them from being excited about this scary time.

No one SAW the ghost who started “Booooing” residents, (although there was a strange looking fog that lingered on Tahiti Ln.), but many residents were pleasantly surprised when they received gift baskets that appeared at their front doors. No one

saw who left the goodies, and no one could produce a video from their surveillance cameras. These baskets shown to the left, had lots of goodies for kids and adults. The adults called it being “Boozed”. Additionally, the yards were full of great and creepy decorations. Written by: Casper

A Greener Halloween

By Cassidy Williams

Pumpkins are a fundamental part of Halloween, but what many Americans

don’t realize is that they also contribute to about 1.3 billion pounds of food waste every year. You might be thinking, “but pumpkins are natural won't they just decompose?” Unfortunately, the answer is no. In landfills, food waste produces methane which is a greenhouse gas 25 times more harmful than carbon dioxide. Luckily there’s a simple solution we can implement in our community! Not only can you use the seeds and flesh of a pumpkin to make tasty fall treats but when you’re done you can compost it in your backyard. To compost your pumpkin, you can follow these simple steps: 1. Remove any seeds or leftover candle wax 2. Find a sunny spot in your yard that’s out of the way 3. Smash it so it breaks into smaller pieces 4. Cover with leaves 5. Let it compost naturally and turn into fertilizer for your yard With these steps, we can make a difference in our community and create a new tradition that helps our planet- one pumpkin at a time. If you have any questions or would like more information, feel free to contact me at [email protected]

Covid 19 Accomplishments

Hi Jim! I wanted to submit my kitchen remodel for the November Bay Crest Newsletter. I am an amateur vegan chef, so I needed more counter space, more storage and lighter. Our contractor (Gary) was able to create my vision of transforming this outdated and dark galley kitchen into a bright and inviting open peninsula bar! I went with white shaker cabinets, white ice granite countertops, mermaid blue glass backsplash tiles, and wood look ceramic tile flooring. My pantry with pullout shelves! Gary completed the renovation on time and UNDER budget! Now if only COVID would go away so I can start entertaining again!

While some B. C. residents are remodeling, their homes, others are just staying out of trouble.

Blake and Wesley are so eager to “make the cut”. I’ll bet they would be shoveling snow up north if they lived there.

Keep up the good work boys!

New Custom-Built Home in

Bay Crest

A new custom-built home is being built on Bay Crest lane. Since Bay Crest homes were all built in the 60’s, (all by the same builder and only 4 original designs) it is unlikely that this home will adhere to the same designs used back then.

Calls to the construction company for details on the design and size of this home were not returned. Written by JjJyJj

Bay Crest currently has 34 enthusiastic Block

Captains with the mission to “Connect our neighbors to the Bay

Crest Community.” The Block Captain role is to improve our overall community and to connect more residents to the wonderful opportunities we have in Bay Crest. You may think, “I really don’t have the time to devote to being a Block Captain” but, in this digital era, it really is as easy as hitting the Send button. Once you have your street contact list established, you can simply email everyone current neighborhood information and alerts. Listed below are the most important Block Captain Duties: List and maintain contact info

(email and address) for everyone on the street

Promote Bay Crest community events to increase participation (Community Gathering Meetings, Hot Dog Happy Hour, Community Picnic, July 4 Children’s Parade, and many other events)

Bay Crest Park Page 11

Dr. Jaime Kulaga has lived in Baycrest for almost five years. She always talks about how this place is beyond a dream come true for her. Growing up was not easy for Jaime and she says that what she does today professionally, had a lot to do with her past.

In a quick synopsis, Dr. Jaime is a licensed mental health counselor and life coach. In fact, she coaches several clients, right here in Baycrest! She is the author of The SuperWoman’s Guide to Super Fulfillment: Step by Step Strategies to Create Work-Life Balance that was named one of the best work life balance books of all time according to Book Authority. Her book has been translated and published in over 15 countries over 4 continents! And, if there was not more this woman can do, she is also the owner of the residential cleaning company Two Maids & A Mop. She brags though, that her favorite role is being a wife to her husband, Wes,

and mom to her two boys Wesley (13) and Blake (10). You might have seen these two young men in our community mowing lawns. They own “Kulaga Brother’s Lawn Service.” Jaime laughs saying, “How else are these boys going to get a car someday? They need to learn the value of a dollar now. And no, they actually can’t take on any more clients right now. They are full! But mom is taking names for the waiting list for when they turn 16- hahaha.”

While Jaime sure has many accolades and accomplishments behind her name, these titles did not come easy for her. A story she only told once in the media, she shares with us, today. Her journey and passion for wanting to learn more about behavior and the mind began when her father left the family. Jaime says “I was 12, and I remember truly believing that no matter how bad things got, if your married, you work it out, you find a way. My world was shaken the day my father left. It changed my perception of what marriage was, men and even God. I saw my mother, suddenly forced to raise two young girls on her own and have to find a job not having worked a day in her life and without any college education. She was left with $5 in the bank and took the money to purchase my sister and I a Happy Meal at McDonalds. That was the moment I knew I had to educate myself and get as much experience as I could so that when I grew up, I wouldn’t have to live this type of life, a second time.”

And, that is exactly what Dr. Jaime did. She completed her BA in psychology in 3 years at the University of Tampa (2003) and immediately went on to get her master’s (2005) and doctorate in counseling (2011). She got licensed to be a mental health counselor in 2010 and opened her own practice which resides in South Tampa.

Dr. Jaime told me that while she made her journey seem quick, the reality was there were a lot of corporate jobs, internships, and stress in between. She said “I remember coming home from work, my husband would pass our new son to me, and leave for the night for work. I would then nurse my son while typing out assignments to get through school. I was young, newly married and a first-time mom; it was stressful. I remember sitting in a cubicle asking God if he could find me a better way. I remember pushing to grow my business, going to every networking event available, all while crying on my way to the event and using the A/C vent in my car to dry my tears. I worked full time, got off work to work part time at my internship, all while 8 months pregnant with baby boy #2. There were times when I lost my life balance and questioned what I was doing. But, in the back of my mind, I just knew, if I kept pushing, kept learning, and gaining experience I could live out my dream of motivating and inspiring others. I often found myself saying, ‘why am I doing this?’ This is where I learned the importance of vision. When things get rough, that is all you can hold on to.”

Holding on to that vision and never giving up on her goals apparently worked out for Dr. Jaime. Now, Dr. Jaime is a frequent mental health expert on both local and national TV and radio for her expertise in work-life balance. She has been featured as the lead interviewer on CNBC’s, The Job Interview, as well as the spokeswoman for Wendy’s, British Airways and LaLa Yogurt Smoothies. She even toured the country for her book signing in places like the Barnes & Noble on Broadway in NYC and Santa Monica Blvd in California. What amazes me is that Dr. Jaime said of all the things she accomplished in life, walking out back of her own home here in Baycrest and seeing the water right there is one of the most successful things for her. She said, “Five years later (and I hope forever), I still walk out of my backyard in awe. I can’t believe I see dolphins swimming next to my seawall. At one point in my life, my mother, sister and I lived in an attic. An attic! Back then, I would pray just to live in a house someday. Never did I imagine I would live in a house where I had my own pool, dock and a dolphin for a pet. Looking back, my life all makes sense now. It was worth all the trials to live in a place like this.” Exclusively Written for Bay Crest by: Jamie Kulaga If you need any of my info: www.drjaimek.com (for Individual Counseling, Couples Therapy & Life Coaching) www.twomaidstampa.com (For residential house cleaning services)
