    10 YEARSAND BEYOND

Dear Unicentian students, parents and staff,

As I sit to pen my thoughts, the famous proverb comes to my mind rst- ‘When the going gets tough, it is the tough that get going!’ And the present situation is probably a good description of what are tough and unprecedented circumstances. It is our inner strength and the support of fellow beings that contribute a lot towards building our condence and gives us the resilience to cope with the most difficult of the situations.

In reaction to the COVID-19 Global Pandemic, the school was closed to normal activity (what we called it then) from March, 2020. We began the new academic year successfully through distance learning in phases. This monumental task was accomplished due to the dedication and the skill of our staff members, students, and cooperation of parents. It was the right thing to do in order to maintain the continuity in education and to prepare our students for the 21st-century classroom. Pedagogy had to go hand in hand with technology. Our students, parents and teachers shared their experiences time and again with stories of individual perseverance and tenacity that lled us with hope and reaffirmed our faith in this next generation of young people; ready to take on the world!

We take a great deal of pride in offering the best of academic classes along with the belief that all students should be involved in and enjoy their school experience at the same time. Our staff has done a tremendous job over the years and during these trying times as well to make Unicent the school that encourages all students to get involved with their heart. Teachers continue to engage in the review and renement of the instructional programs to ensure all students are performing at the highest levels in the classroom. This has continued to pay off as we had amazing results for the Class X Board Exams( CBSE)-A.Y. 2019-20.

We are mid-way through the academic year of 2020-21 and getting used to the ‘new normal’. Life has a new dimension now and technology plays a signicant role in it. This calls for a paradigm shift in the thinking patterns of the adults. The ‘practices of a physical school’ may not remain as they used to be. However, the combination of activities for hybrid learning would have to be there for the physical, cognitive and emotional development of our students.

I am looking forward to the rest of the school year in service of our students, parents, and community. I am also looking forward to the highest level of involvement from every student, parent and teacher. I look forward to every individual to equip themselves by making best use of this opportunity to learn a new way of life. And I am also looking forward to the reopening of the physical school slowly but surely!

  • As said by Benjamin Franklin ,” Tell me and I forget , teach me and I remember, involve me and I learn. ” To prove this, our students of class I enthusiastically participated for the term - I project on the theme, ' Our Nature' .Self-collage was prepared by students on action words while doing some of the activities to understand the concept thoroughly in their English Project. Addition machine model was made and used by students to get hands on experience on adding the objects while doing math project and the collage of animals, babies and their homes was prepared for EVS. Children had fun learning action words and addition through the activities conducted during their live online classes. - by Mrs. Mamtha

Ganesh Chaturthi Celebrations Ganesh Chaturthi Celebrations Ganesh Chaturthi Celebrations

Ganesh Chaturthi is one of the biggest festivals which is celebrated to mark the birth anniversary of Lord Ganesha. On 21st August, Unicent school Nagole, ce lebrated this occasion with great fervour in the special assembly.

A special prayer was included with devotional slokas. A speech was rendered on the signicance of Ganesh Chaturthi festival. There was a video presentation showing the story of the birth of Lord Ganesha, the Lord of wisdom and remover of obstacles. Students performed dance as obeisance to the Elephant God. The importance of making Ganesha idols using natural materials like clay and mud was emphasized to reduce the environmental pollution. - by Vaishnavi.M class VIII A

Rakhi or Rakshabandhan is held on the full moon of the month of Sravan, it is a festival which celebrates the bond of love and affection between a brother and a sister. On this day, sisters visit their brothers and tie Rakhi to their wrist, give them sweets and take a promise to protect them always. As a token of love, brothers give gifts to sisters. This year my brother gifted me a lovely dress. - by K.Sahasra Class 4A

  • The project for Term-1 done by class 2 was an integrated project on the theme ‘Every life inspires’.

Projects are done for experiential learning in our school. Several activities were conducted to enable children to get hands-on experience on the concepts which would help to retain the knowledge for a long time.

The activities conducted for English were storytelling on ‘Hard Work’ and action through helping hands. For the latter, the children were asked to click a picture of themselves in action while they help their family members, to make them understand the verb (action word) involved in it.

The activities conducted in Math were ‘Subtraction Bowling’ and working with a Number Grid’.

In ‘Subtraction Bowling, the children were asked to arrange a few objects on the oor/table and hit them with a ball. Based on the observation they were asked to frame a story with the solution to make them understand the concept of subtraction. For ‘Number Grid’ to teach Subtraction, children were asked to make a grid of numbers with few animals and their babies or homes placed in the grid randomly. Children had to select any animal and identify their baby or home and carry out the subtraction of the respective numbers.  The activities conducted in EVS were Nest and Mask making.    Children were asked to make a bird's nest and a mask with the materials available at home and speak a few lines about the animals in the classroom as in mono acting. - by Mrs. Mamtha

Activity based Learning for Pre-Primary childrenOur curriculum includes an array of activities for the holistic development of children. We celebrate various special days like Colour Day, Fruits Day, Vegetables Day, Plants Day, Janmashtami celebrations, Fancy Dress Show, Ganesha Making Activity, Rakhi Making Activities to create awareness in children about the environment and our traditions and cultures. Early introduction of these concepts helps to nurture the cognitive skills. To make them understand the importance of consuming fruits and vegetables in their regular diet, we celebrated Fruits day and Vegetables day where teachers helped our tiny tots in making salads. Children understood the importance of washing fruits and vegetables before eating or cooking and the benets of eating fresh fruits and vegetables. Children recited the rhymes based on fruits and vegetables with lot of enthusiasm and learnt the fact that fruits and vegetables are better than junk food. Plants Day celebrations helped them to know the importance of plants in our environment. This was aimed to create an awareness in children to keep the surroundings and environment clean and green. Early introduction of these types of activities will ensure that children get better exposure to make the world better.

  • 74th Independence Day of our country was celebrated by our school with great pride of patriotism. It was because of great freedom ghters and leaders that we are enjoying freedom today and to remember their struggle that they did for the country, we celebrate Independence Day every year. This year’s celebration was different in a way as we had to celebrate it in virtual classrooms. Nevertheless, there was no dip in the energy of students to be part of this celebration. Our little children from Pre -Primary section did an awesome job by dressing up like some of our freedom ghters and leaders because of whom we enjoy freedom today. They made us feel proud with their speeches.

Independence Day is the day to pay homage to those unsung heroes who sacriced their lives for the freedom of our country. It reminds us of the need to value the freedom and the cultural moorings for a better future of our country. The event started at school with our teachers hoisting our national ag with immense pride. The program started with a speech by our esteemed principal Madam followed by a classical dance performance by students. Then the virtual celebrations began zestfully and proceeded with the morning assembly. The skit on ‘Incredible India’ and ‘Glimpses of History’ shared information about the various cultures of India and diverse dance forms from all directions of our nation and the tune got the feet of all folks tapping along to it. Another presentation ‘Unsung Heroes of India’ showcased the brave and courageous souls from India who gave their lives to free their motherland and bring about revolution. After the presentations, our beloved

teacher Mrs Padmalatha delivered a speech in our regional language which was easy to understand and inspiring. The central focus of the program was the webinar conducted by class IX and X students, the motive of which was to inform people about their social responsibilities. The day left an indelible mark in our minds.

  • There are many of us who believe that online classes are limited to only attending classes and doing regular activities. But our teachers believe beyond that. They, with their astonishing amount of innovation, have scheduled an online special assembly for classes 6 to 10.

We, the students of class 8B, had organized the special assembly on 3rd July 2020 with the help of our beloved class teacher, Sirisha ma’am. All of us were elated to nd out that we were conducting a special assembly and were given the chance of highlighting the auspicious occasion of Guru Purnima. With immense dedication ,we came up with an amazing way of expressing our gratitude towards our teachers.

A speech was given by Durgasriya, with great love, respect and devotion we have for our teachers, Navaneeth and Aryan created an immaculate, historical video of our teachers which included their most nostalgic and special moments with each other and the students at school. We received endless inspiring comments about the assembly, but we owe it all to the teamwork, devotion and hard work our teachers teach us here in Unicent. All of us are very excited and looking forward to many more such opportunities.

An assembly is a formal gathering in a school where the children get an opportunity to express themselves and gather knowledge. Due to the current pandemic situation, the schools can neither be opened nor the assemblies be conducted. Nevertheless, the Unicent family has an alternative for this barrier. Every Friday, we hold an online assembly which starts with a prayer followed by pledge. To improve the vocabulary of the students, our school includes a phrase, its meaning and a sentence with that phrase. To know more about words and their origins we have ‘a word within a word.’ To inspire the students and motivate them, we have a ‘thought for the day’ . To understand the value of each day, we talk about the importance of the day in the assembly. Furthermore, we read news and to make online assemblies interesting, we display a power point presentation as a visual aid. Mukund from class IX B made an informative PPT cum video presentation on pioneer’s day. He highlighted information about pioneer’s day and stated the reasons why they had become one. Then a video was presented by Pavani of class IX B about an ever inspiring and motivating person for the youth, that is APJ Abdul Kalam. The video was all about Abdul Kalam’s childhood and his education. I can say that it was one of the best segments that we had in the assembly. We also had a video presentation of a Hindi skit made by students of class IX. It was fun as we had not seen any skits for a long while. The assembly concluded with a speech by Khatija and Pavani about freedom ghters and their tireless and relentless work for our country.

  • Fun with Literature!"The journey of lifetime starts with the turning of a page." Following this beautiful saying, Unicent school, Nagole had organized a reading week from 19th June to 27th June 2020 to strive for the enhancement of vocabulary, comprehension skills in students and to accentuate the signicance of books in their lives. It was a great start when students of grade ten had taken the initiative to share and express their feelings about their own inspiring and motivational articles. Especially, topics related to music, nature and motherland stimulated positive vibes among students and helped them look onto the brighter side. Moreover, "Poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found words." Our innovative poets of classes six, seven and eight have come up with their masterpieces on themes - Dreams and Imagination. As they recited each line of the poems, it soothed the minds of the people and headed them into their desired worlds. A wonderful saying can be recalled that, '' Imagination is the soil that brings dreams to life". Poem recitation develops rhythm, phonemic awareness, memory power and self-expressions of an individual. There was also a presentation about their favourite poets who transformed them to optimistic people even in difficult situations.

" Stories create communities, enable us to see through the eyes of other people, and opens us to the thoughts of others." Our visionary storytellers of classes one to ve introduced us to various stories. Despite being young, they showed excellence in their body language and gestures that we could not take our eyes off.The weeklong Reading week lled with activities culminated when all of us pledged that we would shine the light of knowledge gained, to solve the problems in our country and continue to enlighten ourselves with books. The pledge taking was indeed, a moment of pride. - by P. Pranathi -X

“Father is the son’s rst hero and daughter’s rst love.” In my opinion, it is a wise father who understands his children. No one else can show such pure love like a father does. He always wants his children to be the best. To express the love towards such caring fathers, we celebrate Father’s Day. This year it was on 21st June. I had baked a chocolate cake and it turned out well. I felt glad when my dad liked it. I spent quality time with my father. In all my years, my father taught me to overcome the challenges of life and learn skills from his experience. I feel fathers have a heart of gold. They feel that they are lucky to have us, but I would say, we are lucky to have them. If you have such a loving, kind and considerate father, you are truly fortunate. Take a moment on the Father’s Day to be grateful for him. - by Jaikar Class X

  • “Gaining knowledge is the rst step to wisdom, but sharing knowledge is the rst step to humanity”. Unicent school marked its Independence Day celebrations by conducting a webinar for SEWA which went live. The students of classes IX and X had taken the initiative to conduct this awareness program. SEWA means Social Empowerment Through Work Education and Action. The main intent of this program is to encourage children to become socially responsible citizens. This program pertained to the current lockdown scenario. The webinar began by expressing gratitude towards the frontline workers like doctors and police whose unagging efforts continue to save many lives. This was followed by a demonstration of Risk Mitigation and Problem-Solving Skills for helping the needy. Another presentation suggesting different physical and mental activities which can be adopted during the lockdown was part of the program. Our responsibility towards nature was conveyed by the students by citing measures to protect our environment. Later, students spoke about the virtual classrooms and social responsibilities of students, in teaching the underprivileged through the program Each One Teach One. By being part of this program, students have become instrumental in reforming the society and contributing their bit by spreading awareness.

Parent Orientation Program at the beginning of the academic year serves as an excellent prelude to bond school, parents and students to the common goal - The holistic development of the child. Unicent School has taken a small initiative to counsel parents through an online webinar on 29-5-2020.The parents were briefed about online classes, assessment structure, exam schedule and safety measures that should be followed during online classes. Later, the teachers gave an overview of the various subjects including the co-scholastic activities which gave them an assurance that the curriculum involves self-directed, hands on learning activities which not only gives vent to their creative talents and energies but also help in the all-round development of their children.

Arts improves motor skills, cognitive skills and visual learning. Now a days, music therapy and art therapy are used to treat emotional difficulties, family, stress and depression. Parallelly psychology of children also gets affected because whatever children love to do they learn to do it faster.

  • Teachers’ Day Celebrations at Unicent School

This year’s Teacher’s Day was very unique compared to previous years, as we had this opportunity to celebrate it in virtual classrooms. Children showcased their love and respect towards teachers in the form of poem, speech, self-made greeting cards, songs and PPT. Student teachers from class IX and X visited our classrooms to engage children in the place of teachers. They taught children with pre-planned, fun-lled activities. Teachers and children both had a splendid time interacting with each other. It was a day worth cherishing.

We the students of class VII A at Unicent went to Government Girls High School, Nagoan, Assam, as a part of our ISA project based on the theme Gender Inequality. We learned about how the girl education is progressing even in the remote areas of our country. Their morning assembly was well conducted and girls marched to their classes in a well organised and disciplined manner. This gives us great hope that gender inequality decreases in future.

“Teacher is the only person who inspires hope, ignites the imagination and instills the love towards learning”. Everyone agrees to this quote. It is a fact that there is a teacher behind every successful person. A teacher imparts not only academic knowledge but also enroots ethical values and imbibes morality that shapes one’s personality to be a better human being. Teachers exert tremendous and vital inuence upon the society. The community is entirely dependent on the teachers because they have the power to mould a better society of tomorrow. A teacher holds a position next to the parents as they are the building blocks of society with immense patience and tolerance.Teacher’s Day is celebrated nationwide on the birth anniversary of one of the greatest teachers, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan who was a great scholar and the second vice president of our country. Unicent School has made every effort to celebrate Teachers’ Day in the same manner as it used to celebrate every year. This year’s Teachers’ day celebrations began with the characteristic observance of self-governance, where we the students of classes IX and X were given the duties of teachers and had to go to the respective virtual classes and conduct classes for the students, incorporating games and activities. This unique self-governance lasted for three hours followed by an assembly, in which students displayed many programs to show their love and respect towards their teachers.Games and entertainment activities were organized exclusively for the staff members by class X students. It was really fascinating to watch the teachers enjoy and let go off their stress from the daily grind. Our teachers absolutely loved the games and it was delightful for us to watch them having fun time. We extend our gratitude towards our teachers for being the beacon of light in guiding us with their uninching support even during this ongoing pandemic crisis.

Class VIIB students were taken on a virtual eld trip based on the theme ‘Role of Gender’ which was conducted with an objective to familiarise students with most powerful women from different parts of the world. This is to make students understand that women can also succeed in life and make their mark and identity in the world, which was lacking in the earlier times. In this 21st century, there shall not be any discrimination between men and women. This project has brought awareness among the students.

Projects are the most stimulating parts of active learning. The theme for English ISA project was working of institutions. The students were divided into three groups and each group was asked to highlight the key differences in the working of the Indian Parliament and that of other countries through a presentation. The students collaborated as a group throughout the project, it gave them an insight into the origin of the prevailing systems, their day-to-day functioning and working. It also explained how the three main organs of the government ( the Legislature, the Executive and the Judiciary) play a pivotal role for a Nation. The project helped them to understand how the three organs of the government collaborate in tackling problems at all levels and helping in smooth functioning of a nation’s activities. The project also included a compare and contrast analysis of the working of the governments of other countries and India. It was fun as well as challenging process for the students to coordinate and compile their group work nevertheless it was a project worth learning .

Field TripWe students of class VIII at Unicent went on a virtual eld trip to an agricultural eld as a part of our ISA project based on the theme Our Green Friends-Crops. The eld was in a small area and owned by a single person. The farmer was growing vegetables, fruits and grass as fodder for cattle. He was cultivating the vegetable crops for his own household and not for the purpose of sale in the market. So we can say that the farmer was following subsistence farming. The farm was economically self -sufficient and served as a point of organic farming. The farmer started to add livestock also for the purpose of dairy as well as manure for the farm. We enjoyed a lot watching the farm where different varieties of crops were grown and understood how the farming is done, methods followed and implements used in farming. - by Mrs. Himabala

Students of class VI B had a virtual eld trip to see videos of natural disasters as it was the theme of their ISA Project. We selected those places where frequent natural disasters occur. Students themselves showed several places hit by natural disasters, like storms in the U.S, tsunami in Japan, earthquakes in Nepal and oods in India, through Google Earth. Students gave presentations about the causes and effects of natural disasters. This project enhanced the knowledge of natural disasters and also brought awareness about the loss of life, resources, shelter and loss of property. It is extremely important to learn about natural disasters to tackle such situations in order to minimize the impact. The project brought general awareness not only to the students but also for the teachers who play a pivotal role to spread message to their own family members and the general public.

Heavy rains in July and August in the year 2017, caused severe oods in West Bengal. The oods were reported to have caused 50 deaths. Soon after these oods, North Bengal also witnessed oods that caused havoc over seven districts and killed 3 people. The estimated property loss was around several crores. In Japan, Tsunami and earthquake occurred in March, 2011 causing 15,897 deaths. The magnitude was 9.0 to 9.1 on the Richter scale. One undersea megathrust earthquake took off the coast of Japan. The total damage incurred was around $360 billion USD. Nepal was affected by oods in 2020. 249 people have died because of Monsoon-induced oods, ash oods, heavy rain and landslides. It was considered as one of the biggest disasters of the country. The collected information was tabulated and analysed. The data was represented in the form of a graph and we noticed that the death rate in the natural disasters was almost the same across all the countries which were considered for the study. We had a group discussion in the class where we discussed the causes and consequences of natural disasters. This project helped us to understand the importance of nature and the need to save nature for our survival. We can save our nature by reducing and reusing the plastic, conserving water and planting trees.

  • Haritha Haram“By discovering nature, you discover yourself.” Following up with this wonderful quote, students of Class V from Unicent School Nagole have participated in the Haritha Haram program to appreciate the richness of nature. First, we learnt many interesting facts regarding various species. Especially, when we saw the plants, they soothed our minds with their bright-colored leaves and owers. Moreover, the rainbow pattern on the wings of the butteries attracted the attention of our minds. Personally, I feel it is a great decision taken by the government to protect animals and plants for the future. In addition to that, we went deeper into Science where we learnt that birds could migrate very long distances and they have beaks depending on the food they eat. We should avoid cutting trees and encourage afforestation. It is our responsibility to safeguard the environment for our present and future. - by P. Jaya sai Srikar Class V A

“Protect our Earth today, for our children tomorrow". To protect our nature is a very essential responsibility of all and sundry to be alive. We are culpable for destroying the ora and fauna and natural habitats of animals. So, to help us conserve our incredibly voracious animals and the gorgeous beauty of the trees and plants, the Chief Minister of Telangana Kalvakuntla Chandrashekar Rao launched the program “Telangana Ku Haritha Haram” on 3 July 2015. As part of this scheme, we had a highly informative Virtual Environmental Awareness program from 29-6-2020 to 4-7-2020, presented and organized by Mahavir Harina Vanasthali National Park. The webinars were conducted by different guests on engrossing topics for each day. They are, the forest landscapes of Telangana, importance of National parks and sanctuaries with emphasis to Harina Vanasthali national park, green strides for a social movement, forests for human survival, the biodiversity of Telangana, importance of birds and insects in the ecosystem and Environmental awareness. They have helped us to understand the importance of plantation especially the didactic words of the Animal Warriors team on the last day have stimulated us to participate in nature conservation and help in the rescue of the innocent wildlife. The task they had given us was making a journal which was very inuential. I wholeheartedly thank, sir R.M. Dobriyal, IFS, esteemed guests, the team of Animal warriors, Mahavir Harina Vanasthali National park, and every personnel who has strived to enlighten us with the momentous event. Founder’s Day Celebrations.Unicent School, Nagole celebrated its Founder’s Day on 31st of August in the memory of Shri Kantheti Ravindra Babu who with his plans and aspirations laid a strong foundation for the future generations. A special assembly was conducted by class IX to commemorate the special day and express their gratitude. “Sometimes it only takes one good song to bring back thousands of good, old memories.” To bring some of our memories back about school, Vaishnavi from class VIII A sang a melodious song. Sharanya from class IX A spoke about Founder’s Day and some of her good memories with the school. “Dance is the joy of movement and heart of life.” To prove this statement, Hansika and Aatreyee of Class IX put up a spell bound presentation on the Founder’s Day which the audience thoroughly enjoyed. School life leaves an indelible memory and a glorious journey in one’s life. Most of us really miss our school during this pandemic, hence, a short video was presented to bring back all our recollections. “A decade may sound like a small word, but it is a long journey of 10 years.” It has been a tradition for Unicent School to thank the teachers who have completed their 10 years of service in the Unicent family. We took the opportunity to thank the teachers who have been dedicatedly working for the school for 10 years. “A black board is blank without anything written on it; in the same way a student’s life is blank without the teacher.” Teacher is the one who brings all the colour and joy to a student’s life. To inspire us, Shakila ma’am expressed a few words. Raghavan sir, our guest of honour for the day inspired us with his speech by a special mention of the characteristic features of our school. Then our respectable and very encouraging principal Ms. Rachna Bhattacharjee spoke a few words which inspired us to carry on the legacy of our school . - by G Sahasra, IX B.

I got a chance to participate in a ‘News Reading Competition’ conducted by Times, NIE. The participants had to make a two-minute video of reading the news which was collected from the Times of India newspaper. I included graphics to give it a professional touch of a real news telecast. Preparing for this competition has helped me to hone my articulatory skills and to get rid of my stage fright. I am happy to secure fth position in the competition and look forward to participating in many more. - by Jaikar, Class X
