I am extremely proud of our educators who have made the transition from learning at home to face to face learning. Thanks to the skill set of our wonderful educators there has been continuity of learning. I would also like to acknowledge the work our families have done over this time. We have had a lot of communication online and over the phone by all of our families supporting your children learning at home. We are feeling much better now we are all back face to face learning. We are still maintaining our whole school cleaning twice a day and good hygiene practices throughout the day. The Love of Writing Over the first three weeks I have seen some amazing writing from our students. Younger students are supported to write amazing texts through Book Making and our older students through Writers Notebook. I encourage you to ask your child to share their writing with you. You will thoroughly enjoy the amazing ideas, funny stories and interesting illustrations our students develop. Encourage your children to write at home. The love of writing can be supported by writing about something you care about. Some of the most interesting stories I read come from the imaginations of our students. PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Dear Families, What a busy start to the term it has been. The Jungle

We have been working hard to make our mothers feel special this Mother’s Day. We made hand prints from salt dough. First we mixed ingredients together to make the salt dough, then we let the salt dough dry and popped them in the oven so that they hardened. Later we painted the print of our hands. This was lots of fun, and look at these pieces of art. We hope our mums loved it!

Here is my handprint, Five fingers in all,

Outside tiny are short, But the middle is tall.

You will find them on windows, You can find them on a wall, They will make a big mess,

For something so small.

One day I will grow, And leave them no more,

My handprints will be missed, Of that I am sure.

So here is one now, That you can’t wipe away,

My present to you, This Mother’s Day!

The Jungle

Monarch butterfly / life drawing

We all love butterflies for their gorgeous, brightly-coloured wings. Students in The Jungle were fascinated to learn that these beautiful flyers begin life as something completely different. As they grow, they undergo one seriously terrific transformation – a process known as “metamorphosis “. Students were able to observe the whole cycle in The Jungle and drew during visual arts the different stages as a focus on life drawing.

Science News

Science Learning – Keira, Tara, Sarah

In Science Year 1 and 2 students have started the term off by exploring different materials. They will be investigating different objects and what they are made of. Students searched through a range of objects and had to decide whether they were made of wood, plastic, metal, glass or fabric. We then also focused on describing these materials by asking “what is it like?”

At home you could look around your house or focus on toys to see if students are able to identify and explain what different things are made of and why.

Students will be testing a lot of different materials through experiments. We aim to make their Science learning engaging and interesting. We focus on questioning students about their understanding and encourage them to share their ideas. The types of questions we ask are:

What do you notice? What do you smell/hear/taste/feel/see? What does it do? What is happening? What is interesting?

What do you think? What is the same? What is dif-ferent? How does it change? Is there anything unusual? What questions do you have?

What do you think if? What might happen if? What if I changed this?

How can you explore? How are you going to find out? What ideas do you have? What could you try? Which is your best idea? How could you test your idea?

How can you share? How could you share what you saw/heard/tasted/ felt/smelt? How could you draw that? How can you show what you counted? How was this the same as your prediction? How was it differ-ent?

So what? Where might you use this? Who might be interested in this? Why?
