CLUB NEWSLETTER – NOVEMBER 2011
The Harry Bright Trophy (for guests) was won by Brian Mullan who scored 43 points playing of a handicap of 8 (which meant he went round in 1 over par). Second place went to Pete Ryan on 42 points (off 12). The player who won the ‘Most golf for the least amount of points Trophy” went to Mark Baker with a dismal 23 points! Mark has agreed to sponsor this trophy for the future events! Well done Mark! Just a single point divided the top three DCC players challenging for The Surge Singh Shield. Gavin “Fore” Pointer finished on a splendid 41 points; li[le Jack Atkins shown great maturity beyond his years to come home with 42 points and grab the runner-‐up trophy. But it was firng that the inaugural Shield was won by a performance worthy of any Green Jacket. That performance was provided by the Shield benefactor Surge Singh himself who scored 43 points off a handicap of 9 going round in 2 over par. It was wonderful to see the champion collect his own Shield on its first ouWng!
32 intrepid golfers fuelled with mugs of coffee and bacon rolls, armed with pitchforks and sun cream headed to the first tee at Birchwood to ba[le for the Surge Singh Shield, The Harry Bright Trophy and the PGA Cup. They were going head to head with the cream of Dardord Golf Club a[empWng to get their names on the coveted individual and team prizes. The compeWWons were fiercely contested just a solitary point between the champion and second place for both individual compeWWons.
The PGA Team Trophy was won by Dardord Golf Club 456 points against Dardord Cricket Clubs 420 points. The points were calculated by totalling the top 12 scores from each team. Everyone had a great day and the drinks and champagne flowed in the post match dinner and prizes giving. Thanks to Ron for supplying the prizes and to Surge and Harry for sponsoring them. As the event was so successful and enjoyed by everyone we are proposing Spring & Autumn ouWngs with the Spring one being a one nighter away at a top course in the South East. Thanks to everyone who took part – it was a great day!

CLUB NEWSLETTER – NOVEMBER 2011
WHOS WHO?
This months Who’s Who, is Club Stalwart Dave Hill.
Bar Steward & General Commikee Member I was first introduced to DCC by my father-‐in-‐law Les Knapp. I had been daWng his daughter Lynne for some Wme. (she is now club treasurer and my wife) I think it was around 1990. In them days I was just a social member. It was Les that first got me working behind the bar, I sWll remember having to wash all the glasses by hand, and dry them. I first started playing cricket whilst living in the in the Lake District with borrowed equipment from Nigel Knapp, aoer myself and my wife Lynne moved back there in 1996. On our return to Dardord in Feb 1998 I sWll had the cricket bug so rejoined the club as a player, playing for the 4th and 5th teams. My Greatest crickeWng memory was winning the Readers South Thames Reserve Division in 2000, it was a great year because the team was an unbeaten all year and captained by Ken Walter. Harry Bright persuaded me to join the general commi[ee in 1999. I took over the running of the bar in October 2000 from Nigel Knapp and have seen many changes over the years. The latest being a change of brewery. I am always around the club on a Saturday and Sunday during the season and you are more than welcome to buy me a beer or two. I Look forward to seeing you at the club.
Editor-‐ Dave is also the caretaker of the club and does a lot of work behind the scenes that most members are unaware of. He plays a major role in fundraising, including his successful Real Ale Nights, that over the last few seasons have raised several thousands pounds for DCC. Well done Hillsy………
And as most of us know he is a Rubbish Dancer!!!!!
