If you are interested in snowshoeing this winter please sign up soon, (preferably at the next meeting), with your full name, telephone number and e-mail, since we are in preparation for the season. If you are on thesnowshoe list from last year but do not wish to participate this year please remove your name from the list. Once the season has begun, we normally goout every two weeks or so.We start with easier routes which become more challenging as the season progresses, so consider a commitment for the whole season to build your fitness gradually.Bill Flynn & Bob Jennejohn Coordinators

DINING GROUP

On Sunday 19th November the Dining Club assembled for their first dinner since the spring. It was hosted by Katy and Colin and the theme for the dinner this time, rather than a country, was simply ‘apples’. As can be seen in the photo Ron was McIntosh while Caroline was Granny Smith. Tom was fumigating Jean’s apple while she munched on it while Peter had been used for bow practice by William Tell. Katy took time off from the kitchen and sadly Shane was unable to attend. Dinner started with apple whisky chicken meatballs followed by butternut squash and apple soup and the main courses of Somerset chicken in cider and pork tenderloin with apple gravy accompa-nied by apple-cran squash, apple cabbage and wild rice with apple and dried cranberry salad, all washed down with copious quantities of apple cider. The dinner was rounded off appropriately with rustic apple tart. We live on to the next dining extravaganza!—Colin James

Guest Speaker -Vicker Weller

Our last month’s guest speaker was Vicki Weller who is the director for the TNFC. She gave a very enthu-siastic talk on how she shows the movie makers what we have in the TNRD that they can use in their movie scenes. She elaborated on the many movies and advertising clips that were filmed in our region.

CLUB SPEAKER - ANNE LLOYDAnne was born in Penticton and raised in Hedley in the Similkameen. Her parents were from Scotland and had five children. Music was a big part of their lives. Her mother was an organist and her father sang in the church choir. The children were very close with their grandmother who, Anne remem-bers, gave them peppermint candies. They would keep busy with an outdoor life: hiking, swimming, and skating.Anne became a teacher and taught primary grades, especially grade one. She married Gordon in 1959 and they now have been married for 60 years. They moved to Ghana for a few years to live and teach. As it is 5 degrees above the equator, the sun would rise daily at 6 a.m. and set at 6 p.m. The average daily temperature was between 23 and 30 degrees with high humidity. Their third son was baptized there. Anne learned to cook Ghanaian food and home schooled her children.Being a teacher, Anne insisted that her audence learn the expression “MEHOOYAA”. Who remembers what it means.

Our numbers for mens golf were down a bit this year principally because of the smoke drifting into Kamloops beginning in early July from wildfires in and around the Ashcroft -Cache Creek area, the southern Cariboo, the Okanagan and the east and west Kootenays. Other events affecting our golfing numbers were medical issues for some of us and the usual time off for summer vacations. On a positive note our golfers were pleased with their participation when they did play and we look forward to next spring. On behalf of Probus I thanked Adam and the staff of Pineridge Golf Course for their cooperation in adjusting T times to accomodate our changing numbers each week and for the excellent quality of their lunch menus. This golf course combines interesting golfing challenges over a variety of terrain providing 18 holes of play easily completed in 3 hours and is close by.Golf will resume in March-April 2018. Every one wishing to play golf is encouraged to sign the Probus golf sheet when its available at our meetings early in the new year. Have a happy winter!Submitted by Bob Hunter—Mens Golf Coordinator.

The men’s cooking group was off to a slow start this year but all eight of us were able to get together at Bob Hunter’s home at the beginning of November. Bob introduced us to meat loaf, potato and yam salad with a sophisticated sauce, all of which challenged our culinary abilities. As usual, the majority of the conversation had little to do with the subject in hand. Despite this, the meal turned out well, helped down with the usual bottle of wine.We will not be meeting again until Thursday, January 4th at John Crowe’s home.—John Crowe

PROBUS CLUB OF MAPLE RIDGE

A number of our members have been asking me about Howard and Ingrid Glossop. They are nowliving in Maple Ridge. They were missing the Kam-loops Probus club and as there was no Probus club inMaple Ridge, they have managed to get severalpeople involved in forming a new club in Maple Ridge.Howard Glossop, John Bale and Theo Rathonyi-Reusz have been having meetings with people who are interested in having a Probus Club for Maple RidgeColleen Flanagan has an article in the Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows News about their efforts. Read at: http://www.mapleridgenews.com/community/proposed-probus-club-for-maple-ridge/

Howard indicated that they had a successful“Information Meeting” in Maple Ridge !Around 60 potential members showed up and 45 signed up to say they were interested. They had to get extra chairs for everyone to get a seat!
